Glenisle, also known as Glen-Isle on the Platte and Glen Isle Resort, is a rustic-style resort hotel built at the turn of the 20th century. The hotel is located just off US Highway 285 in Bailey, Colorado, United States, and has been on the National Register of Historic Places since 1985. The rustic main lodge building's most distinctive feature is a three-story round tower with a conical roof. It is located on the bank of the North Fork of the South Platte River. It was deemed "significant as the last remaining turn-of-the-century resort hotel in the once popular South Platte Canyon west of Denver. It was constructed as a result of the railroad building and promotion that played a significant role in development throughout Colorado in the late 19th century. Real estate promotion and tourist development became an integral part of the expansion of passenger traffic, and the Colorado & Southern invested a significant amount of capital into the Platte Canyon for just such reasons. The Adirondack inspired rustic architecture of Glenisle and its neighboring resorts was a popular theme for turn-of-the-century inns in Colorado and Glenisle remains as one of the few good intact examples of the form."

The Platte Canyon High School hostage crisis was a hostage taking and shooting at Platte Canyon High School in Bailey, Colorado, on September 27, 2006. The gunman, 53-year-old Duane Roger Morrison, took seven female students hostage and sexually assaulted them, later releasing four. When police broke open the classroom's door with explosives, Morrison opened fire with a semi-automatic pistol before shooting hostage Emily Keyes in the head. The other remaining hostages escaped unharmed, and paramedics confirmed that Morrison had committed suicide shortly before police were able to enter the classroom. Keyes was pronounced dead at 4:32 p.m. MDT (23:32 UTC) at Saint Anthony's Hospital in Denver, Colorado after undergoing emergency surgery.

The Estabrook Historic District, southeast of Bailey, Colorado, is a 272-acre (110 ha) historic district which was listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 1980. It was deemedsignificant for its association with the Denver South Park & Pacific Railway and the tourist industry that developed at some points along the line. The District is also significant for its architectural features, notably the excellent examples of the rustic style seen in the Rocky Mountains, and for its association with some of the state's most important pioneers. It is a former community on the North Fork of the South Platte River which has rustic stone and wood buildings and structures, including ice houses, barns and other outbuildings, which was at the Estabrook stop of the Denver South Park & Pacific Railway. It includes a small railroad bridge which is believed to be the only surviving original bridge of that railway. It is entirely privately owned property, although nearly surrounded by the Pike National Forest.The district included ten contributing buildings and a contributing structure on 272 acres (110 ha).

The Kenosha Mountains or Kenosha Mountain are a subrange (or long mountain) of the Front Range located in Park and Jefferson counties of Colorado. Lying within the Pike National Forest, the range extends 36 miles (58 km) from where it meets the Platte River Mountains to the northwest, to Windy Peak to the southeast. This long mountain is bordered by the Platte River Mountains on the north and the Tarryall Mountains on the south.

Windy Peak, elevation 11,970 ft (3,648 m), is a summit in the Kenosha Mountains of central Colorado. The peak is south of Bailey in the Lost Creek Wilderness. It is also home to Outdoor Lab for Jefferson County.

The Fraser Experimental Forest is an outdoor research laboratory to study timber, water, wildlife management, and their integration in the high elevation subalpine coniferous forests. The experimental forest was established in 1937, and encompasses 9,328 hectares (36.02 sq mi). It is situated on the west side of the Continental Divide in north-central Colorado and includes the entire watershed of main Saint Louis Creek, a tributary of the Fraser River.It is managed by the Rocky Mountain Research Station of the United States Forest Service and is located within the Arapaho National Forest. The forest was designated a UNESCO Biosphere Reserve in 1976, and was withdrawn from the UN reserve program as of June 14, 2017 at the request of the U.S. Government.

Pine Junction is a small unincorporated community in central Colorado in the United States. Pine Junction is the first intersection with a traffic light on U.S. Highway 285 in the foothills. At this traffic light, you can turn left on Colorado Rd 126 to go to the historic Town of Pine Grove and continue to State Highway 67 to Deckers and Woodland Park. Pine Junction is situated in the foothills of the Front Range south of Mount Blue Sky, approximately 25 miles (40 km) southwest of Denver along U.S. Highway 285. The community sits astride the Park-Jefferson county line, and is situated at the crest of a hill on the highway, east of where the highway drops from Crow Hill down into the Platte Canyon near Bailey. The community consists of a strip of retail businesses along the highway, as well as nearby houses on either side of highway. It serves partially as a bedroom community for the Denver Metropolitan Area to the northeast. It is also home to a large array of other commercial ventures such as, a hardware store, and a storage rental. Pine Junction is part of Colorado's Bustang network. It is on the Gunnison-Denver Outrider line.
