WILI-FM

WECS (90.1 FM) is a college radio station based in Windham, Connecticut, inside the Communication Building within Goddard Hall on the campus of Eastern Connecticut State University on Windham Street in Willimantic. The station broadcasts on 90.1 MHz with an effective radiated power (ERP) of 430 watts at a height above average terrain (HAAT) of 116 meters (381 ft). WECS began in the 1970s as a turntable mounted in a 3x4' square of plywood which sat atop a work sink in a janitor's closet in an old dormitory. This was not a licensed station. It ran at approximately 10 watts and was a pirate broadcaster. At the time, Eastern Connecticut State University was not yet accredited as a university. In the late 1970s, a movement was afoot to get a legitimate radio station for the communications department. This was orchestrated by former WCBS announcer Prof. John Zatowski. By 1982, test broadcasts had begun, and by 1984, WECS-FM was on air. In the succeeding decades, a number of long-time DJs have come and gone: Joe Standby, Bash, Robbo Retro, Alf ("The Alternative Xperience"), Mark E. Ramone, Beechnut, James 'DJ Ras J' McGurk, Gabriel Silverman and others. DJs who remain include Christine Guarneiri, Dean Farrell, Mike "The Dog" Piercy, Arthur Rovozzo, Tom Goodin, and Art Heriot. Despite the stations relatively minor stature, a good number of its staff have moved on to work in the media industry. At present, WECS is a National Public Radio affiliate and John Zatowski the general manager. In July 2008, WECS moved into its new air studio.

Pomeroy State Park is an undeveloped public recreation area covering 200 acres (81 ha) just south of Willimantic in the town of Lebanon, Connecticut. The state park is a forested area used for hiking and hunting with no entrance, markings, or parking that abuts preserved farmland. It is under the management of the Connecticut Department of Energy and Environmental Protection.

The Willimantic Elks Club is a historic Elks lodge at 198 Pleasant Street in the Willimantic section of Windham, Connecticut. Built in 1925 for a lodge founded in 1914, it is one of the finest examples of Tudor Revival architecture in the region, and has been a major site of social events in the community since. The building was added to the National Register of Historic Places in 2005.

Willimantic Armory is a historic armory building on Pleasant Street in Windham, Connecticut. It served the Connecticut National Guard from 1913 until 1980 when the building was sold to developers who converted the building into apartments.

The Frog Bridge (officially known as the Thread City Crossing) is a bridge located in Willimantic, Connecticut which carries South Street (CT 661) across the Willimantic River. It is known as the Frog Bridge because it has four copper frog sculptures on each end of the bridge, sitting on concrete thread spools. The sculptures were designed and created by artist Leo Jensen of Ivoryton, Connecticut.

The William Jillson Stone House is a historic house museum at 561 Main Street inside Jillson Square Park, in the Willimantic section of Windham, Connecticut. Built in 1825–27, it is a rare local instance of a stone house, built by one of the area's early industrialists. It is now maintained by the Windham Historical Society, and was listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 1971.

The Willimantic Footbridge is a pedestrian bridge in the Willimantic section of Windham, Connecticut. Built in 1906, it extends from Main Street southward, across Riverside Drive, railroad tracks, and the Willimantic River, connecting downtown Willimantic to the residential area south of the river. It is one of a small number of pedestrian bridges built in the early 20th century to survive in the state. It was listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 1979.

The Main Street Historic District encompasses the historic portion of the central business district of Willimantic, in Windham, Connecticut. The district encompasses the commercial business district of Willimantic and is roughly linear along Main Street (Route 66) and Riverside Drive between Church Street and Bridge Street. It was first listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 1982. Its area was increased in 1992 to include the Hall and Bill building on North Street, built in 1889 by one of Willimantic's leading printers.

The Willimantic Freight House and Office is a historic railroad freight facility on Bridge Street in the Willimantic section of Windham, Connecticut. Built in 1870, the freight office, a fine example of Second Empire architecture, is now the only surviving element of the city's 19th-century railroad buildings; the freight house has been demolished. The buildings were listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 1982 as an important reminder of the city's importance as a major railroad junction in eastern Connecticut.

Willimantic is a former intercity rail station located in Willimantic, Connecticut. Amtrak service to Willimantic began in 1991 with the Montrealer; it was closed in 1995 when the service was replaced by the Vermonter and no longer ran through Willimantic. The station consisted of an illuminated concrete platform alongside a parking lot (the platform remains intact as of 2024). The former station site is about one mile east of the Connecticut Eastern Railroad Museum, which was established the in 1995, the same year the station closed. Amtrak schedules would refer to the stop as "Willimantic, CT (Storrs)", since this was the closest railroad station to the University of Connecticut Storrs Campus (located approximately 7 miles north of Willimantic).

The Windham Textile and History Museum is a museum in Willimantic, Connecticut, in the New England region of the United States. It is currently located in Main St.

Jillson Square Park is park located in Willimantic, Connecticut. It holds the William Jillson Stone House on its area, and is home to the Willimantic Carnival. The park was created after the Windham Historical Society bought the property in 1972, and gave the area to the Town of Windham Recreation Department for park development. The park was the former land of William Jillson, the creator of the Jillson Mills nearby. The Air Line Trail starts less than 200 feet (61 m) away from here.
