Winston-Salem is a city in and the county seat of Forsyth County, North Carolina, United States. In the 2020 census, the population was 249,545, making it the second-largest municipality in the Piedmont Triad region, the fifth-most populous city in North Carolina, and the 90th-most populous city in the United States. Winston-Salem is home to the tallest office building in the region, 100 North Main Street, formerly known as the Wachovia Building and now known locally as the Wells Fargo Center. In 2003, the Greensboro–Winston-Salem–High Point, NC Metropolitan Statistical Area was redefined by the OMB and separated into the two major metropolitan areas of Winston-Salem and Greensboro-High Point. The population of the Winston-Salem, NC Metropolitan Statistical Area in 2020 was 675,966. The metropolitan area covers over 2,000 square miles and spans the five counties of Forsyth, Davidson, Stokes, Davie, and Yadkin. Winston-Salem is called the "Twin City" for its dual heritage, and the "Camel City" as a reference to the city's historic involvement in the tobacco industry related to locally based R. J. Reynolds' Camel cigarettes. Many natives of the city and North Carolina refer to the city as "Winston" in informal speech. Winston-Salem is also home to six colleges and institutions, most notably Wake Forest University, Winston-Salem State University, and the University of North Carolina School of the Arts. In 2021, the city ranked 46th out of 150 cities on the "Best Places to Live" list from U.S. News & World Report. In April 2021, a study from Lendingtree's Magnify Money blog ranked Winston-Salem the second-best tech market for women.

Richard J. Reynolds High School now the Richard J. Reynolds Magnet School for the Visual and Performing Arts (often simply R. J. Reynolds High School or Reynolds) is a high school in the Winston-Salem/Forsyth County Schools located in Winston-Salem, North Carolina. Named for R. J. Reynolds, the founder of the R. J. Reynolds Tobacco Company, the school opened in 1923. The school colors are Old Gold and Black, and the school's mascot is a demon.

Winston Township is one of fifteen townships in Forsyth County, North Carolina, United States. The township had a population of 229,617, according to the 2010 census.Geographically, Winston Township occupies 133.69 square miles (346.3 km2) in central Forsyth County. Winston Township is coextensive with the city of Winston-Salem and subsequently, township boundaries expand with every annexation by the city. Consequently, much of the townships of Old Town, Broadbay, South Fork, Middle Fork and smaller portions of others have been consumed by Winston in recent years.

The R. J. Reynolds Memorial Auditorium, located in Winston-Salem, NC, was built 1919–1924 under the direction of architect Charles Barton Keen (designer of the R. J. Reynolds estate, Reynolda House). Keen also designed the adjacent Richard J. Reynolds High School. Both buildings are listed on the National Register of Historic Places. The Auditorium and adjacent school sit on a tract of land formerly known as "Silver Hill." The 28-acre (110,000 m2) tract of land now encompasses the Auditorium, the school, Hanes Park (named after the founder of Hanes Clothing Company and then-mayor James G. Hanes), the Calvin H. Wiley Middle School and the Winston-Salem Central YMCA. The Auditorium is now operated jointly by the Administration of the Richard J. Reynolds High School and the Winston-Salem/Forsyth County Schools. An auditorium manager is hired to take care of the day-to-day operations of the building and scheduling of performances and events. The Auditorium is one of the oldest and largest performing arts centers in the City of Winston-Salem. The building can comfortably seat 1898 people, with 857 seats on the main Orchestra level and 1,041 seats located on the Mezzanine/Balcony area.

West End Historic District is a national historic district located at Winston-Salem, Forsyth County, North Carolina. The district encompasses 508 contributing buildings and 7 contributing structures, in a predominantly residential section of Winston-Salem. It was a planned picturesque streetcar suburb developed at the turn of the 20th century. The buildings date from about 1887 to 1930, and include notable examples of Classical Revival, Colonial Revival, Queen Anne, and Bungalow / American Craftsman style architecture. Located in the district are the separately listed H. D. Poindexter Houses and Zevely House. Other notable buildings include the St. Paul's Episcopal Church (1928-1929) designed by Ralph Adams Cram, Augsburg Lutheran Church (1926), Friends Meeting House (1927), the First Church of Christ, Scientist (1924), and Joyner's West End Grocery.It was listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 1986.

H. D. Poindexter Houses are a set of historic homes located at Winston-Salem, Forsyth County, North Carolina. A large house was built between 1892 and 1894, and is a two-story, frame dwelling in the Queen Anne style. It features verandahs, balconies, ornamental shingles, and large medieval-like chimneys. Associated with the large house is a small Victorian cottage built around 1874. Both dwellings were built by Henry Dalton Poindexter, a prominent merchant. They were moved to their present location in December 1977.It was listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 1979. It is located in the West End Historic District.

John W. Paisley Magnet School is a Middle school/High school located in Winston-Salem, North Carolina. It is home to the International Baccalaureate Middle Years program for students in grades six through ten. Paisley is a part of the Winston-Salem/Forsyth County Schools system. In 2007, Paisley was recognized as a Magnet School of excellence; one of five in North Carolina and only fifty in the United States. Paisley has been an accredited IB/MYP school since 2004. Marion Pittman-Couch was principal during Paisley's process to become recognized by the IBO and retired in 2007. Paisley Magnet School is currently searching for a new principal. Paisley houses more than 800 students from Forsyth County and the region. Students must complete a magnet school application for admission to Paisley if they are not a resident in Paisley's home school zone. The eleventh and twelfth grade IB Diploma Programme is housed at Parkland High School. The IB Primary Years Programme begins at Speas Elementary School for grades K–5.

Holly Avenue Historic District is a national historic district located at Winston-Salem, Forsyth County, North Carolina. The district encompasses 115 contributing buildings and 1 contributing site in a predominantly residential section of Winston-Salem. The buildings date between about 1885 and 1952, and include single family dwellings and apartment building. The include examples of late-19th and early-20th popular architectural styles including the Queen Anne and Italianate style. Notable buildings include the Henry Case House (c. 1885), James Jessup House (c. 1889), Henry Foltz bam (1906), Calvary Moravian Church (1923), T. R. Brann's store (c. 1921), and Green Front Grocery (c. 1937).It was listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 2002.

The district encompasses 62 contributing buildings and 1 contributing object in a historically African-American residential section of Winston-Salem. The buildings date from about 1925 to 1951, and include notable examples of Colonial Revival and Bungalow / American Craftsman style architecture.It was listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 2004, with a boundary decrease in 2014.
