Hampton–Ellis Farm, also known as William Beanis Hampton Farm and Jonah Ellis Farm, is a historic home and tobacco farm located near Bahama, Durham County, North Carolina. The farmhouse was built about 1900, as a one-story, three-bay, center hall plan dwelling. It was enlarged about 1922, with the addition of a kitchen ell, The house features a one-story, hip-roofed front porch. Contributing outbuildings were include the wood shed, cannery, smokehouse, feed house, tenant house, tenant smokehouse, tenant woodshed, pack house, ordering/stripping house, and four tobacco barns. With the exception of the ordering/stripping house and three of the tobacco barns, all the outbuildings were built about 1922.It was listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 2011.

Lake Michie is a reservoir in central North Carolina, within the Neuse River watershed. The lake is located in northern Durham County near the town of Bahama. Fed principally by the Flat River, Lake Michie is the primary reservoir for the city of Durham. The reservoir dam was completed in 1926.In addition to retaining drinking water for the city, the concrete and earthwork dam, built between 1924 and 1926, supplied hydroelectric power to Durham until 1960, when the generators were removed.

Marcus Tilley House, also known as the Roscoe Tilley House, is a historic home located at Bahama, Durham County, North Carolina. It was built about 1880, and is a two-story, frame I-house built over an original 1+1⁄2-story log dwelling. Also on the property is a contributing log smokehouse.It was listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 2000.

Mangum Township is one of six townships in Durham County, North Carolina, United States. The township had a population of 5,821 according to the 2000 census. Geographically, Mangum Township occupies 71.57 square miles (185.4 km2) in northern Durham County. The township contains small portions of the city of Durham, as well as the unincorporated communities of Bahama and Rougemont. It includes a portion of the Federal Bureau of Prisons Federal Correctional Complex, Butner.

Camp Butner was a United States Army installation in Butner, North Carolina during World War II. It was named after Army general and North Carolina native Henry W. Butner. Part of it was used as a POW camp for German prisoners of war in the United States and this site eventually became the Federal Correctional Complex, Butner. The camp site was chosen in the late summer of 1941 to have a major training area, built with construction starting in January 1942. In just 6 short months, over 1,700 buildings were constructed. There were enough beds in the enlisted barracks alone to accommodate over 35,000 soldiers. Several major US Army divisions used the camp as a staging area during the war, to assemble and organize prior to being deployed to both the European and Pacific theaters. Divisions like the 35th Infantry Division, 78th Infantry Division, and 89th Infantry Division came to Camp Butner prior to heading to Europe. After the war, the camp was used as a major facility for the demobilization and inactivation of Army units returning from combat. Among the units inactivated at the camp were the 3d Infantry Regiment and the 4th Infantry Division. The Camp was also the location of the Battalion Surgeon's Assistant school and had a convalescent hospital for wounded troops that operated much like Walter Reed does today.

George Poland House is a historic home located near Bahama, Durham County, North Carolina. It was designed by architect George Matsumoto and built in 1956 in the International Style. It was originally located at 3929 Arrow Drive in Raleigh, North Carolina and moved to its present location in 2001. It is a rectangular, one-story, flat-roofed dwelling on a full basement. The house features cantilevered floor and ceiling beams, a front entry platform, a full-facade covered rear porch, and an open elevated wraparound walkway.It was listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 2004.

Horton Grove was an area of houses for enslaved African-Americans at the 30,000-acre (120 km2) Bennehan-Cameron plantation complex, which included Stagville Plantation in the northeastern part of Durham County, North Carolina. The slaves who lived at Horton Grove were held by the influential Bennehan and Cameron families. In 1860, 900 total slaves were held on the complex. The several structures still standing at Horton Grove are the only two-story slave residences remaining in North Carolina.The quarters at Horton Grove, which were constructed by slave craftsmen in the early 1850s, were the culmination of decades of gradual improvements at the plantation complex. The dwellings at Horton Grove represented the pinnacle of slave house development and include shuttered windows, multiple stories, brick chimneys, and raised stone foundations.These structures were occupied continuously until as late as the 1970s. After the American Civil War, many of the former slaves stayed on the property as sharecroppers and continued to live in these dwellings. Because of its historic and architectural significance, Horton Grove was listed in 1978 on the National Register of Historic Places. Archaeological finds on the site have provided insight into continuing practices of African heritage at Stagville, including the presence of divining rods and communal cooking practices.

The Little River Reservoir is located in Durham, North Carolina, United States, and is one of the main sources of drinking water for the town. The reservoir was created by a dam completed in 1988. It hosts a city park that offers fishing facilities including boat, canoe, and kayak rentals, along with picnic tables and restrooms. Private boats are not permitted on the reservoir. Current and historic reservoir water levels can be found below.In cooperation with Raleigh, Wake Forest, Wendell, and Zebulon in North Carolina, Wake County NC is also planning a reservoir on the Little River. The project has been postponed for environmental study.

The Federal Medical Center, Butner (FMC Butner), is a United States federal prison opened in 1995 in North Carolina for male inmates of all security levels who have special health needs. It is part of the Butner Federal Correctional Complex and is operated by the Federal Bureau of Prisons, a division of the United States Department of Justice. An adjacent satellite prison camp houses minimum-security male inmates. It is located in Durham County, North Carolina, near Butner.FMC Butner is located near the Research Triangle area of Durham, Raleigh, and Chapel Hill.

Little River High School is a historic school located on Route 501 southwest of Bahama in Durham County, North Carolina .Built in 1939, it is listed on the National Register of Historic Places.

The Federal Correctional Complex, Butner (FCC Butner) is a United States federal prison complex for men near Butner, North Carolina. It is operated by the Federal Bureau of Prisons, a division of the United States Department of Justice. FCC Butner is about 25 miles (40 km) northwest of Raleigh, the state capital. It includes the Bureau's largest medical complex, which operates a drug treatment program and specializes in oncology and behavioral science. Among its inmates was Bernie Madoff, who was convicted for perpetrating the largest Ponzi scheme in history. He died at the prison in April 2021.The complex consists of four facilities: Federal Correctional Institution, Butner Low (FCI Butner Low): a low-security facility, opened in 1995. Federal Correctional Institution, Butner Medium I (FCI Butner Medium I): a medium-security facility, opened in 1976 Federal Correctional Institution, Butner Medium II (FCI Butner Medium II): a medium-security facility, opened in 2006 Federal Medical Center, Butner (FMC Butner): a facility which houses inmates of all security levels with health issues, opened in 1995.The complex lies in an unincorporated area on the county line between Durham County to the west and Granville County to the east. On the Durham County side, the portion of the prison is in Mangum Township, while on the Granville County side it is in Dutchville Township.
