Cathedral Square is a precinct in the central business district of Perth, Western Australia, bounded by Hay Street to the north, Pier Street to the east, St Georges Terrace to the south, and Barrack Street to the west. Located within the Cathedral Square precinct is the eponymous St George's Cathedral, Cadogan Song School, The Deanery, Burt Memorial Hall, Church House (containing the Anglican Diocese of Perth), City of Perth Library, the Perth Town Hall, the State Administrative Tribunal and the Public Trustee Building. The State Buildings are located on the south west corner of the square, which include the COMO The Treasury hotel, restaurants, bars and retail. Behind these sits the David Malcolm Justice Centre, a 33-storey skyscraper containing civil courtrooms for the Supreme Court of Western Australia and offices for the Department of Treasury and the Department of Justice. A number of buildings within the precinct, including the City of Perth Library, Church House, the redevelopment of the State Buildings and the David Malcolm Justice Centre were designed by Perth-firm Kerry Hill Architects. The precinct includes the site of Perth's 'Point Zero', the marker from which all distances to and from Perth are measured worldwide.Earlier names for the block included simply the names of Barrack Street and Pier Street, Cathedral and Treasury precinct and more recently Cathedral Precinct. The newer name of Cathedral Square is used by the Anglican Cathedral administration, as well the promoters of the newer and heritage buildings within the area.

The Criterion Hotel, formerly the Regatta Hotel, is a hotel in Perth, Western Australia. It is the only remaining Art Deco hotel in the Perth central business district.

Cathedral Avenue is a short lane situated in Perth between St Georges Terrace and Hay Street east of Barrack Street within the Cathedral Square precinct. Sometimes it was shown as St. George's Avenue. Cathedral Avenue operates as an access route to both the Treasury Buildings and to St George's Cathedral for formal functions.

St George's Cathedral is the principal Anglican church in the city of Perth, Western Australia, and the mother-church of the Anglican Diocese of Perth. It is located on St Georges Terrace in the centre of the city. On 26 June 2001 the cathedral was listed on the Western Australia Heritage Register with the following statement of significance: The cathedral is a fine example of Victorian Academic Gothic architecture, designed by noted Australian architect Edmund Blacket; occupying a strategic position at the corner of Saint Georges Terrace and Cathedral Avenue, the cathedral is a major element within the Central Government Precinct, and makes a major contribution to the streetscape of central Perth; as the cathedral of the See of the Anglican Archbishop of Perth, the place is held in high regard by the members of the Anglican Church and the general community; and, the building is closely associated with the establishment and growth of the State through its role as the premier place of worship for the Crown.

The Perth Town Hall, situated on the corner of Hay and Barrack streets in Perth, Western Australia, is the only town hall built by convicts in Australia. Upon completion it was the tallest structure in Perth.

The Anglican Diocese of Perth is one of the 23 dioceses of the Anglican Church of Australia. The constitution of the Diocese of Perth was passed and adopted in 1872 at the first synod held in Western Australia. In 1914, the Province of Western Australia was created and the diocesan bishop of Perth became ex officio metropolitan bishop of the new province and therefore also an archbishop. The diocese incorporates the southern part of the state of Western Australia and includes the Christmas and Cocos Islands. The other dioceses in the Anglican Province of Western Australia are the Diocese of Bunbury and the Diocese of North West Australia.

The Perth Prohibited Area was an area of the metropolitan area in Perth, Western Australia that Aboriginal people were not permitted to enter without a permit. The prohibition was in force from 1927 to 1954, and covered approximately 13 square kilometres (5 sq mi) wholly within the boundaries of the City of Perth. The ban was instigated by A. O. Neville, the protector of Aborigines, and proclaimed under the Aborigines Act 1905 (WA) in 1927. Aboriginal people working in the city had to leave by 6 pm or face the threat of arrest and a fine, or in some cases a custodial sentence. The edict was actively enforced, with the records of the Central Police Office showing 78 Indigenous people charged from July 1949 to February 1950. The historian Stephen Kinnane has suggested that Neville did not like the fact that Aboriginals were beating white Australians at competitive events held in White City.

The Swan River Mechanics' Institute was the Swan River Colony's first cultural centre, established on 21 January 1851. In time it was to house an extensive and well-used subscription library and a natural history collection, including botanical, zoological and mineral specimens. A new building replaced the old in 1899, and in 1909 the institute was renamed Perth Literary Institute. In 1957 the institute became the City of Perth Library, which moved to another building in 1963. The original building, which was located on the south-west corner of Pier and Hay Streets in Perth, was demolished sometime in the 1970s.

Burt Memorial Hall is a hall located on the southern side of Cathedral Square on St Georges Terrace, in Perth, Western Australia. Septimus and Louisa Burt gifted it to the Anglican Church in Perth, in memory of their sons who had lost their lives in World War I, Theodore in 1917, and Francis in 1918.The site was formerly the location of an old bungalow building used as a military officers quarters before becoming a church office.The foundation stone was laid on 26 October 1917 by Sir John Forrest, and the hall was opened on 12 June 1918 by Lieutenant Governor Sir Edward Albert Stone. The hall was designed by George Herbert Parry and built by C. W. Arnott.In 1922, in memory of Septimus Burt, a stained glass window was placed in the hall.The hall was utilised for a number of activities, including proselytising for secession in the 1930s. It was also used as a venue for exhibitions and events in the 1930s, and during the Second World War.The hall was renovated in the late 1930s, with reopening celebrated in 1939. Further renovations occurred in 2010, with a 2014 completion, including a re-roofing.

The David Malcolm Justice Centre is a 33-storey, 149-metre (489 ft) tall skyscraper on Barrack Street in Perth, Western Australia. The building is named after David Malcolm, a former chief justice of Western Australia, and houses civil courtrooms for the Supreme Court of Western Australia as well as office space for the Department of Treasury and the Department of Justice.

The Playhouse Theatre in central Perth, Western Australia was purpose-built for live theatre in the 1950s and remained one of the city's principal venues for performing arts for over half a century until replaced by the State Theatre Centre of Western Australia in January 2011. It was demolished in October 2012 as part of a redevelopment of Cathedral Square.

Bon Marché Arcade, also known as Bon Marché Buildings, is a heritage-listed building in Perth, Western Australia], located at 74–84 Barrack Street in the Perth central business district. It is three and four storeys tall, built in 1901 from brick in the Federation Free Classical architectural style, with a tin roof. Designed by architect H. J. Prockter, it was a prominent feature in Barrack Street when constructed, being taller than the one or two story buildings surrounding it.
