Glenn Square

Mountain View is a neighborhood in northeast Anchorage, Alaska, with approximately 7,300 residents. Mountain View is one of the most diverse neighborhoods in the United States. It is between the Glenn Highway and Elmendorf Air Force Base, west of McCarrey Street and east of Post Road. It is a working-class neighborhood, with a median household income of approximately $51,000 and a poverty rate of approximately 26%.

Snowzilla is a giant snowman which has been erected each pre-Christmas season since 2005 in the front yard of private resident Billy Powers' home in Anchorage, Alaska. Keeping good on a promise to return again some day, Snowzilla reappeared in snowy and cold December 2023.

The Anchorage Unitarian Universalist Fellowship is an Alaska-based congregation within the Unitarian Universalist Association. It was founded in 1955. The congregation made headlines in 2006 for its “payment in lieu of taxes” donations to the Anchorage city government. The congregation voluntarily assessed itself for property taxes value; as a church, it is exempt from paying property taxes. The congregation stated that while it believed in the separation of church and state, it also believed in paying its fair share for the upkeep of city services including public safety and road maintenance.On a national level, the fellowship has also been active in issues ranging from support of the Employment Non-Discrimination Act to opposition to the use of torture by U.S. agents in the War on Terror.

Bettye Davis East Anchorage High School (BDEAHS) is a public high school which serves grades 9–12 in Anchorage, Alaska, United States. It is part of the Anchorage School District. The current principal is Ron Brown. East's mascot is the Thunderbird, and the school colors are red and blue. With an enrollment of 1,765 students as of the 2019–2020 school year, East High School is the second largest school in Alaska, after West Anchorage High School, which enrolled 1,772 students in the same school year. In October 2020, it was decided by the Anchorage School District Board to rename East Anchorage High School as Bettye Davis East Anchorage High School after the late Bettye Davis.

Goose Lake is a small lake in Anchorage in the U.S. state of Alaska, located near the University of Alaska Anchorage, 1.2 miles (1.9 km) south-east of confluence of North and South Forks Chester Creek, and 2.8 miles (4.5 km) south-east of Anchorage, Cook Inlet Low. It is a popular swimming location in summer, with one of two municipal beaches, and is connected to the city's extensive trail system. It is a kettle lake.

The Joint Task Force Alaska (JTF-AK), headquartered at Joint Base Elmendorf-Richardson in Alaska is a multi-service command composed of approximately 80 soldiers, sailors, airmen, coast guardsmen and civilian specialists. The task force is a homeland defense component of U.S. Northern Command that coordinates the land defense of Alaska and also coordinates military assistance to civil authorities. The JTF-AK's goals are stated as "detect, deter, prevent and defeat terrorist threats within the Alaskan joint area of operations". The task force also states that is conducts civil support as directed. JTF-AK plans and integrates the full spectrum of DoD support to homeland defense and civil support to lead federal agencies, such as the Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA). Prevention, crisis response and consequence management are capabilities included within the spectrum of support. In coordination with other federal, state and local agencies, JTF-AK constantly evaluates events and locations throughout Alaska for their potential vulnerability as targets for aggression, such as terrorism. JTF-AK provides situational awareness to military commands and civilian agencies throughout the state of Alaska and the continental U.S. to aid in homeland security awareness and planning. JTF-AK's civil support mission includes domestic disaster relief operations that occur during fires, hurricanes, floods and earthquakes. Support also includes managing the consequences of a terrorist event employing a weapon of mass destruction. The task force provides assistance to a lead federal agency when tasked by the DoD. Per the Posse Comitatus Act, military forces can provide civil support in order to save lives, prevent injuries and provide temporary critical life support, but cannot become directly involved in law enforcement. The U.S. military has a long history of providing assistance to civil authorities during emergencies and other instances of national concern. An emergency must exceed the management capabilities of local, state and federal agencies before JTF-AK becomes involved. In most cases, support will be limited, localized and specific. When the scope if the disaster is reduced to the point that the lead federal agency can again assume full control and management without military assistance, JTF-AK will exit, leaving the on-scene experts to finish the job. On February 11, 2002, the Chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff directed USNORTHCOM to establish and USPACOM to source JTF-AK.

Merrill Field (IATA: MRI, ICAO: PAMR, FAA LID: MRI) is a public-use general aviation airport located one mile (1.6 km) east of downtown Anchorage in the U.S. state of Alaska. The airport is owned by Municipality of Anchorage. It opened in 1930 as Anchorage Aviation Field and was renamed in honor of Alaska aviation pioneer Russel Merrill.

The UAA/APU Consortium Library (Consortium Library) is a joint library serving the University of Alaska Anchorage and Alaska Pacific University, established in 1973 and refurbished in 2004. According to self-reported statistics from 2016, the library has approximately 728,000 volumes on site and averages 12,000 visitors per week during the academic year. The library has the furthest north permanent Foucault pendulum in North America.The library houses special collections, such as the Alaska Resources Library and Information Services (commonly known as ARLIS) and a large archive dedicated to preserving Alaskan history and the history of the Pacific Northwest. In 2020, the Archives and Special Collections won national recognition when awarded the John Sessions Memorial Award from the American Library Association for its creation of consolidated access to documents relating to labor. The archives also retain materials related to celebrations of historical events in Alaska, such as the centennial celebration of the naming of Mt. McKinley (now known as Denali).The architect of the original building was CCC/HOK Architects and Planners of Anchorage.

The Temnac P-38G Lightning is a historic military aircraft, now on display at Joint Base Elmendorf–Richardson. It is a Lockheed P-38 Lightning, military serial number 42-13400, which entered service in the United States Army Air Forces at what was then known as Elmendorf Field in 1942, during World War II, and was assigned to the 54th Fighter Squadron. In January 1945 it was taken out on a training mission over the western Aleutian Islands by 2d Lt. Robert Nesmith. While flying low over the Temnac River valley on Attu Island, Nesmith experienced fluctuations in one of the engines, and was forced to put the aircraft down. He crash-landed the aircraft in the valley without injury to himself.The aircraft was abandoned at the crash site, the Air Force stripping it of salvageable materials. The hulk remained in situ for many years, and was listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 1979. The hulk was recovered in 1999 by Air Force veterans and brought to Elmendorf AFB, where it underwent restoration to correct the ravages of weather and damage done by the original salvage operation. It was placed on display at Elmendorf in 2000.

Russian Jack Springs Park is a public park located in Anchorage, Alaska, managed by the Municipality of Anchorage. The park is named for Jacob "Russian Jack" Marunenko. The park comprises two quarter-sections, minus road rights-of-way, covering approximately 300 acres (120 ha). DeBarr Road, a major east–west arterial road in Anchorage, bisects the park. The land for the park was transferred to the municipality of Anchorage by the Bureau of Land Management in 1948 and it was initially used as a minimum security prison farm.It was the site of four murders by Charles L. Meach in 1982. Three years later, three elderly people were murdered by a teenaged couple in a secluded residential neighborhood approximately 250 feet (76 m) south of the park's border.

The Atwood Campus Center is the student center of Alaska Pacific University in Anchorage, Alaska. It is a two-story square building 113 feet (34 m) on each side, elevated on a podium extending ten or more feet to each side. It is flanked by two residence halls, which, although also 25 feet (7.6 m) in height, have three stories. This complex was designed by Edward Durell Stone and built in 1966, when the school was known as Alaska Methodist University. This complex has been listed on the National Register of Historic Places for its significance as the site of a major 1971 conference of more than 600 Alaska Native representatives, at which they formally accepted the Alaska Native Claims Settlement Act, landmark legislation which fundamentally altered the handling of land ownership and use in the state, particularly with respect to native title, which had long clouded many real estate transfers.The center is effectively managed by the student population, providing spaces for meeting and relaxation, as well as a kitchen and dining area, and offices for a variety of student services. The residence halls continue to be used as student housing: the south hall houses incoming freshmen, while the north hall houses upperclass students in suites.

The Arctic Thunder Air Show is an air show and open house event held biennially at Joint Base Elmendorf-Richardson, Anchorage, Alaska since 1990. It is a free event open to the general public and one of the largest public events in Alaska. The 2010 show was marred by a tragedy due to a C-17 transport plane crash just a few days before the event, but it still managed to draw a crowd estimated at least 100,000. In addition to performances by military teams such as the Thunderbirds and the Blue Angels, the show also features appearances by civilian aerial performers.
