Huyton railway station

Huyton with Roby Urban District was a local government district in Lancashire, England from 1894 to 1974. It consisted of the civil parish of Huyton with Roby which comprised the settlements of Huyton and Roby. It replaced the Huyton with Roby urban sanitary district. In 1974 it was abolished and its former area was transferred to Merseyside, to be combined with Kirkby Urban District, Prescot Urban District, parts of Whiston Rural District and parts of West Lancashire Rural District to form the present-day Metropolitan Borough of Knowsley.

It was part of the hundred of West Derby, an ancient subdivision of Lancashire, covering the southwest of the county.

Roby is a village in the Metropolitan Borough of Knowsley, Merseyside, England. It was previously administratively linked with its neighbour Huyton by the Huyton-with-Roby civil parish and Huyton with Roby Urban District. Like Huyton, Roby is effectively a dormitory village or suburb of the neighbouring City of Liverpool. At the 2001 Census, the population of Roby was 9,353, (4,511 males, 4,842 females). reducing to 7,254 at the 2011 Census. Roby is the location of the sixth form centre of Knowsley Community College.

Huyton Hill Preparatory School was a school for boys ages 8 to 13 focused on preparation for entering a Public School, open from 1926 to 1969. The school is one of several that were evacuated from cities in England at the outbreak of World War II to escape the risk of German bombs. It was known for a progressive, liberal approach to discipline.

The Knowsley Heights fire occurred in 1991 at the 11-story Knowsley Heights tower block in Huyton, Merseyside. No-one was injured in the fire.

Lord Derby Academy is a coeducational secondary school. It has an academy status located in Huyton in the English county of Merseyside.Previously known as Knowsley Hey High School, in 2009 the school was merged with Bowring Comprehensive School to form Huyton Sports and Arts Centre for Learning on the site of Knowsley Hey. The school was completely rebuilt under the Building Schools for the Future programme. In February 2014 the school converted to academy status and was renamed Lord Derby Academy. The school is part of The Dean Trust which also includes Ashton-on-Mersey School in Sale as well as Broadoak School and Forest Gate Academy. In 2019 Lord Derby Academy was found to be "Requires Improvement" by Ofsted. They disagreed with this, which led to the delayed publication of the Ofsted Report. The report details how the leaders bear an over generous view of the school and how inadequate progress is being made by the pupils, at fault of the teachers.

Roby railway station serves the village of Roby, Merseyside, England. It is located 5 miles (8.0 km) east of Liverpool Lime Street on the former Liverpool and Manchester Railway, and 1⁄2 mile (800 m) west of Huyton. It is operated by Northern Trains, as part of Merseyrail's electrified City Line to Manchester and Wigan North Western.

St Thomas Becket Catholic High School was a Roman Catholic secondary school located in the Huyton area of Liverpool. In its final year, the school had only 90 pupils and 32 members of staff. It closed in July 2008.

Bowring Park is a public park in the Metropolitan Borough of Knowsley, near Liverpool, England. It is the oldest public park in Knowsley and includes the first municipal golf course in England (established 1913). It was opened in 1907 and was a gift of Liverpool's first Lord Mayor William Benjamin Bowring (later first baronet) in 1906 of the Roby Hall Estate. He was the senior partner in a shipping firm. His wife Isabel Maclean Bowring (née Jarvis) of Saint John, New Brunswick, was sympathetic to the suffering and needy among the poor of Liverpool. Originally 100 acres (0.40 km2) in size, it lost some to the M62 motorway.

According to Butt Huyton Quarry railway station opened in 1830 as part of the Liverpool and Manchester Railway, but Holt suggests it was originally known as the "station at the bottom of Whiston Incline" being renamed Huyton Quarry sometime after 1838. Either way it was one of the earliest passenger railway stations in the world. The station closed on 15 September 1958.In 2014, an electrical switching site was constructed in the vicinity as part of the Manchester - Liverpool (via Earlestown) section of the NW electrification schemes.
