Markinch railway station

Kingdom FM is an Independent Local Radio station serving Fife. It is owned and operated by DC Thomson Media and broadcasts from studios at Elizabeth House in Kirkcaldy. The station broadcasts on five FM frequencies: 95.2 (Dunfermline and West Fife), 96.1 (Glenrothes, Central and East Fife), 96.6 (Kirkcaldy), 105.4 (St Andrews and 106.3 FM (the East Neuk). On 29 October 2019 it also began broadcasting on DAB via the Central Scotland MUX. As of June 2023, the station broadcasts to a weekly audience of 57,000 listeners, according to RAJAR.

Markinch (, (Scottish Gaelic: Marc Innis) is both a village and a parish in the heart of Fife, Scotland. According to an estimate taken in 2008, the village has a population of 2,420. The civil parish had a population of 16,530 (in 2011). Markinch is east of Fife's administrative centre, Glenrothes and preceded Cupar as Fife's place of warranty and justice prior to the 13th century.

Coaltown of Balgonie is a village of 1,059 people (2011 census) in south central Fife. It is located on the B9130 road, next to the new town of Glenrothes. Coaltown has a premier shop, a pub, the Balgonie Arms, a bowling green, Balgonie Bowling Club, a village hall, the Victoria Hall, an undertakers, and a garage, Balgonie Motors. There is a playpark for children beside the primary school. Opposite the school is the football pitch for local team, Balgonie Scotia AFC.

Balbirnie House is an early 19th-century country house in Glenrothes, in central Fife, Scotland. The present house was completed in 1817 as a rebuild of an 18th-century building, itself a replacement for a 17th-century dwelling. The home of the Balfour family from 1640, the house was sold in 1969 and opened as a hotel in 1990. The grounds now comprise a large public park and a golf course. The house is protected as a category A listed building, while the grounds are included in the Inventory of Gardens and Designed Landscapes in Scotland.

Balgonie Castle is located on the south bank of the River Leven near Milton of Balgonie, 3.5 kilometres (2.2 mi) east of Glenrothes, Fife, Scotland. The castle keep dates from the 14th century, and the remaining structures were added piecemeal until the 18th century. The keep has been recently restored, although other parts of the castle are roofless ruins. Balgonie, excepting the tower which is used for residential purposes, is a Scheduled Ancient Monument. This castle is the subject for several ghostlore stories, including a green lady story.

The River Leven (Scottish Gaelic: Lìobhann / Abhainn Lìobhann) is a river in Fife, Scotland. It flows from Loch Leven into the Firth of Forth at the town of Leven. The river is home to brown trout and hosts a run of sea trout and atlantic salmon. The estuary has bass and mullet. In previous centuries its water was used to power linen mills on its banks, particularly near Markinch, as well as three paper mills: Smith Anderson in Leslie, and Tullis Russell and John Dixon of Markinch. The River Ore, Fife is a tributary of the River Leven, joining it at 56.190492°N 3.071665°W / 56.190492; -3.071665.

Balbirnie Stone Circle is an archaeological site, a stone circle on the north-eastern edge of Glenrothes, in Fife, Scotland. The site was in use from the late Neolithic period to the late second millennium BC.The prehistoric ceremonial complex of Balfarg is nearby; the scheduling for Balfarg states that "the Balfarg complex, together with the nearby stone circle at Balbirnie and other sites in their vicinity, form one of the most important groups of monuments of Neolithic and Bronze Age date in eastern Scotland."

Kennoway Star Hearts Football Club are a football club from the village of Star near Kennoway in Fife, Scotland. Currently competing in the East of Scotland League Second Division, the club play their home games at Treaton Park.

Star, also known as Star of Markinch (and historically as Star of Brunton or Star of Dalginch)), is a small village in Fife, Scotland. The name of Star derives from the causeway (stair) over the Star Moss, a raised bog to the northwest of the village which drains out to land to the north of the village. East of the village are two reservoirs, taking advantage of the already wet conditions. The boggy conditions attract thousands of overwintering greylag geese. Skeins of them can be seen flying over the village from October until early May. Both the Star Moss and the nearby Carriston Reservoir are sites of special scientific interest.

Auchmuty School is a state secondary school in the town of Glenrothes in the Fife council area of Scotland. Opened in 1957, it was the first school for secondary education in the area. It quickly outgrew the original building and additions were added in about 1970. The planning and construction of a completely new Auchmuty High School, beside the old one, began in 2011, with doors opening to pupils in 2013. With the old buildings remaining in use until the new ones were completed, the construction began on the playing fields beside the A92 and Queensway roundabout. After completion, the old buildings were gradually demolished and new playing fields were put in place, finishing in 2014. Auchmuty's sporting facilities now include 4 floodlit tennis courts, a multipurpose cage including outdoor basketball hoops, 3 full size grass pitches and an Astro turf floodlit football pitch which is used for a wide range of sports. Indoor sporting facilities include 2 small gymnasiums, a multi gym and a full size games hall with electronic scoreboard. The current role is around 1350 which is slightly higher than the recommended capacity for Auchmuty - a new school to replace the other two high schools in Glenrothes is currently being discussed.

Balfarg is a prehistoric monument complex in Glenrothes, Fife, Scotland. It is protected as a scheduled monument. With the development of Glenrothes new town in the latter half of the 20th Century an adjacent residential area was developed around the complex carrying the same name.

Thornton Junction railway station served the village of Thornton, Fife, Scotland from 1847 to 1969 on the Fife Coast Railway.
