Arlington Historical Museum

The Hume School is an 1891 former school building in the Arlington Ridge neighborhood in Arlington County, Virginia. It is the oldest school building in Arlington County. It has been the home of the Arlington Historical Society since 1960.

The Aurora Highlands Historic District is a national historic district located at Arlington County, Virginia. It contains 624 contributing buildings, 2 contributing sites, and 1 contributing structure in a residential neighborhood in South Arlington. Aurora Highlands was formed by the integration of three subdivisions platted between 1896 and 1930, with improvements in the form of modest single-family residences. The district is characterized by single family dwellings with a number of twin dwellings and duplexes, three churches, a rectory, two schools, two landscaped parks, and commercial buildings. The oldest dwelling is associated with “Sunnydale Farm” and is a Greek Revival-style dwelling built about 1870. The predominant architectural style represented is Colonial Revival.In the early 1970s, spillover commuter parking in Aurora Highlands by workers at the adjacent Crystal City complex led the county to establish the first residential zoned parking in the U.S. with the goal of reducing air pollution and protecting the neighborhood character as well as its quality of life. A lawsuit was filed to block it as a violation of the Equal Protection Clause of the Fourteenth Amendment. The plaintiffs prevailed in trial court and then on appeal to the Virginia Supreme Court, which held it unconstitutional since it granted residents of the permit zone greater rights over the public streets than their neighbors outside of it. The county appealed to the U.S. Supreme Court, which reversed the lower courts in Arlington County Board v. Richards, holding that discrimination based on residency alone was not unconstitutional if it rationally furthered a legitimate state interest such as those embraced by the ordinance.It was listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 2005.

Grace Murray Hopper Park is a small memorial park in Arlington, Virginia. The park is named in honor of Grace Hopper, a computer scientist and naval officer. The park is near Riverhouse, a high-rise community where Hopper lived her later years. The park was originally funded by private sources, but is now owned by Arlington. The park is located across the I-395 corridor from The Pentagon.

Arlington Ridge is an neighborhood in Arlington County, Virginia, United States. It is bordered on the north by The Pentagon, on the west by the Army Navy Country Club, and on the south the City of Alexandria. The main thoroughfare is the eponymous Arlington Ridge Road, a mansion-lined boulevard that, due to its high elevation, offers picturesque views of Washington, D.C., and the surrounding areas. Also known simply as "The Ridge", this community is home to two historical points of interest: the Hume School (National Register of Historic Places), currently the site of the Arlington Country Historical Society and Museum, and Fort Scott (Historic District), currently the site of Fort Scott Park.

Pentagon Row is an upscale outdoor shopping and residential center in Arlington, Virginia, United States with storefronts facing South Joyce Street. It is adjacent to the Fashion Centre at Pentagon City. It is noted as being one of the contributing factors to the failure of the nearby Landmark Mall. In December 2020 it changed its name to "Westpost" in a rebranding move.

Prospect Hill in Arlington County, Virginia is the former location of a Federal style mansion built in 1841 by successful contractor James Roach in Arlington County (then named Alexandria County). The house was built on Arlington Ridge Road. In 1861, the land was seized and vandalized by Union soldiers during the construction of Fort Runyon and Fort Albany. The house was demolished in 1965, but an historic marker has been placed at the site. Roach had also supplied most of the materials for the Alexandria Canal, the Aqueduct Bridge, and the Alexandria, Loudoun and Hampshire Railroad.After the September 11 attacks, Prospect Hill became a popular spot for photographs to take photos of The Pentagon after it was crashed into by American Airlines Flight 77.The site is also home to the 0.4 acre Prospect Hill Park.

Fort Albany was a bastioned earthwork that the Union Army built in Arlington County (known at the time as Alexandria County) in Virginia. The Army constructed the fort during May 1861 as part of its Civil War defenses of Washington (see Washington, D.C., in the American Civil War).The fort had a perimeter of 429 yards and emplacements for 12 guns.Fort Richardson, Fort Craig and Fort Tillinghast provided supporting fire for the fort. A May 17, 1864, report from the Union Army's Inspector of Artillery (see Union Army artillery organization) noted the following:Fort Albany, Captain Rhodes commanding.–Garrison, one company First Massachusetts Volunteers–5 commissioned officers, 1 ordnance-sergeant, 145 men. Armament, two 24-pounder field howitzers, four 24-pounder siege, two Parrotts, one Coehorn mortar, one 10-inch mortar. Magazines, two; dry and in good order. Ammunition, full supply and in good condition. Implements, complete and in good order. Drill in artillery, fair. Drill in infantry, fair. Discipline, fair. Garrison of sufficient strength. No trace of the fort remains, although a historic marker shows the location where the fort once stood, guarding the approach to the Long Bridge along the Columbia Turnpike, near the modern-day Pentagon. The ground on which the Fort stood was cut away during the construction of the Henry G. Shirley Memorial Highway, in 1942.

Fashion Centre at Pentagon City, also known as Pentagon City Mall, is a shopping mall in the Pentagon City neighborhood of Arlington, Virginia, near Interstate 395 and Hayes Street. Its Metro level is directly connected to the Pentagon City station on the Blue and Yellow Lines of the Washington Metro. Completed in October 1989, the Fashion Centre is the largest enclosed shopping mall in Arlington, housing 164 retailers and restaurants. It is anchored by department stores Macy's and Nordstrom, and is directly connected to the Ritz-Carlton Pentagon City hotel. The Washington Tower office building, formerly leased by MCI, is part of the mall property; its lower levels are part of the mall.

Pentagon City station is an underground Washington Metro station in the Pentagon City neighborhood of Arlington, Virginia, United States. It serves the Blue and Yellow Lines.

The Harry W. Gray House is a historic home located in Arlington, Virginia. It was built in 1881, and is two-story, three bay, "L"-shaped brick free-standing rowhouse dwelling in the Italianate style. It has a standing seam metal shed roof and full-width one-story front porch. It was built by Harry W. Gray (c.1851-1913), a former slave on General Robert E. Lee's Arlington House estate and the son of Selina Gray. It is a rare example of the brick rowhouse in Arlington County.It was listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 2004.

Pentagon City is an unincorporated neighborhood (also called an "urban village") located in the southeast portion of Arlington County, Virginia, near The Pentagon and Arlington National Cemetery.

The Navy Annex was a building near the Pentagon in Arlington, Virginia mainly used as offices for the United States Department of the Navy. The facility was also known as Federal Office Building 2. It was demolished in 2013 to make room for an expansion of Arlington National Cemetery and other uses.
