Holysloot

Zuiderwoude is a village in the municipality of Waterland, province of North Holland, Netherlands. It lies about 2 km (1.2 mi) south of the municipal administrative centre Monnickendam. In 2021, the statistical area of Zuiderwoude had a population of 320, up from 260 in 2004.

Waterland (Dutch pronunciation: [ˈʋaːtərlɑnt] (listen)) is a municipality in the Netherlands, located in the province of North Holland. It is situated north of Amsterdam, on the western shore of the Markermeer. It is well-known for comprising the touristy towns of Broek in Waterland and Marken.

Uitdam is a village in the Dutch province of North Holland. It is a part of the municipality of Waterland, and lies on the coast of the IJsselmeer, about 12 km northeast of Amsterdam. The village was first mentioned in 1345 as Udam, and means "damn outside the dike". Uitdam and neighbouring Zuiderwoude formed a heerlijkheid in 1628 which existed until 1811. Uitdam was home to 88 people in 1840. The first church was built in the 17th century. The current church dates from 1937.

Ransdorp is a village in the province of North Holland, Netherlands, part of the municipality of Amsterdam. It lies about 7 km northeast of the city centre, in the Landelijk Noord district. Ransdorp is a part of the borough (Dutch: stadsdeel) Amsterdam-Noord and has about 245 inhabitants.In 1840, the village had 292 inhabitants, living in 44 houses. Ransdorp was a separate municipality until 1921, when it merged with Amsterdam so that the Government of Amsterdam could ensure that the village's infrastructure was well-maintained. The municipality also covered the villages of Durgerdam, Holysloot and Schellingwoude. The village has an exceptional number of buildings labelled as Rijksmonumenten; its church is the best known. The village's main sources of revenue are dairy farming and tourism. Ransdorp is served by public bus lines operated by the Gemeentelijk Vervoerbedrijf (GVB). Ransdorp was visited by the American reality television show The Amazing Race 12 in 2007. Contestants had to perform a traditional fierljeppen river vault before completing the "leg" at a local yacht club in Durgerdam. The show returned to the village five years later on The Amazing Race 21 to perform a "Switchback" of fierljeppen task again before ending the leg near the church of Ransdorp. In 2016, the village was featured on the Chinese reality show Race the World as the site of a geese herding task. In 2020, the village appeared on the Israeli reality show HaMerotz LaMillion 8 as the site of a fierljeppen task.

Museum de Speeltoren is a museum in Monnickendam, North Holland, in the Netherlands. Museum exhibitions focus on the history, culture, art, and environment of Monnickendam. The museum has a large collection of delftware and majolica. They also have an exhibition where guests can go inside the Speeltoren carillon.In 2015, the museum was awarded the national Dutch "Museum Discover Award."

Broek in Waterland is a village in the province of North Holland, Netherlands with a population of about 2,745 inhabitants as of 2021. It is a part of the municipality of Waterland, and is situated about 8 km south of Purmerend and 8 km northeast of Amsterdam. In the 17th and 18th century, the village was a popular residence for merchants and seafarers from Amsterdam. Due to its monument status, much of its history has been preserved.

It is a fine dining restaurant that was awarded one Michelin star for the period 2009-present.GaultMillau awarded the restaurant 15 out of 20 points.Head chef of Posthoorn is Jeroen Bavelaar. He took over from Rogier van Dam, who left the restaurant in 2010.Hotel De Posthoorn, with its new restaurant, reopened in 2005. The original hotel started as a stable and inn in 1888.

Vuurtoreneiland ("Lighthouse Island") is a small island in the IJmeer, Netherlands, just off the coast of Durgerdam. The island's main function is as a base for a lighthouse; a military fort on the island was abandoned in the 1930s.

Monnickendam (Dutch pronunciation: [ˌmɔnɪkənˈdɑm]) is a city in the Dutch province of North Holland. It is a part of the municipality of Waterland, and lies on the coast of the Markermeer, about 8 km (5.0 mi) southeast of Purmerend. It received city rights in 1355 and was damaged by the fires of 1500 and 1513.

Overleek is a hamlet in North Holland, in the municipality of Waterland, close to Monnickendam. Overleek is not a statistical entity, and the postal authorities have placed it under Monnickendam. It consists of about 30 houses.

Katwoude is a village in the province of North Holland, Netherlands. It is a part of the municipality of Waterland, and lies on the coast of the IJsselmeer, about 2 km north of Monnickendam. The village was first mentioned in 1310 as "lant van Kattwoude". The etymology is unclear. Even though there is a cat in the shield, it is unlikely to be related to the animal.Katwoude was home to 182 people in 1840. It used to be a separate municipality between 1817 and 1991, when it became part of Waterland. Katwoude used to share a mayor with Monnickendam.

The IJmeer is a 'bordering lake' (Randmeer) in the Netherlands. It lies between the De Nes polder (in Waterland), Pampushaven, Hollandse Brug and the mouth of the IJ in IJburg, straddling the provinces of North Holland and Flevoland. It is an important habitat for birds such as the tufted duck and scaup. To the north-east is the Markermeer, south-east is the Gooimeer.
