France Avenue

Chesterton Academy is a private, co-ed, Catholic secondary school in Hopkins, Minnesota, United States. It is located in the Roman Catholic Archdiocese of Saint Paul and Minneapolis. Launched in the fall of 2008 by Dale Ahlquist and Tom Bengtson, the school is centered on G. K. Chesterton’s ideas of integrated learning. It offers summer school programs, options for home-schooled students, and adult enrichment classes.Chesterton Academy has been recognized as one of the "Top 50 Catholic High Schools for excellence in Catholic identity, academics and civics education" by the Cardinal Newman Society.Chesterton Academy has several campuses around the United States. Besides Hopkins, there is one in Saint Paul, Omaha, Chicago, Milwaukee, and Buffalo, New York. There is also a campus in Italy, whose students have sometimes visited the Edina campus. Chesterton Academy also sometimes receives foreign exchange students.

Southdale Center is a shopping mall located in Edina, Minnesota, a suburb of the Twin Cities. It opened in 1956 and is both the first and the oldest fully enclosed, climate-controlled shopping mall in the United States. Southdale Center has 1,297,608 square feet (120,551.7 m2; 29.7890 acres; 12.05517 ha) of leasable retail space, and contains 106 retail tenants. The mall is owned by Simon Property Group and the anchor stores are Macy's, Dave & Buster's, AMC Theatres, Hennepin Service Center, and Life Time Athletic. Victor Gruen, the center's architect, designed the mall to challenge the "car-centric" America that was rising in the 1950s. Since its opening in 1956, Southdale has suffered through high vacancy rates and several store closures, but has been able to recover in recent years. Several additions have been performed on the building, including a 2011 renovation which involved the construction of a brand new food court. Southdale Center continues to use much of its original structure despite these renovations, and has been the host of several charity and community events throughout the years.

50th & France is a commercial district located in the area of West 50th Street and France Avenue South in the cities of Edina and Minneapolis in the U.S. state of Minnesota. It includes over 175 retail shops and offices. Shops include various apparel stores, craft stores, jewelers, restaurants, cafes, spas, salons, and multiplex art-house movie theater. In 2007, a mid-rise condominium building, with units going for well over $1 million, was built on the southwest corner of the intersection. Once a year the 50th & France area hosts the Edina Art Fair, which has served as a national showcase for the fine arts since 1966.

Armatage is a neighborhood in the Southwest community in Minneapolis. In the city's southwest corner, the neighborhood is bounded on the north by 54th Street West, on the east by Logan Avenue South, on the south by Highway 62, and on the west by the city limits at Xerxes Avenue South. The neighborhood grew around the school named for Maude Armatage, a distinguished community leader. Armatage is built up with mostly single-family housing and some multifamily buildings. The neighborhood also has a park with a community center.The neighborhood's retail space consists of individual neighborhood stores and is mostly along Penn Avenue South. The great majority of housing was built between 1949 and 1969, while about 5% of the dwellings were built before World War II. The Armatage Neighborhood Association (ANA) was founded in 1991 as part of a citywide effort to increase opportunities for residents to connect with the city and allow neighborhoods to address local concerns. ANA board members serve a one-year term commencing in May. The Armatage Summer Festival is an annual party in August at Armatage Park held in partnership with Armatage Park.

Fulton is a neighborhood in the Southwest community in Minneapolis. Its boundaries are West 47th Street to the north, Penn Avenue South to the east, West 54th Street to the south, and France Avenue South to the west. Nearby neighborhoods include Linden Hills to the north, Lynnhurst to the east, and Armatage to the south. The suburb of Edina lies to the south and west. West 50th Street is a major east–west thoroughfare bisecting the neighborhood. At its intersection with France Avenue is the upscale 50th & France commercial district, which lies along the border between Minneapolis and Edina. In 2017 Fulton saw the killing of Justine Damond, in which a 40 year old Australian woman was shot and killed by police officer Mohamed Noor after calling 9-1-1 to report a possible assault behind her home.

The Galleria is an upscale shopping mall in Edina, Minnesota anchored by Williams-Sonoma Brand. This mall is located directly across the street from America's first enclosed mall with climate control, Southdale Center, which originally opened in 1956. The mall's anchor stores are Pottery Barn, Tiffany & Co., Marmi, Crave, Williams Sonoma, Pumpz, Coach, Eileen Fisher, Lili Salon Spa, Fawbush's, Ampersand Shops, Bluemercury, InVision, Hammer Made, J.Jill, The North Face, Sotheby's, Barnes & Noble, Arhaus, Chico's, Louis Vuitton, Design Within Reach, Allen Edmonds, Big Island, Tumi, Twill, J.McLaughlin, Free People, Sundance, Vineyard Vines, Gabberts, Crate & Barrel, Kate Spade New York, Tory Burch, and David Yurman. In 2004, the Galleria garnered attention in the shopping centre industry by implementing the then-novel idea of an electronic gift registry where registrants may specify items from multiple merchants at the center.In 2006, the Galleria received city council approval for an expansion project and site development. The Galleria's plan included an $85 million project attaching a Westin hotel.

On July 15, 2017, Justine Damond (née Ruszczyk), a 40-year-old Australian-American woman, was fatally shot by 31-year-old Somali-American Minneapolis Police Department officer Mohamed Noor after she had called 9-1-1 to report the possible assault of a woman in an alley behind her house. Occurring weeks after a high-profile manslaughter trial acquittal in the 2016 police killing of Philando Castile, also in the Minneapolis–Saint Paul metropolitan area, the shooting exacerbated existing tensions and attracted national and international press.In April 2019, Noor was tried before a jury on charges of second-degree murder, third-degree murder, and second-degree manslaughter. Noor claimed self defense. The jury convicted Noor of third-degree murder and second-degree manslaughter, but he was acquitted on the charge of intentional second degree murder. In June 2019, Noor was sentenced to 12.5 years in prison. Noor's conviction on third-degree murder was overturned by the Minnesota Supreme Court on September 15, 2021. In October 2021, his sentence was revised to 4.75 years in prison, with credit for time served. Noor was released from custody on June 27, 2022, and was ordered to remain on supervised release until January 24, 2024.Damond's family brought a civil lawsuit against the City of Minneapolis alleging violation of Damond's civil rights, which the city settled for US$20 million in 2019.

Bridge No. 90646, also known as the Wooddale Avenue Bridge, is a multi-plate steel arch bridge that carries a local street over Minnehaha Creek in Edina, Minnesota, United States. The bridge was listed on the National Register of Historic Places in February 2016.

The George W. Baird House is a house in Edina, Minnesota, United States, built in 1886 by a prominent farmer in the Edina Mills community. The house was originally part of a 120-acre (49 ha) farmstead. The house was listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 1980 for having local significance in architecture, agriculture, and settlement.

The Edina Mill was one of the first of six gristmills to be built on the Minnehaha Creek in Hennepin County, Minnesota between 1855 and 1876. Located in present-day Edina, the mill site was discovered during an expedition from Fort Snelling to Lake Minnetonka in 1822. Although the original mill structure was demolished in 1932, its former site is preserved with foundation markers and informational exhibits.

Southdale Library is an American public library. It is located in Edina, Minnesota, United States. At 60,000 square feet, it is one of the largest in the Hennepin County Library system. The building is part of a complex that also houses district courts. The library offers materials in English, Chinese, Russian, Somali, Spanish, and Vietnamese.

Southwest High School is a four-year comprehensive public high school located in the Linden Hills neighborhood of Minneapolis, Minnesota, United States. It is one of 10 high schools in the Minneapolis Public Schools district. Southwest offers the International Baccalaureate Diploma Programme.
