Grossmont College

Grossmont Middle College High School (GMCHS) is a high school in San Diego County, California. Founded in 2001, GMCHS is located on the Grossmont College campus and is run entirely by two teachers, a secretary and a counselor. GMCHS is a WASC-accredited alternative high school, providing a bridge to college education and career training. Juniors and seniors who are capable of succeeding at the college level and who are not challenged by traditional high school work have the opportunity to complete requirements for high school graduation while earning college credits and obtaining job experience. GMCHS used to require internships, but from successful negotiations from the counselor to the district, this requirement is no longer necessary. Open by application to students living throughout San Diego County, GMCHS best suits bright and mature students interested in a serious learning environment who are out of place in the traditional, comprehensive high school. They take high school English, social studies and study skills courses taught by district instructors while completing an internship in an area related to their chosen career path. In addition, all students are required to complete a minimum of six college credits per semester. These credits either fulfill high school graduation or college general education requirements, or both. The Fletcher Hills are a low mountain range in the Peninsular Ranges, in southwestern San Diego County, California.The name Fletcher Hills also refers to a neighborhood near San Diego, California which lies primarily in the city of El Cajon and partially in La Mesa. The area was developed in 1927–1928 by San Diego developer Ed Fletcher.

The Cleveland Elementary School shooting was a school shooting that took place on January 29, 1979, at Grover Cleveland Elementary School in San Diego, California, United States. The principal and a custodian were killed; eight children and police officer Robert Robb were injured. A 16-year-old girl, Brenda Spencer, who lived in a house across the street from the school, was convicted of the shootings. Charged as an adult, she pleaded guilty to two counts of murder and assault with a deadly weapon, resulting in her being sentenced to life in prison with a chance of parole after 25 years. As of 2024, she is still in prison. A reporter reached Spencer by phone while she was still in the house after the shooting, and asked her why she committed the crime. She reportedly answered: "I don't like Mondays. This livens up the day," which inspired Bob Geldof and Johnnie Fingers to write the Boomtown Rats song "I Don't Like Mondays."

ATA College, formerly known as Advanced Training Associates, is a private college in El Cajon, California. ATA College is accredited by the Council on Occupational Education (COE) and approved by the Bureau of Private Post-Secondary Education. The institute is also approved to participate in Federal financial aid programs by the Department of Education for students who qualify. The school provides training to the military and has been a Department of Defense contractor for vocational education since 1996. Tuition Assistance and Veterans Benefits can be used at ATA College. The institute is an approved training center by the Fiber Optic Association.ATA College is an official testing site for Pearson VUE and the Electronics Technicians Association. The school is also certified by the National Radio Examiners to administer FCC licensing exams, and the ATA College instructors are official test proctors.

Cowles Mountain (/koʊlz/, /kaʊlz/ {a proscribed pronunciation}; properly KOHLZ, commonly KOWLZ) is a prominent mountain located in the San Carlos neighborhood, within the city limits of San Diego. The 1,593-foot (486 m) summit is the highest point of the city of San Diego. It is protected within Mission Trails Regional Park.

Chaparral High School is the main continuation high school located in El Cajon, California for the Grossmont Union High School District (GUHSD). Currently GUHSD serves 24,456 students at 12 high schools. Located in the city of El Cajon, it provides an alternative educational setting for an average of 300 students, eighty of which are designated Special Education, in grades nine through twelve. Students at Chaparral are referred by the eleven comprehensive high schools in the District for reasons involving poor attendance, lack of academic success or behavioral issues. In addition, students may voluntarily elect to attend Chaparral. The student population changes as students are returned to their school of residence upon completion of their remediation and/or academic goals. Chaparral offers programs and services to supplement the basic education program. Some of these services include an incoming orientation, Special Education Program, extended day tutorials and Title I support. Chaparral High School teaches programs such as Anger Management, and many other programs that students can use to fit into their daily lifestyles.

Gillespie Field station is a Green Line station of the San Diego Trolley in the San Diego suburb of Santee, California. It is located across Marshall Avenue from Gillespie Field, a county airport which also contains an annex of the San Diego Air & Space Museum. It was ranked worst rail station in California in a 2015 UC Berkeley School of Law study, due to its sparse, unwalkable location and lack of ridership. Study co-author Elkind was quoted in the press, “I almost wondered if there was really a station out there or if we got the GPS wrong. It looked like cow pastures.”

San Carlos is a neighborhood in the eastern area of San Diego, California. It borders the neighborhoods of Del Cerro, Tierrasanta, Allied Gardens, the city of La Mesa, and Mission Trails Regional Park. The neighborhood extends to Cowles Mountain at the north.San Carlos is geographically defined largely by its proximity to Mission Trails Regional Park and to the man-made reservoir Lake Murray. The area consists primarily of single-family homes.

Amaya Drive station is a San Diego Trolley station served by the Orange and Green lines in the San Diego suburb of La Mesa, California. It serves mainly as a park and ride stop for the surrounding community.

ASTREA is an acronym for Aerial Support To Regional Enforcement Agencies, the air support unit of the San Diego County Sheriff's Department. ASTREA Base is located at Gillespie Field Airport (IATA: SEE, ICAO: KSEE) in El Cajon, California.

The National Air College is an FAA Certified Flight Training Academy located on Montgomery Field (KMYF) in San Diego, California. It is the longest surviving civilian Flight Training School in San Diego. In fact, it is the only flight training facility on Montgomery Airfield which maintains its own aircraft on its own aircraft hangars. National Air College is also an FAA Certified Repair Station, employing its own mechanics.
