Ground Equipment Facility J-31 (San Pedro Hill Air Force Station during the Cold War) is a Joint Surveillance System radar site of the Western Air Defense Sector (WADS) and the Federal Aviation Administration's air traffic control radar network [1] for the Los Angeles Air Route Traffic Control Center. The facility's Air Route Surveillance Radar Model 1E with an ATCBI-6 beacon interrogator system are operated by the FAA and provide sector data to North American Aerospace Defense Command. The site provided Semi-Automatic Ground Environment data to the 1959-66 Norton AFB Direction Center for the USAF Los Angeles Air Defense Sector. The site also provided Project Nike data to the 1960-74 Fort MacArthur Direction Center ~3 mi (4.8 km) away for the smaller US Army Los Angeles Defense Area—as well as gap-filler radar coverage for the 1963-74 Integrated Fire Control area of Malibu Nike battery LA-78 on San Vicente Mountain.

The Palos Verdes Hills are a low mountain range on the southwestern coast of Los Angeles County, California. They sit atop the Palos Verdes Peninsula, a sub-region of the Los Angeles metropolitan area. The Palos Verdes Hills are the landed end of the Channel Islands of California, a mountains formation in the Transverse Ranges System.

Trump National Golf Club, Los Angeles is a public golf club in Rancho Palos Verdes, California with a 7,242-yard (6,622 m) course designed by Pete Dye and Donald J. Trump Signature Design. It is owned by The Trump Organization. Trump National Golf Club Los Angeles was formerly known as Ocean Trails Golf Club, an 18–hole course designed by Pete Dye, which was about to open when a landslide occurred in June 1999, and the 18th hole slid toward the Pacific Ocean. The Ocean Trails Golf Club subsequently went into bankruptcy, and on November 26, 2002, Trump bought the property for $27 million, intending to redesign the course. It includes a 45,000 sq ft (4,200 m2) clubhouse.It is ranked among the Top 100 Courses You Can Play by Golf Magazine.The club is known for its views of the Pacific Ocean and Catalina Island. The course featured three artificial waterfalls until they were removed during the 2011–2017 drought. The Michael Douglas Pro-Celebrity and Friends Golf Tournament takes place there annually, in April.At a total cost of $264 million, it would be the most expensive golf course ever constructed. Trump's representatives claimed the course was worth $10 million in dealing with the L.A. County property tax assessor two years after the course opened.

The Old Whaling Station or Old Whaling Station Portuguese Bend was a whaling station in California, built in 1869. The Old Whaling Station was designated a California Historic Landmark (No.381) on Jan. 3, 1944. The Old Whaling Station at Portuguese Bend was located in what is now Portuguese Bend in Rancho Palos Verdes, California in Los Angeles County.Portuguese Captain Frank Anderson processed 2,166 barrels of whale oil at this Historic Landmark from 1874 to 1877. In 1877 the station was abandoned. The whale stations had large kettles for rendering whale blubber into Whale oil, called tryworks. California's migrating whales were hunted in small boats from the station. Gray whales, as large as 36 tonnes, was the normal target. Hunting Gray whales in small boats was a very dangerous occupation, as many hunters were killed or injured. John Brown Whaling Company also operated at Portuguese Bend, starting in 1869. The last hunt was in 1885 due to the lack of the over hunted whales. Captain Joseph Clark is believed to have started the whaling industry in 1864. Gray whales were given protection from commercial hunting in 1949 by the International Whaling Commission (IWC) and are no longer hunted on a large scale.Los Angeles had a real estate boom in 1887. At this time Portuguese Bend was studied to see if a harbor could feasibly be built there. Pioneers of Orange County, J.K. Tuffree "Colonel John Tuffree" (1842–1903) made plans for a harbor, town, and railroad service to Portuguese Bend. He gave the planned harbor the name “Port Carolina,” after his wife Carolina (Polhemus)Tuffree. The real estate boom ended before he could start building.

On July 2, 1982, Larry Walters (April 19, 1949 – October 6, 1993) made a 45-minute flight in a homemade aerostat made of an ordinary patio chair and 45 helium-filled weather balloons. The aircraft rose to an altitude of about 16,000 feet (4,900 m), drifted from the point of liftoff in San Pedro, California, and entered controlled airspace near Long Beach Airport. During the landing, the aircraft became entangled in power lines, but Walters was able to climb down safely. The flight attracted worldwide media attention and inspired a movie and numerous imitators.

Averill Park is an urban park located in San Pedro, Los Angeles, California. It features barbecue pits, a gazebo and an artificial pond with a waterfall. There are numerous resident ducks, turtles, bees and various bird species

Rolling Hills is a city on the Palos Verdes Peninsula, in Los Angeles County, California, United States. Rolling Hills is a gated community with private roads with three entry gates. Homes are single-story 19th century California ranch or Spanish haciendas exemplified by architect Wallace Neff. Incorporated in 1957, Rolling Hills maintains a rural and equestrian character, with no traffic lights, multi-acre lots with ample space between homes, and wide equestrian paths along streets and property lines.Rolling Hills has the third highest median house value in the United States. Homes are required to have white exterior paint. Homeowners are also required to maintain horse property on their lots, or at minimum keep land where stalls could be built. The community was developed by A. E. Hanson, who also developed Hidden Hills.Residents work, shop, attend school, and obtain other services in the other towns on the Palos Verdes Peninsula as the only commercially zoned land within the city is occupied by the Rolling Hills City Hall, Rolling Hills Community Association, and LA County Fire Department Station 56. As of the 2020 census, the city population was 1,739, down from 1,860 at the 2010 census.

The Palos Verdes Peninsula (Palos Verdes, Spanish for "Green Sticks [trees]") is a peninsula and sub-region of the Los Angeles metropolitan area, located within southwestern Los Angeles County in the U.S. state of California. Located in the South Bay region, the peninsula contains a group of cities in the Palos Verdes Hills, including Palos Verdes Estates, Rancho Palos Verdes, Rolling Hills and Rolling Hills Estates, as well as the unincorporated community of Westfield/Academy Hill. The South Bay city of Torrance borders the peninsula on the north, the Pacific Ocean is on the west and south, and the Port of Los Angeles is east. As of the 2010 Census, the population of the Palos Verdes Peninsula is 65,008. The hill cities on the peninsula are known for dramatic ocean and city views, distinguished schools, extensive horse trails, and high value homes.

Little Company of Mary Hospital is a hospital in San Pedro, California, US. The hospital was founded in 1909 by Mrs. Lillian B. Mullen, a graduate nurse and physician from New York. The hospital began in the old Clarence Hotel. The first building constructed for the hospital was located on Sixth St. and was dedicated in 1925. Throughout its history, the hospital has been through numerous remodeling and construction projects and several name changes. The hospital aligned with the Sisters of the Little Company of Mary in the early 1990s. The affiliation with the Sisters of Providence took place in 1998 and the hospital (now medical center) is currently a part of Providence Health & Services.

The Portuguese Bend region is the largest area of natural vegetation remaining on the Palos Verdes Peninsula, in Los Angeles County, California. Though once slated for development including the projected route of Crenshaw Boulevard, the area is geologically unstable and is unsuitable for building.

Peck Park is a public park located in the San Pedro district of Los Angeles, California. The park's address is 560 Western Avenue, near the intersection with Summerland Avenue. Peck Park is managed by the City of Los Angeles Department of Recreation and Parks. Facilities at the park include a swimming pool, a baseball diamond, indoor and outdoor basketball courts, extensive hiking trails, and a child care center. In 1997 the Peck Park gymnasium was designed by Koning Eizenberg Architecture, Inc. The park is the largest of four in San Pedro named for notable land owner and developer George H. Peck and his family; Peck began to donate the land to the city for the park starting in 1929. The other three parks are named after his three children (Rena, Alma, and Leland).

Rancho Del Mar High School is one of three public high schools on the Palos Verdes Peninsula (the others being Palos Verdes Peninsula High School and Palos Verdes High School). Located on Crest Road in Rolling Hills, the school is part of the Palos Verdes Peninsula Unified School District. Rancho Del Mar was opened in 1984 on the former site of La Cresta Elementary School. With a relatively small enrollment, Rancho Del Mar High School focuses on students who experience difficulty with the regular high school environment or curriculum. It is a common secondary destination for those struggling with behavioral or academic issues at either Palos Verdes or Palos Verdes Peninsula High School. Enrollment is only granted through administrative recommendation.
