Lord's Hill Historic District

Effingham is a town in Carroll County, New Hampshire, United States. At the 2020 census, the town population was 1,691, up from 1,465 at the 2010 census. Effingham includes the villages of Effingham Falls, Effingham (Lord's Hill), Center Effingham (Drake's Corner), and South Effingham. Pine River State Forest is in the south.

The New England Masonic Charitable Institute is a historic building on Town House Road in Effingham, New Hampshire. It was listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 2019, and the New Hampshire State Register of Historic Places in 2002.It was founded by the Charter Oak Lodge No. 58 of Free and Accepted Masons. Although some Masonic buildings in other states provided space for schools on their first floors, this is the only school in the United States known to have been run by the Masons.It is a two-and-a-half story building, built in Italianate style. The Lodge's temple space within the building have trompe-l'œil murals painted by Boston painter Philip A. Butler. The murals depict classic sculptures, architectural details and Masonic symbols, including the All-Seeing Eye. The murals were water-damaged in the late 1980s but have since been restored.The building now houses the public library for the town of Effingham.

The South River is a 10.6-mile-long (17.1 km) river in eastern New Hampshire and western Maine in the United States. It is a tributary of the Ossipee River, which flows east to the Saco River and ultimately the Atlantic Ocean. The South River begins at the outlet of Province Lake in the town of Effingham, New Hampshire, and proceeds north past the village of Center Effingham. Jogging east, the river enters Parsonsfield, Maine, then turns north again to reach the Ossipee River.

The Blazo–Leavitt House is a historic house on Maine State Route 160 in Parsonsfield, Maine, United States. The large two-story house was built in 1812, and is one of the finest Federal period houses in northern York County. The house was listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 1982.

Parsonsfield Seminary, which operated from 1832 to 1949, was a well-known Free Will Baptist school in North Parsonsfield, Maine, in the United States. Also known as the North Parsonsfield Seminary, its preserved campus of four buildings is located on State Route 160 near the New Hampshire border. The property is listed on the National Register of Historic Places.

Freedom is a town located in Carroll County, New Hampshire, United States. The population was 1,689 at the 2020 census, up from 1,489 at the 2010 census. The town's eastern boundary runs along the Maine state border. Ossipee Lake, with a resort and camps, is in the southwest of the town.

The Porter-Parsonsfield Bridge is a covered bridge in western Maine, and one of the few 19th-century covered bridges left in the state. The bridge spans the Ossipee River just east of the modern alignment of North Road (Maine State Route 160), which it formerly carried, between the towns of Porter and Parsonsfield. Built in 1876 by the towns, it is a Paddleford truss bridge which has been strengthened with laminated arches. The bridge was closed to traffic in 1960, and is now maintained by the state. It was listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 1970.

Province Lake is a 968-acre (392 ha) water body located on the border between New Hampshire and Maine in the United States. Approximately 950 acres (380 ha) of the lake lie in the towns of Effingham and Wakefield, New Hampshire, with the remainder in Parsonsfield, Maine. Its outlet is the South River, flowing north to the Ossipee River, a tributary of the Saco River. Province Lake's maximum depth is between 15 and 17 feet (4.6 and 5.2 m), quite shallow for a New Hampshire lake, so there are no coldwater fish within. It is fed by several wetland areas, one named stream (Hobbs Brook), and by underwater springs. The quality of the water is high. The lake is classified as a warmwater fishery, with observed species including smallmouth and largemouth bass, chain pickerel, and horned pout. Loons, great blue heron, occasional mergansers and bald eagles are seen at the lake.

The Porter Old Meetinghouse is a historic meeting house on Old Meetinghouse Road in Porter, Maine, United States. Built in 1818-24, it is a well-preserved example of a meeting house in rural Maine, serving as a center of local religious and civic activities. The building was listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 1973.

The Old Town House is the town hall of Parsonsfield, Maine. Located on Merrill Hill Road, the 1834 Greek Revival building has served as the town's main civic building for more than 150 years. It was listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 2002.

The Benjamin and Abigail Dalton House is a historic house on Middle Road in North Parsonsfield, Maine. Built in the early 19th century, it is a fine local example of Federal style, and is notable for the murals drawn on its walls by Jonathan Poor, an itinerant artist. The house was listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 1997.
