The Alto Milanese ("Upper Milanese" or "Northern Milanese") is a highly populated and industrialized area of Lombardy, comprising the northwestern part of the Metropolitan City of Milan, the southern part of the province of Varese and a few municipalities of the southeastern part of the province of Como. It has an area of 235 square kilometres and a population of some 700,000 people, making it one of the most densely populated areas of Italy. Its main cities are Busto Arsizio, Legnano, Gallarate and Saronno; its main rivers are the Olona and the Ticino.It comprises seventy municipalities, of which forty-three belong to the province of Varese, twenty-four to the province of Milan, and three to the province of Como. It is crossed by the A8 and A9 autostrade and by the Milan–Malpensa, Domodossola–Milan and Saronno–Novara railways, and it is home to the Malpensa International Airport.

Busto Arsizio is a railway station in Italy. Located on the common section of the lines Domodossola–Milan, Luino–Milan and Porto Ceresio–Milan, it serves the city of Busto Arsizio. It is joined by a junction track to the Busto Arsizio Nord railway station, managed by Ferrovienord.

Marnate's Bunker is a military monument of World War II, with the purpose of being used as an industrial bunker. It is located in Valle Olona (Varese), Italy, between the boundaries of Marnate, Olgiate Olona and Gorla Minore. Built by the Germans between July and September 1944, Marnate's Bunker was conquered by the Italian resistance movement on April 26, 1945 after a harsh fight against the German garrison. During the fight, five Germans were killed, while from Garibaldini only an Italian named Carlo Moltrasio from Fagnano Olona died, and two more were slightly injured. After the surrender of the Germans, the partisans inspected the bunker, finding it completely empty, except for a powerful bomb intended to destroy it.

As of 31 December 2018, it had a population of 8,364 and an area of 7.7 square kilometres (3.0 sq mi).The municipality of Gorla Minore contains the frazione (subdivision) of Prospiano. Gorla Minore borders the following municipalities: Cislago, Gorla Maggiore, Marnate, Mozzate, Olgiate Olona, Rescaldina, Solbiate Olona. As of 31 December 2018, it had a population of 7,936 and an area of 4.8 km².The municipality of Marnate contains the frazione (subdivision) Nizzolina. Marnate borders the following municipalities: Castellanza, Gorla Minore, Olgiate Olona, Rescaldina. One of the main place in Marnate is called Marnate's Bunker which is a military monument of II World War.

The prepositural collegiate basilica of San Giovanni Battista is a Catholic church in Busto Arsizio, dedicated to one of the patron saints of the city. Like the church of San Michele Arcangelo, this building also stands on the remains of a small Lombard chapel about eight metres wide. In 1948 the church was elevated to the dignity of minor basilica. The bell tower was constructed from 1400 to 1418, and is the oldest part of the church.
