Queen Elizabeth Sixth Form College

Darlington College of Education was a teacher training college which existed for over one hundred years in the town of Darlington, County Durham in northern England. The college was founded in 1876 by the British and Foreign School Society at Vane Terrace, Darlington. Details of the college's physical expansion, student residences and principals can be found on the website of the Darlington Arts Centre which now occupies its former main building. (See External Link) For most of its life the college was mainly concerned with the training of nursery school teachers. A period of rapid expansion in the 1960s saw it grow in size to about 450 students by the early 1970s. A general training for infant and junior teachers was offered, as well as three specialist courses in biology, mathematics and physical education for secondary teachers. Academic validation of courses was provided by the University of Durham.Darlington was one of nearly fifty colleges forced to close down because of an enormous cut-back in planned teacher numbers by central government. David Hencke's book on these events selects Darlington as one of four case studies and explores the political vulnerability of the college. The final cohort of students left the college in 1978.

It formerly broadcast in Darlington, County Durham, North Yorkshire and surrounding areas on FM. The County Durham licences were owned and operated by UKRD Group until 31 March 2017, when it was purchased and later rebranded by View TV Group. In July 2019 Helius Media Group purchased the FM licences from View TV Group and rebranded the County Durham frequencies as Durham Radio & Alpha Radio (now broadcasting as Sun FM as of March 2020).

St Augustine's Church is a Roman Catholic parish church in Darlington, County Durham. The church was built in 1827 to a design by Ignatius Bonomi, was enlarged and remodelled by Joseph Hansom in 1865, and is a Grade II listed building.

Darlington Mechanics Institute is a large, imposing building at 82 Skinnergate in Darlington in the North East of England. Mechanics' Institutes were introduced in 1821 to help the working class educate themselves, giving access to newspapers and books. The design of the building is attributed by English Heritage to William Richardson and John Ross, both born in 1836 and apprenticed to Joshua Sparkes (d.1855). However, a book of original architectural designs in Darlington Library includes Sparkes's original design for the institute, alongside designs by Richardson and Ross dated 1851, when they were only 15. The foundation stone was laid 12 May 1853 by Elizabeth Pease of Feethams, whose £400 donation was the largest received towards the building's £2,300 cost. It was officially opened on 1 September 1854 by Elizabeth and her new husband, John Pringle Nichol, who she had married ten days after laying the foundation.In November 1877, two plaster casts of Thomas Earle's (d.1876) busts of Queen Victoria and Prince Albert were unveiled on either side of the stage at the institute. These were considered art treasures of Darlington, but were destroyed during World War I. At this time the institute was at its peak with over 400 members and a library numbering over 3,000 books. With the emergence of public libraries and technical colleges, the institute's role as a centre for self-improvement became less essential, and by the end of the 19th century, it was more of a social venue. Through the first half of the 20th century films, auctions, and public meetings were held there.In January 1959 the building let its ground floor to Newcastle Savings Bank, while the Institute relocated to the upper floor. Following the bank's vacating in the early 1980s, the building stood empty until becoming an American diner/bar in 1991. The institute, now reduced to 30 members, met in the attic. As of 2014, the building is being refurbished as a nightclub and bar, while the institute is a private snooker club located in nearby Bondgate.

Darlington Hebrew Congregation, a member of the Movement for Reform Judaism, is a Reform Judaism congregation at 15 Bloomfield Road in Darlington, County Durham, in the north-east of England. The congregation, which dates from 1904 and was originally an Orthodox community, has a historic burial ground and a current burial ground at West Cemetery, Carmel Road North, Darlington. Shabbat services are held monthly.

Polam Hall School is a mixed all-through school located in Darlington, County Durham, England. Polam Hall was founded as a Quaker "boarding school" for girls. It is now mixed-gender and inter-denominational but still retains its Quaker traditions and ethos.

The Old Town Hall and Market Hall is a municipal complex in West Row in Darlington, County Durham, England. The old town hall was the headquarters of Darlington Borough Council until it moved to the new town hall in Feethams in 1970. The complex consists of three separate buildings, all of which are Grade II listed: the old town hall, the market hall and the clock tower.

Feethams is a cricket and former football grounds in Darlington, England. The cricket ground has hosted Durham CCC matches.The football ground was the home of Darlington F.C. for from 1883 to 2003 until the club moved into another ground, now known as The Darlington Arena, in Darlington's outskirts. The football ground was subsequently demolished in 2006, while the cricket ground remains in use.

Cornmill Shopping Centre (The Cornmill) is a shopping centre located on Priestgate in central Darlington, England. It is the main shopping centre in the town, with over 40 shops, including Primark (its anchor store), Next, HMV, Waterstone's, WHSmith and Tesco Express. The centre is set over two levels and covers over 220,000 sq ft (20,000 m2). It also has a multi-storey car park with a 400 car capacity.Food outlets include a number of independent traders, as well as Costa Coffee and Greggs.

Darlington Town Hall is a municipal building in Feethams, Darlington, County Durham, England. It is the meeting place of Darlington Borough Council.
