Blauwestad (Dutch pronunciation: [ˌblʌu.əˈstɑt]) is a village in the municipality of Oldambt in the Netherlands. It is situated on the east bank of the Oldambtmeer in the east of the province of Groningen.

It was a separate municipality until it was merged into Oldambt in 2010. The seat of government of Oldambt is in Winschoten. There are three windmills and several churches in Winschoten. There is a railway station with direct connections to Groningen and Leer (Germany), although due to the reconstruction of the Friesenbrücke trains to Germany will stop at Weener until 2024. Winschoten has an important role as a shopping centre for the region of Oldambt. In the province of Groningen, it is the second-largest shopping destination and it attracts many consumers from nearby Germany.

Heiligerlee (Dutch pronunciation: [ˌɦɛilɪɣərˈleː]; Gronings: Kloosterholt [ˈkloʊstərɦɔːɫt]) is a village in the Dutch province of Groningen bordering the town of Winschoten, it is part of the municipality of Oldambt. It was the site of the 1536 Battle and the 1568 Battle of Heiligerlee

Oostwold is a village in the municipality of Oldambt in the province of Groningen in the Netherlands. The village is home to the Oostwold Airport. The village had a population of 960 people as of 2019.

The Battle of Heiligerlee (Heiligerlee, Groningen, 23 May 1568) was fought between Dutch rebels and the Spanish army of Friesland. It was the first Dutch victory during the Eighty Years' War. The Groningen province of the Spanish Netherlands was invaded by an army consisting of 3,900 infantry, led by Louis of Nassau, and 200 cavalry, led by Adolf of Nassau. Both of them were brothers of William I of Orange. The intention was to begin an armed uprising against the Spanish rulers of the Netherlands. The Stadtholder of Friesland and also Duke of Arenberg, Johan de Ligne, had an army of 3,200 infantry and 20 cavalry. Aremberg initially avoided confrontation and awaited reinforcements from the Count of Meghem. However, on 23 May, Adolf's cavalry lured him to an ambush at the monastery of Heiligerlee. Louis's infantry made up the bulk of the army and defeated the Spanish force which lost 460 men, and the invading force lost 50, including Adolf. The rebels captured seven cannons. The invading force, however, did not capture any cities and was soon defeated at the Battle of Jemmingen. The death of Adolf of Nassau is mentioned in the Dutch national anthem (fourth verse): Graef Adolff is ghebleven, In Vriesland in den slaech, "Count Adolf has died, in Friesland, in the battle"

Winschoten (Dutch pronunciation: [ˈʋɪnsxoːtən] ; abbreviation: Ws) is an unstaffed railway station in Winschoten in the Netherlands. It is located on the Harlingen–Nieuweschans railway between Scheemda and Bad Nieuweschans in the province of Groningen. The station building, designed by Karel Hendrik van Brederode, was completed in 1865 and expanded in 1904. Train services started on 1 May 1868 and have since been provided by Maatschappij tot Exploitatie van Staatsspoorwegen (1868–1937), Nederlandse Spoorwegen (1938–2000), NoordNed (2000–2005), and Arriva (2005–present). During World War II, 500 Jews were transported from the station via the Westerbork transit camp to Nazi concentration camps, where most of them were killed. The station has three tracks and two platforms. As of 2014, there are two local train services with trains every half an hour to and from Groningen, and trains every hour to and from Bad Nieuweschans and Leer (Germany). The station handles 2,500 rail passengers on an average weekday. There is a park and ride area for cars and bicycles, and a bus station with nine regional services provided by Qbuzz.

Heiligerlee (Dutch pronunciation: [ˈɦɛilɪɣərˌleː]; abbreviation: Hle) was a railway stop (Dutch: stopplaats) in the village of Heiligerlee in the Netherlands. It was located on the Harlingen–Nieuweschans railway between the railway stations of Scheemda and Winschoten in the province of Groningen. Trains operated by Staatsspoorwegen called at Heiligerlee from 1908 until the railway stop was closed in 1934.

Westerlee is a village in the Dutch province of Groningen. It is located in the municipality of Oldambt, about 3 km west of the city of Winschoten. Westerlee was a separate municipality until 1821, when it was merged with Scheemda.
