The Omega Chemical Corporation was a refrigerant and solvent recycling company that operated from 1976 to 1991 in Whittier, California. Due to improper waste handling and removal, the soil and groundwater beneath the property became contaminated and the area is now referred to as the Omega Chemical Superfund Site. Cleanup of the site began in 1995 with the removal of hazardous waste receptacles and a multimillion-dollar soil vaporization detoxifying system.

The Paradox Hybrid Walnut Tree was planted by George Weinshank in 1907. The Paradox Hybrid Walnut Tree was designated a California Historic Landmark (No.681) on May 29, 1959. The Paradox Hybrid Walnut Tree is located is in what is now the City of Whittier, California in Los Angeles County at 12300 Whittier Blvd, Whittier, Cal. George Weinshank worked with Professor Ralph Smith with the University of California in the development of Walnut Trees for growing in California. The experimental Walnut Tree is still growing and the Walnut industry in California has done well. About 99% of all the United States walnuts are grown in California. Walnuts grown in California account for two-thirds of the world’s walnut trade.

The Fred C. Nelles Youth Correctional Facility was in essence a prison for youth located on Whittier Boulevard, in Whittier, California. Operated by the California Youth Authority, now part of California Department of Corrections, it once quartered young people incarcerated for law-breaking until it was closed by the state of CA in June 2004. Open for 113 years, it had been the oldest juvenile facility in the state, and became registered as California Historical Landmark #947. It was closed because of the reduction in the number of juveniles being housed.

The Orin Jordan House is a Victorian house in Whittier, California that was built in 1888 by Orin Jordan. Also known as the "Old Jordan House" and the "Whitaker Home", the house is located at 8310 S. Comstock Ave. It was built as a 29.75 by 38 feet (9.07 m × 11.58 m) two-story ell-shaped wood-frame house, with nine rooms.The house was moved in 1926 by about 300 feet (91 m) to the southwest, to its present location on Comstock.The Orin Jordan House was added to the National Register of Historic Places in 1980.

Whittier High School (WHS) is a high school located in Whittier, California. It belongs to the Whittier Union High School District. It is the alma mater of President Richard Nixon (class of 1930) and John Lasseter (class of 1975), founder of Pixar.

Southern Pacific Railroad Depot in Whittier, California is a train depot built in 1892 that is being preserved by the City of Whittier to house a railroad museum and community center. The depot is a rectangular two-story, wood-frame building. The station agent lived in the second floor apartment. In the 1890s the growth of Whittier caused the Southern Pacific Railroad to build a branch line from its main line in Santa Fe Springs, California. The depot was originally built at 11825 Bailey Street. The branch served local citrus packing houses and a gas works. In the early 1900s, the Pacific Electric Railway built a branch line that paralleled the Southern Pacific track. With the arrival of the automobile, passenger traffic on the Pacific Electric decreased, and in 1938 the Pacific Electric ceased service to Whittier. The Southern Pacific then abandoned its tracks and took over the Pacific Electric tracks and extended them to the station. The Southern Pacific continued providing freight train service to Whittier until 1967. From 1967 until the mid-1980s, the Southern Pacific Depot was occupied by various industrial tenants. On July 1, 1978 the depot was first listed in the National Register of Historic Places. In the mid-1980s, plans began to develop for the restoration and preservation of the depot. The City took possession of the depot and after several years of neglect, the City received a $1.2 million grant to restore and reuse the depot. The depot was ultimately moved to 7333 Greenleaf Ave., near the Uptown Business District. Because of the move, the depot was removed from the National Register on October 1, 2004. The depot was subsequently relisted at its present location on March 29, 2005.

Standard Oil Building is a historic building in Whittier, California. Built in 1914, it was designed by Rea & Garstang in the Spanish Colonial Revival architectural style. The building was built for the Standard Oil Company, which had begun successfully drilling for oil in 1910 in the area. The building was added to the National Register of Historic Places in 1980, and is now used as a restaurant, beauty salon, and day spa. The Standard Oil Building refers to a small complex of buildings around a courtyard; the first-built portion, built in 1914, is [[Mission Style]] 32 feet (9.8 m) tall and 68 by 34 feet (21 m × 10 m) in plan.

Hoover Hotel is a historic hotel in Whittier, Los Angeles County, Southern California.

National Bank of Whittier Building is a historic building in uptown Whittier, California. Built in 1923 by John and David Parkinson in the Beaux Arts Neoclassical architecture style, the building was added to the National Register of Historic Places in 1982. The current building is the best remaining example of the Beaux Arts style in the City. The building is of national significance as it was the site of Richard M. Nixon's first law office. Whittier was Nixon's boyhood home from the age of nine. In 1938 he served as the Deputy City Attorney to the City of Whittier. A replica of President Nixon's office has been re-created and is available to tour at the Whittier Historical Museum.

St. Paul High School is a private, Catholic, co-educational high school serving the Gateway Cities of Los Angeles County owned and operated by the Roman Catholic Archdiocese of Los Angeles, and was founded in 1956. The campus is located in Santa Fe Springs approximately 14 miles (23 km) east of downtown Los Angeles. It was named after St. Paul the Apostle.

The Quad at Whittier is a shopping mall in Whittier, California. It was built in 1953 and expanded in 1965 with the addition of a May Company California department store. Arcadia-based Hinshaw's and Pasadena-based Nash's were other major tenants.After the center was destroyed by the 1987 Whittier Narrows earthquake, its owners began renovating it as a strip mall. Hinshaw's, the only store not affected by the earthquake, closed in 1992.The current shopping center includes Burlington Coat Factory (which opened in 1999 in the old Hinshaw's), Michael's, Old Navy, Rubi's, Ross Dress for Less, Staples, Rite Aid (formerly Thrifty Drugs), Vallarta Supermarkets (formerly Ralphs), Olive Garden, Chili's, and TJ Maxx.

The Waste Disposal Inc. Superfund site is an oil-related contaminated site in the highly industrialized city of Santa Fe Springs in Los Angeles County, California. It is approximately 38 acres (15 ha), with St Paul's high school immediately adjacent to the northeast corner of the site. Approximately 15,000 residents of Santa Fe Springs obtain drinking water from wells within three miles (4.8 km) of the site.
