Peterskopf (Haardt)

The Bismarck Tower (German: Bismarckturm) on the 497-metre-high Peterskopf in the Haardt mountains on the eastern edge of the Palatine Forest stands within an exclave of the municipality of Kallstadt in the German state of Rhineland-Palatinate.

The Lindemannsruhe is an area of upland in the parish of Freinsheim in the German county of Bad Dürkheim. It lies at a height of 465 metres above sea level (NN) in the foothills of the Palatinate Forest, below the Peterskopf (487 m) and was named after a former senior forester, Lindemann. It is a popular recreation area for walkers, hikers and cyclists.

The Weilerskopf is a hill, 470 metres high, in a wooded exclave of Herxheim am Berg northwest of the German town of Bad Dürkheim. Its summit is the site of a transmission tower owned by Deutsche Telekom.

The Leininger Sporn is a highly prominent ridge in the northeast of the Palatinate Forest in western Germany, mainly composed of the rock formations of the Middle and Upper Bunter. It forms the western edge of Upper Rhine Plain between Grünstadt in the north and Leistadt, a village in the county of Bad Dürkheim, in the southeast. In the natural region system of the German Central Uplands it is considered one of the four sub-units of the Middle Palatinate Forest.

The Hardenburg on the eastern edge of the Palatinate Forest near the Rhineland-Palatinate town of Bad Dürkheim is even as a ruin one of the mightiest castles of Palatinate.

The Teufelsstein in the Haardt mountains, near the Palatine county town of Bad Dürkheim in the German state of Rhineland-Palatinate, is a hill 317 m above sea level (NN). On its domed summit is a monolith of the same name (which means "Devil's Rock"). Traces of human activity on the rock indicate that it acted as a cult object in former times.

The Ungeheuersee in the Palatinate Forest of Germany is a raised bog pond surrounded by mixed forest, which is located about three kilometres west-southwest of the village of Weisenheim am Berg. Because the lake is part of the only raised bog in the Palatinate Forest and is important for the species-rich flora along its shore and on its floating island (including cotton grasses and orchids), it was placed under protection in the 1930s as a natural monument. The lake is fed from two springs; its tail waters form the Krumbach. The Krumbach valley is designated as a protected landscape as far as the edge of the Haardt uplands. The Ungeheuersee was laid out towards the end of the Middle Ages or Early Modern Period as a drinking pool for cattle. It was first mentioned in the records in 1599. The name has nothing to do with the German word Ungeheuer ("monster") but is derived from the words Unger for wood pasture and Heyer for enclosure.According to one legend, no one ventured near the lake when it was still unmanaged and boggy. There were tales of forest spirits that walked abroad around midnight. A forest woman was supposed to live by the lake who robbed many a child.Another legend reports that before the village of Weisenheim am Berg was raided during the Thirty Years’ War, the villagers sank the valuable bells from the church tower in the Ungeheuersee in order to hide them. The village was then razed and all those who knew of the sunken bells disappeared. The bells were never found again. The monks of Höningen Abbey also sank their silver bells in the lake for security, but these, too, remain lost.On the shore of the Ungeheuersee is the Weisenheimer Hut (also called the Ungeheuersee Hut) belonging to the Palatinate Forest Club, which is open at weekends and is a popular destination. In recent years, intensive touristic use of the reservoir has led serious damage of the natural monument.

The Palatinate Museum of Natural History (German: Pfalzmuseum für Naturkunde – Pollichia-Museum) is a natural history museum in the Anterior Palatinate county town of Bad Dürkheim in the German state of Rhineland-Palatinate. There is also a branch of the Palatinate museum, the GEOSCOPE Prehistoric Museum (GEOSKOP Urweltmuseum) at Lichtenberg Castle near the West Palatine county town of Kusel. Both establishments are run by the Palatinate District Association (Bezirksverband Pfalz), the town of Bad Dürkheim and the counties of Bad Dürkheim and Kusel.

Limburg Abbey is a ruined abbey near Bad Dürkheim, at the edge of the Palatinate Forest in Germany. In the 9th century, the Salian Dukes from Worms built a fortress on the Linthberg as their family seat.

The Heidenmauer ("heathen wall") near the Palatine county town of Bad Dürkheim in the German state of Rhineland-Palatinate is a circular rampart or ringwork, two and a half kilometres long, which was built by the Celts around 500 B. C. as a type of Murus Gallicus but was pulled down again not long afterwards. The wooden elements of the wall have disappeared over the course of time by rotting away, but the stones have survived. The Heidenmauer is a cultural monument according to the protected monument act of Rhineland-Palatinate.

The Kriemhildenstuhl, more rarely Krimhildenstuhl (short i), in the forests around the Palatine county town of Bad Dürkheim in the German state of Rhineland-Palatinate, is an old Roman quarry, which was worked by the 22nd Legion of the Roman Army, who were stationed in Mogontiacum (Mainz) around 200 A. D.The site has been designated as an area monument (Denkmalzone) and is owned by the Drachenfels Club.

The Bad Dürkheim lift (German: Bad Dürkheimer Gondelbahn) was a gondola lift located in Bad Dürkheim (in the German state of Rhineland-Palatinate). From 1973 on, it linked the Wurstmarkt in the city centre with the Teufelsstein in the Haardt Mountains, situated to the northwest of the lower station. Set down on eight pillars, the cableway bridged a distance of 1,270 metres at a height difference of 165 metres, featuring 43 small cabins. Service on the gondola lift was abandoned in 1981, when some residents denied the right to let their estates be crossed. The owner acquired new easements in 1999, theoretically allowing for the cable car to run again. However, the summit station and a large number of cabins burnt out in a 2000 arson attack. As a result of the arson, the pillars were removed in 2005. In December 2006, the state of Rhineland-Palatinate approved the reconstruction of the system. The current owner expected it to be fully operational by 2008.
