The serious Hotel Caledonien fire took place at the 12-story Hotel Caledonien in Kristiansand, Norway, on September 5, 1986. The fire alarm was received at 04:40 in the morning. There were 14 fatalities, and more than 100 people were rescued. Rescue operations included a helicopter lifting persons off the roof and off upper story windows stories. The rescue work was difficult. The development of smoke meant that none of the hotel guests managed to get out through the escape routes inside the hotel, and they therefore had to be rescued through the windows. The fire brigade's ladders did not reach the upper floors, and several people therefore had to be rescued with the help of a helicopter. A total of 86 people stayed in this part of the hotel. Of these, 70 were brought out alive via fire brigade ladders, mobile cranes or helicopters, while 2 saved their lives by jumping from windows. The windows in the guest rooms could not be opened because the handles had been removed, and many of the guests therefore broke the windows to get fresh air, before they were rescued. All those who died died of smoke poisoning. Hotel Caledonien was rebuilt after the fire.

Fiskebrygga (English: The Fish Wharf) is a former fish landing in the city of Kristiansand in Agder county, Norway. The buildings have been redeveloped as a restaurant, shopping area, and tourist destination. The former fish landing extends along both sides of Gravane Canal, the canal that separates the town centre, Kvadraturen, from the island of Odderøya. It was extensively reconstructed in the 1990s, with wood-fronted buildings in an old-fashioned style similar to the warehouses, painted yellow ochre and red, as well as housing, shops, and a number of restaurants. There are wooden piers on both sides of Gravane Canal, where there is a bustling boat traffic in summer, and bridges over the canal give the area an almost Venetian look. The area has since experienced a renaissance. The Fish Market at Fiskebrygga is one of the city's tourist attractions, selling all kinds of Norwegian fish and shellfish, including some live. Kirkens Bymisjon (The Church of Norway's City Mission) has its "Wharf Chapel", along with a café and bike repair shop "the pedal" on Fiskebrygga.

Kilden Teater is a Norwegian theatre based in Kristiansand. It was established in 1991, and has been the regional theatre for Agder since 1995. It was earlier named Agder Teater, but changed its name after moving in to the new Kilden Performing Arts Centre. Its first theatre director was Bentein Baardson, who led the theatre from 1991 to 1994. Alex Scherpf has been theatre director since 2005.

Punkt International Music Festival or Punktfestivalen has been held every year in Kristiansand, Norway since 2005.

Kristiansand Bus Terminal (Kristiansand Rutebilstasjon) is the main bus terminal serving Kristiansand, Norway. It has bus lines to many places, including Oslo and Stavanger. The bus terminal is located next to Kristiansand Station and the city harbor. It was built between 1960 and 1965.

Kilden Performing Arts Centre (in Norwegian: Kilden teater og konserthus) is a theater and concert hall on Odderøya in Kristiansand, Norway. It houses Kilden Teater, Kristiansand Symphony Orchestra (KSO) and Opera Sør in a joint project never previously embarked upon. There is room for a variety of concerts and other forms of cultural expression.

Kristiansand Station (Norwegian: Kristiansand stasjon) (IATA: XKR) is a railway station located in downtown Kristiansand in Agder county, Norway. The station, located along the Sørlandet Line, is served by regional trains to Oslo and Stavanger. Kristiansand Station is a cul-de-sac station, requiring all trains to change direction at the station. The station is owned by the state-owned company Bane NOR.

Kristiansand Cathedral (Norwegian: Kristiansand domkirke) is a cathedral of the Church of Norway in Kristiansand Municipality in Agder county, Norway. It is located in the Kvadraturen area in the central part of the city of Kristiansand. It is the church for the Kristiansand domkirken parish which is the seat of the Kristiansand domprosti (arch-deanery) in the Diocese of Agder og Telemark. The cathedral is also the seat of the Bishop of Agder and Telemark. The gray, brick church was built in a Neo-Gothic cruciform design in 1885 using plans drawn up by the architect Henrik Thrap-Meyer. The church seats about 1,000 people, making it one of the largest cathedrals in Norway. This cathedral is the fourth church and third cathedral to be located on this site over the centuries.

The Southern Norway Art Museum (Norwegian: Sørlandets Kunstmuseum) is located in Kristiansand, Norway in the building that until 1970 hosted the Kristiansand Cathedral School. The museum is a foundation, and it was created in 1995, with the counties of Aust-Agder and Vest-Agder as initiators together with the municipality of Kristiansand and the Kristiansand Art Gallery. The museum is working with both art and crafts. The foundation will work to create interest, awareness and competence in relation to the visual arts, crafts and other visual forms of expression. The museum runs extensive art-related activities, that includes exhibits of the permanent collection, temporary contemporary art exhibitions and traveling exhibitions to schools and preschools.

St. Ansgar's Church is a parish church of the Roman Catholic Church in Kristiansand, Norway. It is the only Roman Catholic church building in Agder county in Southern Norway. The first church was built in 1936. The current church building is built of red bricks and expanded, after total restoration after the first, whitewashed church burned in the 1980s. In addition to church services in Norwegian, it has a Mass in English every Sunday afternoon at 6 p.m.

Kvadraturen is a borough in the city centre of the city of Kristiansand which lies in the municipality of Kristiansand in Agder county, Norway. It has a population of 6,750 (2015). The borough is made up of the centre together with the harbour to the south and the more rural district of "Eg" to the north. Kvadraturen is the administrative centre of the municipality of Kristiansand as well as the administrative centre of Vest-Agder county, but is far smaller in area than the other boroughs in the municipality, such as the borough of Grim to the north and west, and the borough of Lund to the east. Kvadraturen is the location of the Kristiansand Cathedral and the nearby commercial, pedestrian street is Markens gate. The city harbour is located along the Kristiansandsfjorden and the island of Odderøya. The borough has three malls and three high schools. The closest public junior high is "Grim Skole" and the closest elementary is Tordenskjoldsgate Skole and is the only remanding elementary in Kvadraturen. The Sørlandet Hospital Kristiansand is also located in the borough, in the district of Eg. The main city centre was established as a city on 5 July 1641 by King Christian IV. The city became a self-governing municipality under the formannskapsdistrikt law on 1 January 1838. On 1 July 1921, a neighboring part of the municipality of Oddernes (population: 2,164) was transferred from Oddernes to the city of Kristiansand. During the 1960s, there were many municipal mergers across Norway due to the work of the Schei Committee. On 1 January 1965, the city of Kristiansand (population: 27,100) was merged with the neighboring municipalities of Randesund (population: 1,672), Oddernes (population: 18,668), and Tveit (population: 2,802) to form a new, larger municipality of Kristiansand.

Kristiansand Boardwalk (Norwegian: Strandpromenaden) is a street in the town centre Kvadraturen in Kristiansand, Norway. The street is in most of its course closed to the passage of motor vehicles, but operates in the tourist season in connection with sightseeing. From where the street Strandpromenaden ends in the eastern corner of the town centre, there is a continuing boardwalk upwards the river Otra. The boardwalk got the Nordic Green Space Award in 2013.
