Biograph Theater

Victory Gardens Theater is a theater company in Chicago, Illinois dedicated to the development and production of new plays and playwrights. The theater company was founded in 1974 when eight Chicago artists, Cecil O'Neal, Warren Casey, Stuart Gordon, Cordis Heard, Roberta Maguire, Mac McGuinnes, June Pyskaček, and David Rasche each fronted $1,000 to start a company outside the Chicago Loop and Gordon donated the light board of his Organic Theater Company. The theater's first production, The Velvet Rose, by Stacy Myatt premiered on October 9, 1974.

The Lounge Ax was a music venue in the Lincoln Park neighborhood of Chicago, located across the street from Wax Trax. It was an important venue for live rock music, especially indie rock. The club was opened in 1987 by Jennifer Fischer and Julia Adams, who were joined around September 1989 by Sue Miller, previously the booker at two other Chicago clubs, West End and the Cubby Bear. For most of the club's existence, it was owned by Adams and Miller. The band Phish played their first performance ever in the state of Illinois at Lounge Ax on March 30, 1990. Miller married her husband, musician Jeff Tweedy, at the Lounge Ax in August 1995. The ceremony was conducted by a waitress at the club named Lana Levins, who was also an ordained minister. In 1996, Touch & Go Records released a compilation album to benefit the club, titled The Lounge Ax Defense & Relocation Compact Disc, featuring artists such as Guided by Voices, The Jesus Lizard, Sebadoh, Tortoise, The Coctails and Yo La Tengo.Lounge Ax was featured prominently in the Chicago-based movie High Fidelity, released in 2000. The club served as the site where John Cusack's character, Rob Gordon, and the staff from Championship Vinyl first encounter Marie DeSalle, played by Lisa Bonet. Its location across from the Biograph Theater plays an important part in the dialogue leading up to the Lounge Ax scenes. On January 15, 2000, the final show at Lounge Ax was headlined by The Coctails (who reunited for the occasion), with Dianogah and M.O.T.O. opening.

2424 North Lincoln Avenue is a building in Lincoln Park, Chicago adjacent to the Biograph Theater. From 1912 to 2006, it variously housed the Fullerton Theater, an auto garage, the Crest Theater, and the 3-Penny Cinema. Since 2009 it has been Lincoln Hall, a music venue.

The McCormick Row House District is a group of houses located in the Lincoln Park community area in Chicago, Illinois, USA. It sits between East and West parts of DePaul University's Lincoln Park Campus and is independent from the school. They were built between 1884 and 1889 and used by the McCormick Theological Seminary to gain rental income. They were designed in the Queen Anne Style by the A. M. F. Colton and Son architects and joined the list of Chicago Landmarks May 4, 1971. The McCormick Row House District also lies within the boundaries of the Sheffield Historic District.In 1973, the McCormick Theological Seminary made the decision to affiliate with the theological seminaries connected with the University of Chicago. In 1974, several McCormick Row House tenants formed the Seminary Townhouse Association and found buyers for all of the seminary's residential units. McCormick Row Houses are now owned by individual owners, with covenants protecting the treatment and maintenance of building exteriors and public areas such as the McCormick Row House private park.

Lincoln Avenue is a street of the north side of city of Chicago. It runs from Clark Street (itself a diagonal) on the western border of Lincoln Park largely to the northwest, ending in Morton Grove, Illinois. It leaves the city limits of Chicago at Devon Avenue, through the village of Lincolnwood, curves through the village of Skokie and ends at Dempster Street in Morton Grove. In total distance it is about 13 miles (21 km) long, although it is not completely continuous. Between Foster Avenue and Skokie Boulevard U.S. Route 41 runs on Lincoln Avenue. Most of Lincoln Avenue is zoned commercial, and is lined by shops, restaurants and other establishments. It is the site of the yearly Taste of Lincoln Avenue, held between Fullerton Avenue and Wrightwood Avenue. It is also the site of the Maifest and German American Fest in Lincoln Square.

Kingston Mines is a blues nightclub in Lincoln Park, Chicago, Illinois. The club derived its name from the Kingston Mines Theatre Company founded by June Pyskacek in 1969 and located at 2356 N. Lincoln Av. The theatre was named after the Illinois town where the father of one of its actors, Jack Wallace, worked. Pyskacek allowed Harry Hoch and a partner to use the Kingston Mines name for a small eatery/café in the front of the building. Called the Kingston Mines Company Store, it was acquired circa 1972 by Lenin "Doc" Pellegrino, M.D., and renamed the Kingston Mines Café. Although the original production of Grease was written and first premiered at the Kingston Mines Theatre in 1971 before moving to Broadway a year later, the theatre company expired in the spring of 1973 while the Café, which was a separate legal entity from the theatre, survived as a blues club. It was that entity that moved to its current location at 2548 N. Halsted in 1982.Kingston Mines showcases a variety of blues by two separate bands, every night, on two stages, 365 days a year; from delta blues to Chicago blues. Their featured bands/artists cover a broad and diverse spectrum of the genre. Kingston Mines is still owned by the Pellegrino family and it is "the oldest, continuously operating blues club in Chicago." Blues legends such as Koko Taylor, Carl Weathersby, and Magic Slim have played there; among a myriad more. The Kingston Mines has two alternating "headline" performances on its two stages into the early morning, every night. Carl Weathersby, Linsey Alexander, Eddie Shaw, Mike Wheeler, Peaches Staten, Joanna Connor, and Ronnie Hicks are regular performers.The club was awarded the "Keeping the Blues Alive Award for Blues Clubs" by the Blues Foundation in 2014.

Fullerton is an 'L' station on the CTA's Red and Brown Lines. Purple Line Express trains also stop at the station during weekday rush hours. It is an elevated station with two island platforms, serving four tracks, located in the Lincoln Park neighborhood in Chicago, Illinois. Brown and Purple Line trains share the outer tracks while Red Line trains run on the inner tracks. As well as being an important transfer station, the station serves the Lincoln Park Campus of DePaul University.

The Greenhouse Theater Center is a professional, non-profit theater located in the heart of Chicago's Lincoln Park. The Greenhouse Theater Center hosts multiple Off-Loop theater companies, including Eclipse Theatre Company, Hubris Productions, MPAACT, Organic Theatre Company, Remy Bumppo Theatre Company, The Magic Cabaret, and Theater Seven Of Chicago.

On June 29, 2003, the deadliest porch collapse in United States history occurred in Chicago.An overloaded balcony collapsed during a party in an apartment building, killing thirteen people and seriously injuring fifty-seven others. The ensuing investigation was highly critical of the way the balcony was built, finding a large number of errors in its construction which ultimately resulted in the collapse. However, the building's owner, LG Properties, and its president, Philip Pappas, continues to blame overcrowding on the balcony for its complete structural failure, although he has taken steps to strengthen the balconies at other properties to prevent a recurrence of the disaster.The accident resulted in sweeping inspections of similar structures across Chicago, with 1,260 cases being acted on by the city authorities.

Wrightwood was a station on the Chicago Transit Authority's North Side Main Line, which is now part of the Brown Line. The station was located at Wrightwood Avenue, Lincoln Avenue, and Sheffield Avenue in the Lincoln Park neighborhood of Chicago. Wrightwood was situated south of Diversey and north of Fullerton. Wrightwood opened on May 31, 1900, and closed on August 1, 1949, along with 22 other stations as part of a CTA service revision.

The Sullivan Athletic Center is an athletic facility on the campus of DePaul University in Chicago, Illinois. The facility houses McGrath-Phillips Arena, a 3,000-seat multi-purpose arena. It is the home arena for the women's volleyball team and part-time home for the women's basketball team. The facility also serves as the practice facility for the men's basketball team.
