Horseshoe Lake Mound and Village Site

The Mitchell Archaeological Site is a pre-Columbian archaeological site located at the western end of University Drive in Mitchell, Illinois. The site includes a platform mound and the remains of a village; while it once included several other mounds, they have been destroyed by modern activity. Mississippian peoples inhabited the site c. 1150–1200. The site is affiliated with the Cahokia settlement system and was the largest site in the system except for Cahokia itself. However, the majority of the site was destroyed by the construction of Interstate 270; known information about the site mainly comes from salvage excavations conducted before the highway was built.The site was added to the National Register of Historic Places on February 7, 1978.

Nameoki Township is located in Madison County, Illinois, in the United States. As of the 2010 census, its population was 12,685 and it contained 5,352 housing units.

Horseshoe Lake, a National Natural Landmark, is located in the American Bottom of Illinois within the greater St. Louis metropolitan area, is 2,400 acres (10 km2) in size, and is the second-largest natural lake in Illinois after Lake Michigan. An oxbow lake which is a remnant of a Mississippi River meander, the lake's elevation is 403 feet (123 m) above sea level. The lake is the site of Horseshoe Lake State Park, which is 2,960 acres (12 km2) in size. The lake is bordered by the towns of Madison and Granite City. The lake is located within Nameoki Township, about four miles east of St. Louis, Missouri. The lake is very shallow, about three feet (1 m) deep throughout most of the lake, but there is one deep spot, about 54.5 feet (16 m) deep, due to dredging for sand in years past. The lake is annually drained in part to provide habitat for shorebirds. At least 287 bird species have been found at this lake, which includes most of the species found statewide. Canada geese winter here, as well as bald eagles. Other prominent birds include the mallard duck, snowy egret and little blue heron, and the Eurasian tree sparrow, limited to this region in North America. Fish species include bluegill, sunfish, shortnose gar, spotted gar, crappie, largemouth bass and channel catfish. The western part of the lake is industrialized, dominated by the Granite City Works facility of the United States Steel Corporation.

Pontoon Beach is a village in Madison County, Illinois, United States. The population was 5,876 at the 2020 census. It is part of the St. Louis metropolitan area.

KMOX (1120 AM) is a commercial radio station in St. Louis, Missouri. Owned by Audacy, Inc., it is a 50,000 watt Class A clear-channel station with a non-directional signal. The KMOX studios and offices are on Olive Street at Tucker Boulevard in the Park Pacific Building in St. Louis. KMOX refers to itself as "NewsRadio 1120 - The Voice of St. Louis". It is considered the first U.S. station to program all talk shows around the clock. KMOX's transmitter is located off Route 162 in Pontoon Beach, Illinois. With a good radio, KMOX's nighttime signal can be heard across most of the United States and into Mexico and Canada. However, it is strongest in the Central United States. Its daytime signal provides at least secondary coverage to most of Eastern Missouri and much of Southern Illinois. The station is also heard on KEZK's HD2 subchannel and translator 98.7 K254CR. Along with WIL-FM, KMOX is responsible for the activation of the Greater St. Louis Emergency Alert System for hazardous weather, disaster declarations, etc., and is the EAS primary entry point for eastern Missouri and southern Illinois.

FC Adrenaline is an American professional indoor soccer team, founded in 2007. The team played in the Premier Arena Soccer League from 2007–2010 as "Piasa FC". The club moved to the Professional Arena Soccer League (PASL) in 2010 as "Illinois Piasa" under head coach Jerry Lakin.They originally played their home matches at the Soccer for Fun Arena in Granite City, Illinois. From 2011 through 2013, Piasa played their home games at The Sports Academy in Glen Carbon, Illinois. In July 2013, the Piasa announced that they would play the 2013–14 PASL season at The Field Sports Complex in Pontoon Beach, Illinois.On July 22, 2013, the team announced that head coach Jason Norsic had resigned to pursue personal and family commitments. Doug Montroy was named as his replacement. On January 11, 2014, the team "parted ways" with Montroy and assistant coach Ed Rulo was named interim head coach for the remainder of the 2013–14 season.In April 2014, The Field Sports Complex acquired all properties related to Illinois Piasa. The club will be an affiliate of St. Louis FC. TFSC announced the rebranding of the club as FC Adrenaline in August 2014. The club will compete in the Premier Arena Soccer League during the 2014–15 season.

Horseshoe Lake State Park is an Illinois state park in Madison County, Illinois, United States. It is approximately 2,960 acres (1,198 ha) and surrounds a large horseshoe-shaped lake called Horseshoe Lake. Horseshoe Lake is the second largest natural lake in Illinois taking up approximately 2,400 acres (971 ha) of the 2,960-acre (1,198 ha) park. The park has connections to Madison County Transit's Schoolhouse Trail, which connects to over 85 miles (137 km) of bike trail in Madison County, and even a trail which goes all of the way to downtown St. Louis after crossing the Mississippi River on the Chain of Rocks Bridge. The park is located in southeastern Granite City, Illinois, just a 10-mile (16 km) drive northeast of downtown St. Louis.

Collinsville Soccer Complex, also known as The Fields was a planned soccer-centered development to be located in Collinsville, Illinois, United States. The centerpiece of the complex was an 18,500-seat soccer-specific stadium that would have been the home stadium for professional soccer clubs in MLS and WPS based in the St. Louis area. The plan also included eight FIFA-approved artificial turf fields, as well as mixed-use development, which included retail, office, entertainment, educational, and residential areas. The entire development was valued at almost $600 million.The proposed stadium location was roughly ten minutes away from downtown St. Louis, by the I-255/I-70/I-55 interchange. All plans to begin construction had been in place, and the city of Collinsville had approved the project. Construction never began because MLS never awarded a franchise to St. Louis Soccer United (AC St. Louis), the ownership group that had spearheaded the professional soccer effort in St. Louis; although the city of Collinsville had approved of the plans, construction was not approved until a MLS team was guaranteed. Also, there were several homeowners who had not yet sold their property. As such, Saint Louis Athletica, the area's WPS team, began the league's first season in 2009 at Ralph Korte Stadium in Edwardsville, Illinois, but moved across the Mississippi River during the season to the Anheuser-Busch Center in Fenton, Missouri. Eventually St. Louis was awarded a Major League Soccer team but to a different ownership in a different location. On August 20, 2019, Major League Soccer announced it had approved St. Louis as the league's 28th franchise and St. Louis City SC is expected to join in the 2023 season. The ownership is led by the Taylor family, founders of St. Louis based Enterprise Rent-A-Car, and Jim Kavanaugh, CEO of St Louis based World Wide Technology and Saint Louis FC owner and the team will play at a Soccer-Specific Stadium next to Union Station. in downtown St. Louis.

The Emmert-Zippel House is a historic house located at 3279 Maryville Road in Granite City, Illinois. William Emmert built the house in 1837. He married the following year. Then, he and his family lived in the house. At the time, the house was located in a rural setting in Granite City, which was then known as Six Mile due to its distance from St. Louis. The house is a five-bay I-house, a housing style named for its popularity in Illinois, Indiana, and Iowa. I-houses, including the Emmert-Zippel House, were two-story structures with two rooms on each floor connected by a central hall and staircase. Emmert lived in the house until 1881, and his family sold the house to August and Elizabeth Zippel in 1884. The Zippel family lived in the house until 1984, when the Old Six Mile Historical Society bought the house and made it a museum, known as the Old Six Mile Museum.The house was added to the National Register of Historic Places on May 2, 1996.

State Park Place is an unincorporated community in Madison and St. Clair counties, Illinois, United States. State Park Place borders Collinsville to the east and Cahokia Mounds State Historic Site to the west.

Fairmount Park Racetrack is a horse racing track in Collinsville, Illinois, a part of the St. Louis metropolitan area. The track hosts Thoroughbred flat racing. It is one of two horse racing venues currently active in Illinois, and the only one outside the Chicago, Illinois metro area. The track also featured Standardbred harness racing, but discontinued it in 1999. The track opened in 1925. The racing surface is a one-mile (1.6 km) dirt oval, with straight chutes for six furlong and 1¼ mile races. Ogden Corporation bought the track in 1969. In 2000, Ogden sold the track to Bill Stiritz, then the chairman of Ralston Purina.Fairmount Park offers simulcast wagering from tracks throughout the country. It also operates four off-track betting facilities in Alton, Carbondale, Springfield and Sauget, Illinois; a fifth OTB facility in Grayville, Illinois closed in early 2007. As recently as 1997, Fairmount Park offered as many as 232 live racing days per year. But in recent years, the track has suffered greatly with the advent of riverboat casinos in the St. Louis metropolitan area. Racing dates have declined to 90 per year, on Tuesdays, Fridays and Saturdays. In 2007, track management announced a plan to build a 20,000-seat amphitheater at the track and expand live racing (including the reinstatement of harness racing), pending approval by state lawmakers to allow slot machines to be installed, similar to racinos in nearby locations. When the legislature did not approve slots in its regular session, Fairmount management applied to the Illinois Racing Board for 90 days of live racing, but said that if lawmakers did not approve relief for horse tracks in its November veto session, the track would only run 60 days, citing declining attendance and betting handle, competition from casinos, and overpayment of the horsemen's account for purses. The track's general manager claimed that purses at the track were less than half that of similar tracks in neighboring Kentucky and Indiana.
