Knutsford Hotel

The Cramer House is a historic house at 241 Floral Street in Salt Lake City, Utah. It was built in 1890 by Christopher Cramer, an immigrant from Denmark who became a florist. His house was also his flower store until he sold it in 1897. It has been listed on the National Register of Historic Places since August 17, 1982.It was deemed significant "as one of only two single family residences remaining in the downtown area. It documents not only the probable presence at an earlier time of other single family residential architecture in the area, but also the combination of homey residence and business in one structure in the business district."

The Salt Lake Stock and Mining Exchange Building in Salt Lake City, Utah, is a 2-story Classical Revival building designed by John C. Craig and constructed in 1909. The sandstone, brick, and cement building includes four large Ionic columns supporting a pediment above a denticulated cornice, and the pedimental imagery is reflected in lintels above the six central door and window fenestrations. The building was added to the National Register of Historic Places in 1976. It is also a contributing resource in the Exchange Place Historic District. The Salt Lake Stock and Mining Exchange Building was constructed on a site donated by Samuel Newhouse in 1908. Newhouse intended to develop a major financial center that would rival other exchanges in larger cities, and some members of the Salt Lake financial community did not support a shift from the 19th century roots of the exchange. During construction of the new exchange building, a competing exchange was organized and operated briefly in the Atlas Block (demolished) under the name, Utah Stock and Mining Exchange. The Salt Lake Stock and Mining Exchange occupied its new building from 1909 until the exchange became defunct in 1986. In 1972 the exchange was renamed the Intermountain Stock Exchange.

It features a boulder on top of a column which splits into two legs, and functions as a sundial. The artwork was surveyed by the Smithsonian Institution's "Save Outdoor Sculpture!" program in 1993.

The Exchange Place Historic District in Downtown Salt Lake City, Utah, United States is a historic district that was listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 1978. It included ten contributing buildings and three non-contributing buildings on a 6.2-acre (2.5 ha) area, with significance dating to 1903.Its oldest building in the NRHP nomination was the Federal Building and Post Office, which had been built during 1903–06. That building was renamed in 1990 as the Frank E. Moss United States Courthouse.In addition, the original nomination for the NRHP included the Felt Building (1909), Newhouse Realty Building (1917), Boston and Newhouse Buildings (1910), Federal Building and Post Office (1906), Salt Lake Stock and Mining Exchange Building (1908), Commercial Club Building (1908), New Grand Hotel (1910), Hotel Plandome (1905), and the now-demolished Hotel Newhouse (1912). The Sullivanesque Felt Building was designed by Richard K.A. Kletting, who designed many buildings around Salt Lake City such as the McIntyre Building farther north on Main Street and the Utah State Capitol. Other buildings included in the district boundaries today include the New York Hotel (1906), which today houses Market Street Grill, and the Judge Building (1907).

The Karrick Block in Salt Lake City, Utah, is a 3-story, brick and stone commercial building designed by Richard K.A. Kletting and constructed in 1887. The building is Kletting's earliest work to survive in the city, and it was added to the National Register of Historic Places in 1976. Architectural historian Allan D. Roberts described the building as "essentially a Victorian work."During construction the Karrick Block was known as Karrick's White Elephant, a name borrowed from the adjacent White Elephant Saloon, when it was discovered that the saloon overlapped Karrick's property by several inches. Roberts & Nelden pharmacy was an early tenant of the building, and the building housed eight prostitutes.Lewis C. Karrick owned mining and mercantile interests, and he served on the city council in the 1880s. After he lost his fortune to bad investments, his wife, Sarah (Ellerbeck) Karrick, filed for divorce in 1904. Karrick died of a self inflicted gunshot wound in 1905. His son, Lewis C. Karrick, Jr., became a petroleum engineer who developed a mineral extraction technique known as the Karrick process. The Karrick Block was covered in a Utah State information form of 1979.

Felt Electric, at 165 S. Regent St. in Salt Lake City, Utah, was built in 1893. It was listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 1982. According to historian John McCormick,This building is significant as one of three remaining buildings that once were houses of prostitution on the street that was Salt Lake City's red-light district from about 1880 until the late 1930s. As such, it is deeply woven into the fabric of the community and documents much about the social and political history of Salt Lake. / The building was constructed in 1893 for Gustave S. Holmes. A prominent Salt Lake City businessman, he owned the fashionable Knutsford Hotel, was a director of the National Bank of the Republic, had extensive mining interests, and in 1909 was reported to be the 5th or 6th largest taxpayer in Salt Lake County. From the time it was built until at least the late teens the upper floor of the building housed a brothel, while a legitimate business, the Leader Cigar factory, occupied the ground floor.

The building features a glazed terracotta facade associated with the Second Renaissance Revival style.Virtue (Butcher) Clift (March 20, 1837-October 23, 1925) constructed the Clift Building in honor of her late husband, Francis D. Clift (December 7, 1832-December 21, 1913). The Clifts owned real estate in Salt Lake City, and they had operated a residential hotel, the Clift House, at the future site of the Clift Building.Francis D. Clift was an 1851 pioneer, opening a mercantile business on Main Street and later investing in the Emma Silver Mine.
