Ockham, Surrey

Wisley Airfield is a former wartime airfield located in the Parish of Ockham near Wisley in Surrey, England. Originally a grass airstrip, the runway was converted to tarmac in 1952 and used to test aircraft built at Weybridge by Vickers. Flying ceased in 1973 because the runway was too short for large aircraft and was too close to Heathrow. All the structures on the site were removed, except for the runway, and the land was sold back to its principal former owner in 1980 for agricultural use.

The Church of All Saints, usually known as All Saints' Church, is an Anglican church in Ockham, England. It is the parish church of Ockham with Hatchford and Downside. Due to its architectural significance, the church is a Grade I* listed building.

Ockham Park is a seventeenth-century English country house in Ockham, Surrey. The house is a square two-storey block in red brick with 7 bays on each side with a hipped tiled roof. The nearby two-storey stable block is grade II* listed and is now converted into flats.

RHS Garden Wisley is a garden run by the Royal Horticultural Society in Wisley, Surrey, south of London. It is one of five gardens run by the society, the others being Harlow Carr, Hyde Hall, Rosemoor, and Bridgewater (which opened on 18 May 2021). Wisley is the second most visited paid entry garden in the United Kingdom after the Royal Botanic Gardens, Kew, with 1,232,772 visitors in 2019.

Ockham and Wisley Commons is a 266-hectare (660-acre) biological Site of Special Scientific Interest east of Woking in Surrey. It is also a Local Nature Reserve and part of the Thames Basin Heaths Special Protection Area. It is part of the slightly larger area of 297-hectare (730-acre) Wisley & Ockham Commons & Chatley Heath nature reserve, which is owned by Surrey County Council and managed by the Surrey Wildlife Trust.This site is mainly heathland but it also has areas of open water, bog, woodland and scrub. It has a rich flora and it is of national importance for true flies and for dragonflies and damselflies. Rare species include the white-faced darter dragonfly and the Thyridanthrax fenestratus bee fly.There is public access to the site.

Ripley is a village and civil parish in Surrey, England. It is centred 6.2 miles (10.0 km) southeast of Woking, 6.8 miles (10.9 km) northeast of Guildford and 22.5 miles (36.2 km) southwest of London. Neighbouring villages Send and Send Marsh to the South-West and Ockham to the East have fewer shopping facilities.

Chatley Heath is part of 336 hectare reserve including Wisley Common, Ockham and parts of Hatchford. It is an area with a mixed habitats including heathland, ancient woodland and conifer woodland. On the top of Chatley heath (formerly known as Breach Hill) is a tower built as part of the Royal Navy Semaphore line. The octagonal tower was built as part of the Admiralty semaphore chain which operated between 1822 and 1847. It is the best preserved remaining tower and has a working semaphore mast. It is 60 feet (18 m) high with five storeys topped by a parapet built of red brick. It was occupied until 1963, when it was condemned as unfit because of lack of services. It then suffered vandalism and was damaged by fire in 1984. Surrey County Council and the Surrey Historic Buildings Trust restored the tower to mark the centenary of the County Council. However the condition of tower has more recently deteriorated, and it is again undergoing restoration, this time by the Landmark Trust who are converting it into self-catering holiday accommodation. There will be public access on certain days when the restoration is complete.Its mid-long-distance access is the first exit immediately southwest of the Wisley Interchange of the A3, after meeting the M25 there. A roundabout at the interchange enables access from the Guildford direction. Local alternative access can also be obtained via East Clandon, East Horsley or Cobham.

Wisley is a village and civil parish in Surrey, England between Cobham and Woking, in the Borough of Guildford. It is the home of the Royal Horticultural Society's Wisley Garden. The River Wey runs through the village and Ockham and Wisley Commons form a large proportion of the parish on a high acid heathland, which is a rare soil type providing for its own types of habitat. It has a standard weather monitoring station, which has recorded some national record high temperatures.

The Wisley Golf Club is a golf club in Wisley in Surrey, England. The club is only open to members and their guests.The club has 700 members, each of whom own a single share in the club. The club is owned entirely by its members. Proposed members must pass a 'playing interview' with the club's Chief Executive, Director of Membership or Director of Golf.Golf Monthly magazine listed the club as one of the '10 Most Exclusive Golf Clubs In the UK' writing that the club "has some great practice facilities" and is "home to a number of high-profile golfers and celebrities". The golfer Francesco Molinari practised at Wisley before his move to the United States.The club has three nine-hole loops, named The Church, The Mill and The Garden, which GQ describes as "offer[ing] those fortunate enough to belong, a varied and invariably pristine facility". The course was designed by Robert Trent Jones Jr and opened in 1991.

Manor Farm is a 25-hectare (62-acre) nature reserve in Byfleet, Surrey. It is owned and managed by the Surrey Wildlife Trust.In the seventeenth century, the area was part of a deer park and in the Second World War the wet meadows next to the River Wey were ploughed as part of the Dig for Victory campaign. The site was then a market garden until 2006.The Trust acquired Manor Farm in 2009 and introduced cattle to graze the land to increase biodiversity in the same year. It was officially opened on 29 May 2010 and the Woking News and Mail reported the same month that skylarks, pied wagtails, linnets and roe deer were already visiting the site. An artificial otter holt was constructed by the Wey in the first year of the trust's ownership. Among the species recorded in a 2011 survey of the wet meadows next to the river were: the nationally scarce dotted fan-foot moth (thought to have been absent from Surrey for the previous 14 years); Baryphyma pratense (a money spider not previously recorded in the county); a species of rove beetle.At the end of 2010, the trust was awarded £20k in grants by Biffaward and the Veolia Environmental Trust to create new hedgerows and construct a new bird hide. A £1M conservation project, funded by Shepperton Studios began in February 2023. The 30-year scheme will provide a habitat for plant species that thrive in low-nutrient soils, including orchids and other wildflowers.There is access to footpaths only apart from a dog exercise area.

Foxwarren Park, at Wisley in Surrey, is a Victorian country house and estate. On sandstone Ockham and Wisley Commons, it was designed in 1860 by the railway architect Frederick Barnes for brewing magnate and MP, Charles Buxton. It is a Grade II* listed building. From 1919 to 1955, it was owned by Alfred Ezra who was President of the Avicultural Society — he assembled a collection of rare birds and animals on the estate — in 1939 it housed the last known pink-headed ducks in the world. It was then owned by Hannah Weinstein and chosen for films and television series including The Adventures of Robin Hood.

Horsley railway station is located in the village of East Horsley in Surrey, England. It is 22 miles 16 chains (35.7 km) down the line from London Waterloo, and also serves the village of West Horsley, as well as the nearby villages of Ockham and Ripley. The station is managed by South Western Railway, who provide the majority of train services; Southern also provide some peak period services. It is situated on the New Guildford Line between London (to the northeast) and Guildford (to the southwest) via Cobham, although some trains operate via Epsom rather than Cobham.
