Xidan (Chinese: 西单; Pinyin: Xīdān) is a major traditional commercial area in Beijing, China. It is located in the Xicheng District.The Xidan commercial district incorporates the Xidan Culture Square, North Xidan Street, as well as many supermarkets and department stores. The Xidan Cultural Square is the largest venue for cultural events with shopping nearby in downtown Beijing.

The Cultural Palace of Nationalities (民族文化宫) is located in Beijing's Xicheng District, on West Chang'an Avenue. Built in September 1959, it is one of the Ten Great Buildings and was registered as the first of 55 museums in the city. The building houses a museum, an art gallery, a library, an art institute, a theater, a guesthouse, and other facilities. It is under the administration of the State Ethnic Affairs Commission of the People's Republic of China.

The Wanggongchang Explosion (Chinese: 王恭廠大爆炸), also known as the Great Tianqi Explosion (天啟大爆炸), Wanggongchang Calamity (王恭廠之變) or Beijing Explosive Incident in the late Ming dynasty (晚明北京爆炸事件), was a catastrophic explosion that occurred on May 30, 1626, during the late reign of Tianqi Emperor, at the heavily populated Ming China capital Beijing, and reportedly killed around 20,000 people. The epicenter was a major production center of gunpowder, but it is uncertain exactly what triggered the explosion.

The Experimental High School Attached to Beijing Normal University (Chinese: 北京师范大学附属实验中学, commonly abbreviated as The Experimental High School Attached to BNU (Chinese: 北师大实验中学) or Experimental High (Chinese: 实验中学) and sometimes referred to as ESBNU or SDSZ, is a beacon high school in Xicheng District, Beijing, China established in 1917. It is composed of a junior high school, encompassing grades 7 through 9, and a senior high school, encompassing grades 10 through 12. It is an experimental base for teaching reform considered by the Chinese Ministry of Education and Beijing Normal University. The school is well known for its core values and academic excellence, as well as for the torture and murder of Bian Zhongyun, a deputy principal at the school and one of the first victims of the Cultural Revolution.

Fuxingmen Inner Street (simplified Chinese: 复兴门内大街; traditional Chinese: 復興門內大街; pinyin: Fùxīngmén Nèi Dàjiē) is a major street in urban Beijing. It forms part of the extended Chang'an Avenue. It starts at Fuxingmen Bridge in the west, finishing at West Chang'an Avenue in the east. The Xidan commercial area is in the neighbourhood of the street, flanked by other more modern buildings, such as the Beijing Times Square. The impressive building of the Bank of China also sits on this street, together with the People's Bank of China. Line 1 of the Beijing subway runs along this route.

Xidan Station (simplified Chinese: 西单站; traditional Chinese: 西單站; pinyin: Xīdān Zhàn) is a station on Line 1 and Line 4 of the Beijing Subway located in the Xidan commercial district. The station on average has 60,000 entrances and exits per day. It was the terminus of Line 1 until it was extended eastward to Sihui Dong (E) on September 28, 1999.

The Cathedral of the Immaculate Conception (Chinese: 圣母无染原罪堂), colloquially known as the Xuanwumen church (Chinese: 宣武门天主堂; pinyin: Xuānwǔmén Tiānzhǔtáng) or Nantang (Chinese: 南堂; lit. 'the South Church') to the locals, is a historic Roman Catholic Church located in the Beijing, China, Xicheng District, near the Beijing Financial Street. While the original foundation of the cathedral was in 1605, making it the oldest Catholic church in Beijing, the current building in Baroque style dates from 1904. The present Archbishop Joseph Li Shan, installed in September 2007, is one of the few Catholic bishops also recognised by the Catholic Patriotic Association. The church has been closed for repairs since 10 December 2018.

The Minzu Hotel (Chinese: 民族饭店; pinyin: Mínzú Fàndiàn, literally "Nationalities Hotel") is located on West Chang'an Avenue, in Xicheng District, Beijing, China. Having its opening in 1959, it was one of the Ten Great Buildings of Beijing in 1950s, and has hosted numerous foreign delegations. It is also a common place for press conferences. The 10-storey 4 star hotel has 507 rooms.

Xinhua News Agency (English pronunciation: ), or New China News Agency, is the official state news agency of the government of People's Republic of China. A State Council's ministry-level institution founded in 1931, Xinhua is the largest media organ in China. Xinhua is a publisher, as well as a news agency; it publishes in multiple languages and is a channel for the distribution of information related to the Chinese government and the ruling Chinese Communist Party (CCP). Its headquarters in Beijing are located close to the central government's headquarters at Zhongnanhai. Xinhua tailors its pro-Chinese government message to the nuances of each international audience. The organization has faced criticism for spreading propaganda and disinformation and for criticizing people, groups, or movements critical of the Chinese government and its policies.

Peking Union Medical College Hospital (PUMCH), also known as Beijing Xiehe Hospital (Chinese: 北京协和医院), is a large teaching hospital in Beijing, China. It was founded in 1921 by Rockefeller Foundation and is affiliated to both Peking Union Medical College (PUMC) and Chinese Academy of Medical Sciences (CAMS). During the Cultural Revolution, it was renamed the "Anti-imperialist Hospital". It has two locations: the Dongdan Campus in Wangfujing, Dongcheng District and the Xidan Campus in Damucang Hutong, Xicheng District.The last emperor of the Great Qing Dynasty, Aisin-Gioro Puyi, died at the Peking Union Medical College Hospital on October 17, 1967.
