Leland Historic District (Leland, Michigan)

The Leland River is a short river in the U.S. state of Michigan. Located in the unincorporated community of Leland, the river is 0.9 miles (1.4 km) long and connects Lake Leelanau with Lake Michigan, winding past historic Fishtown, a dam and two restaurants. The dam was built in 1854 and it raised the water level in the river and in Lake Leelanau as much as 12 feet (3.7 m). As the dam prevents boat traffic, launches are provided on both sides.The river was formerly known as Carp River, a term that is still often used today.

Leland ( LEE-lənd) is an unincorporated community and census-designated place (CDP) in the U.S. state of Michigan. It is located in Leelanau County, part of the northwestern Lower Peninsula of the state. As of the 2020 census it had a population of 410. From 1883 to 2004, Leland was the county seat of Leelanau County, which has since moved to Suttons Bay Township. Part of Leland Township, Leland is situated on an isthmus between Lake Leelanau and Lake Michigan, and is bisected by the Leland River, flowing from the former to the latter. Leland is a significant tourism destination and summer colony, and is located nearby Sleeping Bear Dunes National Lakeshore. Leland also serves as the departure point for ferry service to North and South Manitou Islands, both of which are wholly included in the National Lakeshore.

The Leelanau Historical Society and Museum is located at 203 E Cedar Street in Leland, Michigan, on the banks of the Leland River and two blocks from historic Fishtown and Lake Michigan. The museum's exhibits reflect the cultural history of the Leelanau Peninsula and its islands from the time of first human habitation to later settlement and development. Exhibits pertain to Shipwrecks of the Manitou Passage, Fur Trading, Early Tourism & Recreation in the region. Another permanent exhibit displays traditional Anishinaabe black ash baskets and quillwork on birch bark, which are primarily the work of the Odawa artists. The museum also houses archives of local history and collections of objects that represent the diverse cultures of Leelanau, including Anishinaabe traditional arts. A free online archive, available to the public, for research covers over 14,000 Leelanau County artifacts, photographs, maps, documents, and artwork.

The Riverside Inn is a restaurant and hotel located at 302 East River Street in Leland, Michigan. It was listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 2003.

Leland Township is a civil township of Leelanau County in the U.S. state of Michigan. As of the early 2000s, the unincorporated community of Leland, which lies totally within the township, was the county seat of Leelanau County. However, county voters on August 3, 2004, approved a proposal to build a new governmental center in adjacent Suttons Bay Township; the move to the new facility was completed in 2008. As of the 2020 census, Leland Township population was 2,126. North Manitou Island is politically part of Leland Township.

Lake Leelanau ( LEE-lə-naw) is a lake that is located in the Leelanau Peninsula of the U.S. state of Michigan. The lake is divided into two basins, usually referred to as North Lake Leelanau and South Lake Leelanau, which are divided by the Lake Leelanau Narrows in the community of Lake Leelanau. The entire lake covers about 8,608 acres (35 km2). The lake is drained by the Leland River, which flows to Lake Michigan in the community of Leland. Lake Leelanau is also occasionally referred to as Carp Lake.

WTCY (88.3 FM) is a Catholic radio station licensed to Greilickville, Michigan serving the Traverse City area of the northwestern region of Michigan's lower peninsula. It began as an FM repeater of WTCK 90.9 FM in Charlevoix with main studios located near the Cross in the Woods Catholic Shrine in Indian River. In the spring of 2015, the main studio moved from its Indian River beginnings to a new facility in Traverse City.

Lake Leelanau is an unincorporated community and census-designated place (CDP) in Leelanau County, Michigan, near the lake of the same name. As of the 2020 census it had a population of 229. It is situated along M-204 at the "narrows" that separate North and South Lake Leelanau. The community is divided between Leland Township and Suttons Bay Township.

The Lake Leelanau Narrows Bridge is a bridge located on M-204 over Lake Leelanau Narrows in Leland Township, Michigan. It was listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 2000.

Fountain Point Resort is a historic landmark located on the eastern shore of South Lake Leelanau in Suttons Bay Township, Michigan. Its name is derived from a fountain of sparkling artesian spring water, situated on a large point on Lake Leelanau, which has been continuously gushing since 1867.

Good Harbor, Michigan is a former community in Centerville Township, Leelanau County, Michigan. Located along Lake Michigan, the village was established in the mid-1870s when a sawmill was built there. The village grew to include a hotel, stores, a saloon, a school, a post office, and a 500-foot-long dock. In 1905, the sawmill burned down. The town was abandoned, with the post office closing in 1907. The remaining buildings were torn down in 1924. Today, the site of the former town is part of the Sleeping Bear Dunes National Lakeshore.
