Nash Lee

Terrick (formerly Terwick) is a hamlet in the parish of Ellesborough, in Buckinghamshire, England. It is located in the north of the parish, where the lane leading to Chequers meets the main road from Stoke Mandeville to Little Kimble. The hamlet name is Anglo Saxon in origin, and means 'Teofer's farm'. Today the community of Terrick is small, but close-knit. Terrick is the location of the Chiltern Brewery Company, who have operated in the hamlet for thirty years. The hamlet name lends itself to Terrick Truckle a cheese that they produce; and Terrick Beef, traditional English meat produced by a local farmer.

Chalkshire is a hamlet in the parish of Ellesborough (where the 2011 Census population was included), in Buckinghamshire, England. It is situated on the road that runs from Butlers Cross to Terrick. The hamlet name is fairly modern, and is quite literal in meaning. It refers to the composition of the nearby Chiltern Hills, at the foot of which the hamlet stands.

North Lee is a hamlet in the parish of Ellesborough, in Buckinghamshire, England. It is located in the very north of the parish, near the main road that links Aylesbury with Wendover. The hamlet name is a compound of English and Anglo Saxon languages, and refers to the northernmost clearing. The name refers to the adjacent hamlet of Nash Lee. Today North Lee has survived more or less unscathed from the construction of the Wendover Bypass, though the road that leads to North Lee is now a dead end rather than a through road to Wendover.

Butlers Cross is a hamlet within the parish of Ellesborough (where the 2011 Census population was included), in Buckinghamshire, England. It is in the south of the parish, at the crossroads between the road from Ellesborough to Little Kimble, and the road from Terrick to the Chequers country house. The hamlet's name refers to this junction of the two roads, and the fact that this was the place where the Chequers staff and servants normally lived. On the corner of the junction is a pub called 'The Russell' (formerly the 'Russell Arms'), referring to the family that once owned Chequers. Opposite the pub is a village hall, the Ellesborough Parish Hall, which holds local community events and regular activities such as children's groups, band rehearsals, self-defence and martial arts classes.

Ellesborough is a village and civil parish in the south of Buckinghamshire, England. The village is at the foot of the Chiltern Hills just to the south of the Vale of Aylesbury, two miles (three kilometres) from Wendover and five miles (eight kilometres) from Aylesbury. It lies between Wendover and the village of Little Kimble. The civil parish (population in 2011 was 820) includes the hamlets of Butlers Cross, Chalkshire, Dunsmore, North Lee, and Terrick. Close to Ellesborough is the Prime Minister's country residence Chequers.

Coombe Hill is a hill in The Chilterns, located next to the hamlet of Dunsmore, Buckinghamshire, England, near the small town of Wendover, and overlooking Aylesbury Vale. It is not to be confused with another Coombe Hill on the flank of Haddington Hill, some two miles (3.2 km) to the north-east. It is part of the Bacombe and Coombe Hills Site of Special Scientific Interest. The majority of the hill (an area of 106 acres (43 ha)) once formed part of the Chequers Estate but was presented to the National Trust by the United Kingdom government when they were given the Estate in the 1920s. The summit of the hill is 852 feet (260 m) above sea level.

Coombe is a hamlet in the parish of Ellesborough in the English county of Buckinghamshire, situated between Coombe Hill and Chequers, the official country residence of the Prime Minister of the United Kingdom. At the 2011 Census the population of the hamlet was included in the civil parish of Wendover. The hamlet is situated on the Missenden Road that leads from Butlers Cross to Great and Little Hampden. The Buckinghamshire headquarters of the Girl Guides are situated in Coombe, as is part of Ellesborough Golf Club.

Bacombe and Coombe Hills is a 76.4-hectare (189-acre) biological Site of Special Scientific Interest in Upper Bacombe in Buckinghamshire. Bacombe Hill was formerly owned by Buckinghamshire County Council, which transferred it to Berkshire, Buckinghamshire and Oxfordshire Wildlife Trust in 2014. Coombe Hill is owned by the National Trust.The site is in the Chilterns Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty and Bacombe Hill is a Local Nature Reserve. The Ridgeway National Trail crosses the site.The site is chalk grassland which has a rich variety of species. including the entire British population of fringed gentian, and there are areas of juniper and mixed scrub. Invertebrates include scarce species, such as chalkhill blue and brown argus butterflies. Bacombe Hill is noted for orchids.There is access from Ellesbrough Road.

Stoke Mandeville railway station serves the village of Stoke Mandeville, south of Aylesbury in Buckinghamshire, England. The station is on the London - Aylesbury line and is served by Chiltern Railways trains. It is between Wendover and Aylesbury stations. Both station platforms have step-free access.

Stoke Mandeville is a village and civil parish in the Vale of Aylesbury in Buckinghamshire, England. It is located three miles (4.9 km) from Aylesbury and 3.4 miles (5.5 km) from the market town of Wendover. Although a separate civil parish, the village falls within the Aylesbury Urban Area. According to the Census Report the area of this parish is 1,460 acres (5.9 km2). Stoke Mandeville Hospital, although named after the village, is located in Aylesbury. The hospital has the largest spinal injuries ward in Europe, and is best known internationally as the birthplace of the Paralympic movement; the Stoke Mandeville Games, instituted at the hospital by Sir Ludwig Guttmann in 1948 evolved to become the first Paralympic Games in Rome in 1960, which were also the 9th Stoke Mandeville Games. Stoke Mandeville hospital and stadium were also joint host of the 1984 Summer Paralympics with New York, with the wheelchair elements of the Games being held at the hospital and stadium. Stoke Mandeville Stadium, although in Aylesbury, gave its name to the Paralympic Games mascot, Mandeville, in 2012.

Cymbeline's Castle, also known as Cymbeline's Mound and Belinus's Castle, is the remains of a motte-and-bailey castle in woods north-east of Great Kimble in Buckinghamshire, England. It is scheduled under the Ancient Monuments and Archaeological Areas Act 1979.The motte is about 42 metres (138 ft) in diameter and encircled on three sides by a ditch, outside which lie two additional baileys. Within the baileys have been found pottery fragments of the 13th–15th centuries, and Iron Age and Romano-British fragments have been recovered to the east of the remains. A short distance to the west are remains of another motte-and-bailey castle, along with a moated enclosure and a Roman villa.The name associates it with the ancient British king Cunobeline (Cymbeline), although this may be a Victorian invention. (There is also a theory that the nearby villages of Great Kimble, Little Kimble and Kimble Wick are named after Cymbeline; however, this has been discredited, as the etymology of Kimble is a description of the hill rather than a name.) It is said that if one runs around this mound seven times, the devil will appear.

Chequers ( CHEK-ərz) is the country house of the Prime Minister of the United Kingdom. A 16th-century manor house in origin, it is near the village of Ellesborough, halfway between Princes Risborough and Wendover in Buckinghamshire, at the foot of the Chiltern Hills, 40 miles (64 km) north-west of central London. Coombe Hill is two-thirds of a mile (1.1 km) northeast. Chequers has been the country home of the serving Prime Minister since 1921 after the estate was given to the nation by Sir Arthur Lee by a Deed of Settlement, given full effect in the Chequers Estate Act 1917. The house is listed Grade I on the National Heritage List for England.
