Congress Street Bridge (Connecticut)

The Pequonnock River Railroad Bridge is a railroad drawbridge (movable bridge) over the Pequonnock River in Bridgeport, Connecticut. Owned by the State of Connecticut and maintained and operated by both Amtrak and Metro-North Railroad, it is also referred to as Pequonnock River Bridge, PECK Bridge, and Undergrade Bridge 55.90 (the mileage from Grand Central Terminal). Currently the bridge is part of the Northeast Corridor line, carrying rail traffic of Amtrak and Metro-North, as well as freight trains operated by the Providence & Worcester Railroad.

The Connecticut Railway and Lighting Company Car Barn was historic streetcar maintenance facility in Bridgeport, Connecticut. Built in 1910 and enlarged in 1920, it served as a maintenance barn first for electric streetcars and then buses for many years, and was one of the few surviving reminders of the city's early public transit system. The building was listed on the National Register of Historic Places on December 3, 1987. It was demolished in 2008 to make way for construction of the Connecticut Superior Court juvenile facility that now stands on its site.

The East Washington Avenue Bridge refers to the bridges that have connected East Washington Avenue over the Pequonnock River in Bridgeport, Connecticut. Records state that a bridge was first constructed on the site in 1836, but no description of the bridge has been found. The second bridge was a truss swing design and underwent heavy repair and modernization in 1893. The third design was a movable Strauss underneath-counter weight deck-girder bascule bridge. The plans were drafted by James A. McElroy, using Joseph B. Strauss's design in 1916. However, construction was delayed for years because of a dispute with the contractor and a lack of funds. The bridge was completed by Bridgeport Dry Dock and Dredging when the State of Connecticut appropriated $350,000 to erect the bridge. Completed in 1925, the bridge underwent several modifications throughout its service life. On July 26, 1983, the bridge was closed after it was found to be in danger of collapse. It reopened after repair, but was closed in the 1990s before being replaced with a modern bascule bridge in 1998. In 2010, the report listed the deck and superstructure conditions as "Good" and the substructure condition as "Satisfactory".

The Bridgeport Main Post Office is located at 120 Middle Street in Bridgeport, Connecticut. It is a three-story Moderne/Art Deco, designed by Louis A. Simon, the supervising architect of the United States Treasury Department, and completed in 1934. The building notably includes artwork funded by the department's Section of Painting and Sculpture, with murals in its lobby area drawn by R. L. Lambden depicting mail delivery through the ages.The building was listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 1986.

The Palace and the Majestic are a pair of historic performance and film venues at 1315-1357 Main Street in downtown Bridgeport, Connecticut. Built in 1921-22 by Sylvester Z. Poli in a single building that also housed a hotel, they were in their heyday a posh and opulent sight, designed by noted theater architect Thomas W. Lamb. The building has stood vacant and decaying since the 1970s, despite repeated attempts to restore its grandeur. The building was listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 1979.

The East Bridgeport Historic District encompasses one of the best-preserved 19th-century neighborhoods of Bridgeport, Connecticut. Bounded by Arctic Street, East Main Street, the railroad tracks, and the Pequonnock River, this area was a planned development of Bridgeport promoter P.T. Barnum and landowner William H. Noble. Its development prompted the significant growth of industry and economic activity east of the Pequonnock River. The district was listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 1979.

The Bridgeport Downtown North Historic District encompasses a portion of the commercial downtown of Bridgeport, Connecticut. It isroughly bounded on the north by Congress Street, the east by Water and Middle Streets, the south by Fairfield Avenue, and the west by Lyon Terrace (although it does not include any properties on the latter street), roughly the northeastern quadrant of the downtown area. It is one of two large clusters of historically significant commercial and civic buildings (the other is the Bridgeport Downtown South Historic District) encapsulating the city's growth as an urban industrial and regional government center. It was listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 1987.

The Fairfield County Courthouse, also known as the Court of Common Pleas, is located at 172 Golden Hill Street in downtown Bridgeport, Connecticut. It is also known as Geographical Area (GA) Courthouse No. 2 at Bridgeport. It is a Richardsonian Romanesque brick building built in 1888. It was listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 1982. It still functions as a courthouse where all but the most serious criminal cases are heard.

Priscilla Dailey, previously known as the Elizabeth E. Newell, is a wooden canal boat constructed in 1929 in Whitehall, New York. The barge was used to transport bulk cargo in New York, New Jersey, and Connecticut harbors. It sank in 1974 along with the Elmer S. Dailey and the Berkshire No. 7 in the harbor of Bridgeport, Connecticut on the west side of the Pequonnock River. The sunken boat has deteriorated to the point that a salvage operation could result in it breaking apart. It was added to the National Register of Historic Places on December 21, 1978.

Elmer S. Dailey, originally known as the Claire B. Follette, is a wooden barge built by William H. Follette in 1915 at Tonawanda, New York, and rebuilt and renamed in 1928 by Brown Drydock on Staten Island, New York. It was used to transport materials from New York, New Jersey and Connecticut. It is the only known surviving Erie Canal boat and is one of a few remaining wooden-hulled canal boats. It sank in 1974 along with the Priscilla Dailey and the Berkshire No. 7 in the harbor of Bridgeport, Connecticut on the west side of the Pequonnock River. It has deteriorated to the point that a salvage operation could result in it breaking apart. It was added to the National Register of Historic Places on December 21, 1978.

Berkshire No. 7 is a wood and steel barge constructed in 1935. It is historically important as a transitional canal barge and as one of the few surviving wooden-hulled canal boats. It was used to transport bulk cargo, including shipping fertilizer, from Connecticut to Long Island Sound. It sank in 1974 along with the Elmer S. Dailey and the Priscilla Dailey in the harbor of Bridgeport, Connecticut on the west side of the Pequonnock River. The sunken vessel has deteriorated to the point that a salvage operation could result in breaking it apart. The Berkshire No. 7 was added to the National Register of Historic Places on December 21, 1978.

The Hotel Beach, also known historically as the Hotel Barnum, is a historic hotel building at 140 Fairfield Ave. in Bridgeport, Connecticut. It is a thirteen-story Art Deco tower built in 1927 and designed by Thomas, Martin & Kirkpatrick. It is one of the city's outstanding Art Deco buildings, built when the city was at its peak. It was listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 1978. It is a contributing building in the Bridgeport Downtown North Historic District, NRHP-listed in 1987. It is currently a residential apartment building called Barnum House.
