Großgörschen is a village and a former municipality in the Burgenlandkreis district, in Saxony-Anhalt, Germany. Since 1 January 2010, it is part of the town Lützen.

Kitzen is a former municipality in the Leipzig district, in Saxony, Germany. With effect from 1 January 2012, it has been incorporated into the town of Pegau.

Leipzig-Gohlis (German: Bahnhof Leipzig-Gohlis) is a railway station located in Gohlis, a borough of Leipzig, Germany. The station is located on the Leipzig-Wahren–Leipzig Hbf and Leipzig–Großkorbetha railways. Passenger services are operated by DB Regio. Since December 2013 the station is served by the S-Bahn Mitteldeutschland.

Battle on the Elster (German: Schlacht bei Hohenmölsen) was the third and last battle between the Salian king Henry IV of Germany and anti-king Rudolf of Rheinfelden, fought on October 14, 1080 near Hohenmölsen on the White Elster river. Rudolf's forces were victorious; however, he was mortally wounded and succumbed to his injuries the next day.

Pegau () is a town in the Leipzig district in Saxony, Germany, situated in a fertile plain, on the White Elster, 18 m. S.W. from Leipzig by the railway to Zeitz. It has two Evangelical churches, that of St. Lawrence being a fine Gothic structure, a 16th-century town-hall; a very old hospital and an agricultural school. In the 19th Century, its industries included the manufacture of felt, boots and metal wares.

The Abbey of St. James in Pegau was a Benedictine monastery in the town of Pegau in Saxony. It was one of the first monasteries founded in the Duchy of Saxony. It is known above all for the so-called Annales Pegaviensis, the Annals of Pegau from the year 1155, an important description of medieval history.

Leipzig-Thekla (German: Bahnhof Leipzig-Thekla) is a railway station located in Leipzig, Germany. The station is located on the connection of Leipzig–Eilenburg railway and Leipzig-Wahren–Leipzig-Engelsdorf railway, part of the Leipzig Freight Ring. Passenger services are operated by DB Regio. Since December 2013 the station is served by the S-Bahn Mitteldeutschland.

Muschwitz is a village and former municipality in the Burgenlandkreis district, in Saxony-Anhalt, Germany. Since 1 January 2010, it is part of the town Lützen.

Lützen-Wiesengrund was a Verwaltungsgemeinschaft ("collective municipality") in the district Burgenlandkreis, in Saxony-Anhalt, Germany. It was situated east of Weißenfels. The seat of the Verwaltungsgemeinschaft was in Lützen. It was disbanded in January 2011.

The Battle of Lützen, fought on 16 November 1632, is considered one of the most important battles of the Thirty Years' War. A combined Swedish-German army led by Gustavus Adolphus narrowly defeated an Imperial force under Albrecht von Wallenstein. Both sides suffered heavy casualties, with Gustavus among the dead. The first part of the battle featured a series of frontal attacks by the Swedes, which nearly succeeded before being repulsed by Imperial cavalry under Pappenheim. Gustavus was killed trying to reform his shattered infantry, but his subordinates rallied their men and supported by close range artillery fire overran the Imperial centre just before nightfall. Wallenstein withdrew in good order although he abandoned his wounded, many of his guns and most of his supply train. Despite the loss of their king, the Swedes continued the war under the direction of Axel Oxenstierna and formed the Heilbronn League with their German allies in April 1633. Backed by French subsidies, the coalition defeated an Imperial army under von Gronsfeld at Oldendorf in July. Wallenstein's alleged failure to support his colleague and rumours he was contemplating switching sides led to his removal and assassination by Imperial agents in February 1634.
