Altenberge

Nordwalde (literally: north woods) is a municipality in the district of Steinfurt, in North Rhine-Westphalia, Germany.

Münster is one of the five Regierungsbezirke of North Rhine-Westphalia, Germany, located in the north of the state, and named after the capital city of Münster. It includes the area which in medieval times was known as the Dreingau. Regierungsbezirk Münster mostly covers rural areas of Münsterland famous for their castles, e.g. Castle Nordkirchen and Castle Ahaus. The region offers more than a hundred castles, all linked up by the cycle path 100 Schlösser Route. The three southern municipalities are part of the Ruhrgebiet, a densely populated region with much industry. Besides this the area is mostly as green as the rest of Münsterland and historically a part of the landscape. The history of the Regierungsbezirk dates back to 1815, when it was one of the original 25 Regierungsbezirke created as a subdivision of the provinces of Prussia. The last reorganization of the districts was made in 1975, when the number of districts was reduced from ten to five, and the number of district-free cities from six to three.

Hunnebecke is a small river of North Rhine-Westphalia, Germany. It flows into the Krummer Bach near Münster.

St. Nicomedes' Church is the Catholic church of Borghorst, a place belonging to the city of Steinfurt.

Laer (German pronunciation: [ˈlaːɐ̯]) is a municipality in the district of Steinfurt, in North Rhine-Westphalia, Germany. It is situated approximately 10 kilometres (6.2 mi) south of Steinfurt and 20 kilometres (12 mi) north-west of Münster. Since the ae spelling already contradicted the rules in force before 1996, it was not amended in accordance with a recommendation of the Standing Committee on Geographical Names.

The Baumberge are the highest hills in the natural regions of Münsterland and Kernmünsterland with a maximum height of 187.6 m above sea level (NHN). They are located between Münster and Coesfeld, which is itself close to the southwest edge of the Baumberge. The hilly terrain has several geological, hydrographic and architectural features.

The Longinus Tower (Longinusturm) is a 32-metre-high observation tower located in Nottuln, Germany. It was erected by the Baumberge Club between 1897 and 1901 on the summit of the 182.61-metre-high Westerberg hill. The Longinus Tower is made of calcareous sandstone. At the beginning of the 1950s, the Longinus Tower was adapted to become a telecommunication tower with an observation deck and antenna systems that rather spoilt its appearance architecturally. It was from the Longinus Tower that, in 1952, Reinhold Holtstiege, transmitted the first public television programmes after World War II. As it had no connection to the grid, the transmitter was powered by a transformer from a car battery. Later the Longinus Tower was used as TV transmitter. But its relatively low height was not enough to meet the demand, and so a 182-metre-high, steel tube mast was built in the vicinity, guyed at 70 and 143 metres. In 2005 this mast was replaced by a 181.2-metre-high, steel lattice mast, guyed at 3 levels – 47, 97 and 147 metres – as the old mast was unable to carry antennas for digital TV. In 1992 a wind measurement system was installed on the top of the tower. In 1993 and 1994 two wind turbines were built nearby.

The Westerberg, also called the Westerather Berg, is, at 187.6 m above sea level (NN), the highest elevation in the Baumberge hills and the German region of Münsterland. It is located in this small range of hills between the three villages of Billerbeck, Havixbeck, and Nottuln.

The Wasserschloss Wilkinghege is a country estate in Kinderhaus, part of the Westphalian city of Münster, Germany. It is built in Renaissance style. Since 1955 it has been used as a hotel with a golf course.

The Emsdetten school shooting was a school shooting that occurred at the Geschwister-Scholl-Schule in Emsdetten, Germany on 20 November 2006 when 18-year-old former student Sebastian Bosse shot and wounded 8 people and set off several smoke bombs before committing suicide. Even though there were no fatalities besides that of the gunman, the shooting was at one point considered to be the worst school shooting in the history of Germany since the Erfurt massacre, in which 17 people, including the perpetrator, were killed. This position is now held by the 2009 Winnenden school shooting, which left 16 people dead, including the perpetrator.

Greven is a railway station located in Greven, Germany. The station is located on the Münster–Rheine line. The train services are operated by Deutsche Bahn and the WestfalenBahn. The station is 10 minutes walk from the centre of Greven.
