Carver Residential Historic District

Carver is a neighborhood near the Virginia Commonwealth University campus in Richmond, Virginia, and straddles alongside the border between Downtown Richmond and North Side. The neighborhood is in the process of gentrification and is heavily inhabited with students attending Virginia Commonwealth and Virginia Union universities due to the two school's proximities to the neighborhood. The main roads through the neighborhood are West Leigh Street (Virginia Route 33) as well as Clay and Marshall Streets. The neighborhood is primarily residential, though it is home to several scrap metal yards and restaurants. The Carver Industrial Historic District and Carver Residential Historic District are national historic districts located at Carver.

Gilpin is a small neighborhood located in Richmond, Virginia and within the boundaries of the North Side of the city limits. Originally part and parcel of the historically Black neighborhood of Jackson Ward, the northern section of that neighborhood was heavily redeveloped with the provision of public housing from the mid-20th century onwards, with the major development taking the name "Gilpin Court". During the same period, a massive expansion of highway building around and through central Richmond saw the Gilpin Court and the rest of the neighborhood essentially cut off from the rest of Jackson Ward. The community of Gilpin lies adjacent to the interchange of Interstates 64 and 95, and houses two cemeteries: Hebrew Cemetery and Shockoe Hill Cemetery. The headquarters for the Richmond Department of Redevelopment and Housing are situated in the neighborhood along with the Richmond Alternative School. Most of the western part of the neighborhood is occupied with higher density structure, but housing becomes less dense towards the eastern part of the community.

The Stuart C. Siegel Center is a 190,000-square-foot (18,000 m2) multi-purpose facility on the campus of Virginia Commonwealth University in Richmond, Virginia, United States. The facility's main component is the 7,637-(expandable to 8,000) seat E.J. Wade Arena. It also served as a student recreational area until 2010, when the new Cary Street Gym complex was completed. It now is used purely for VCU athletics and includes a weight room, auxiliary basketball court, and a cafè. The E.J. Wade Arena hosts Division I level NCAA inter-collegiate athletics and serves as a general-purpose assembly space for special events such as graduations, concerts, receptions, and a variety of competitions (both athletic and non athletic). It is named after Richmond businessman Stuart C. Siegel. The complex opened in 1999 and cost $30.1 million to construct. $7 million of the cost was donated by local businessman Stuart C. Siegel; the center bears his name as a result. Its main tenant is the VCU Rams men's basketball team, which enjoys one of the nation's best home court winning percentages since moving into the facility. The court has received the reputation as arguably the toughest place to play in the Atlantic 10 Conference. The VCU Rams men's basketball team currently holds the 11th-highest home court winning percentage in Division I basketball with a winning percentage of 85.79 The student section, dubbed the "Rowdy Rams" is extremely passionate. In 2012–2013, the Rowdy Rams received the Naismith Student Section of the Year Award, recognizing the best student section in college basketball. Since January 2011, every home game at the Siegel Center has been sold out and the streak currently stands at 134 (as of 3/8/19). The arena also routinely hosts local and state high school basketball tournaments, in addition to hosting the annual Virginia Regional (formerly VCU/NASA) FIRST Robotics Competition.Before the 2016-2017 basketball season, the arena was renamed the E.J. Wade Arena; a construction company owned by a local family in Mechanicsville, VA. The deal is for $2.75 million over ten years, but the Wade family has promised a total monetary donation of $4.05 million over those ten years.

The Carver Industrial Historic District is a national historic district located at Carver, Richmond, Virginia. The district encompasses 13 contributing buildings located west of downtown Richmond. The industrial area developed between 1890 and 1930, along the tracks of the Richmond, Fredericksburg and Potomac Railroad. The buildings are in a variety of popular 19th-century and early 20th century architectural styles including Queen Anne and Romanesque. Notable buildings include the Peter Stumpf Brewing Company or the Home Brewery (1891), Baughman Stationery Company (1903), Consumers' Ice Company building (1906), American Tobacco Company warehouse (1906), Eagle Paper Company building (1912), Export Leaf Tobacco Company factory (1915), Haines, Jones and Cadbury Company (1926), Saunders Oil Company building (c. 1930), and the Virginia Railroad and Power Company substation (1915).It was added to the National Register of Historic Places in 2000.

Institute for Contemporary Art at VCU in Richmond (ICA at VCU), also known as the VCU Institute for Contemporary Art at the Markel Center, is an arts center at Virginia Commonwealth University, Richmond, Virginia. It was designed by architecture firm Steven Holl Architects, and built by Gilbane Building Company. Steven Holl Architects was selected from 64 competing architectural firms worldwide, along with local architect, BCWH Architects. Virginia Commonwealth University President Michael Rao, in announcing plans for the ICA in 2011, said that the prominence of the museum's location, "bordering the city's Arts District and in the Broad Street Corridor which links the VCU Monroe Park Campus with VCU's Medical Center" would have symbolic significance. The ICA opened to the public in April, 2018.

Scott House, also known as Frederic W. Scott House and Scott-Bocock House, is a historic home located in Richmond, Virginia and is owned by Virginia Commonwealth University as the University's alumni house. The first floor of the historic house is available for university, community and corporate events. Many affairs — including university and alumni receptions and retreats — have occurred at the Scott House since its doors opened in the fall of 2004.It was listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 2007.

The Lee Art Theater was an adult film theater located on 934 W Grace Street, Richmond, Virginia, United States, that ran from 1965 to 1993. It is known as Richmond's first adult theater, and featured burlesque dancers in its later years. The theater closed in 1993, was bought and reopened by Virginia Commonwealth University, was renamed the Grace Street Theater, and is now used for the University's Dance program.

The Coliseum–Duplex Envelope Company Building, also known as the Valentine Auction Company Building, is a building in Richmond, Virginia that was built in 1922 in Early Commercial style.It was listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 1999. It is located in the West Broad Street Commercial Historic District.

Warren W. Brandt Hall is a 17-story dormitory, that is located on the northeast corner of the Virginia Commonwealth University Monroe Park campus. The building is adjacent to Rhoads Hall, and houses 640 freshmen students. The building was dedicated on August 24, 2005 and opened for the 2005–06 academic school year, being the newest residence building on campus until the construction of Gladding Residence Center, Phase III. The building is named in Warren W. Brandt, who was the first president of VCU.

Ginter House is the historic 1892 former residence of Lewis Ginter. It is owned by Virginia Commonwealth University (VCU) and is home to the provost's office. It was used as Richmond's first public library from 1925 until 1930, was used as part of a school, and was the main administrative building on the Monroe Park, Virginia campus of VCU for more than 40 years. In September 2020, the University’s Board of Visitors voted to de-commemorate several buildings on campus named for members of the Confederacy including the Lewis Ginter house. The house is now simply known as the "VCU Administration Building".

The West Franklin Street Historic District is a national historic district located at Richmond, Virginia. It is located along the northern boundary of the Fan district. The district encompasses 71 contributing buildings built between about 1870 and the 1920. It was originally developed as a primarily residential district with buildings in a variety of popular late-19th and early-20th century architectural styles including Greek Revival, Romanesque, Georgian Revival, Queen Anne, and Italianate. Many of the dwellings have been converted to commercial use. In addition, the district's private houses have been converted into multi-family housing and departmental offices for Virginia Commonwealth University. Notable buildings include Franklin Terrace, the Ritter-Hickock House, First Independent Church, Founder's Hall, the Raleigh Building, The Greyston Apartments, Gresham Court Apartments, and the Beth Ahabah Congregation Hall and Synagogue.It was added to the National Register of Historic Places in 1972, with a boundary increase in 2009.

The Negro Development and Exposition Company of the United States of America, was an organization established in 1903 by Giles Beecher Jackson. It was also known as the Negro Development and Exposition Co. (NDEC), and the Negro Development and Exposition Company of the U.S.A.. It was headquartered at 528 Broad Street in the Jackson Ward neighborhood of Richmond, Virginia, the initial purpose of the company was to support an exhibit dedicated to African Americans in the "Negro Building" at the 1907 Jamestown Exposition. There were public issues with financials and accounting by the NDEC, and in 1908, they were faced with a breach of contract lawsuit related to the 1907 Jamestown Exposition.The NDEC capitalized on the display of African American achievements. Their goal was the creating the first national museum to highlight African American achievement history, but which was never created.
