North Colombo Medical College (NCMC) was the first privately funded medical school in Sri Lanka. It started in 1980 with the admission of 100 local and 20 foreign students. The first batch of students began graduating in 1990. Founded by the College of General Practitioners of Sri Lanka, Dr. G. M. Heenilame was its first chairman and Dr. W.D. Ratnavelle, its first director. It was nationalized in 1989 and became the Faculty of Medicine, University of Kelaniya. The first batch of students of the Faculty of Medicine, University of Kelaniya completed their five-year course and graduated with the MBBS degree in September 1996.

Lotus Tower (Sinhala: නෙළුම් කුළුණ; Tamil: தாமரைக் கோபுரம்), also referred to as Colombo Lotus Tower, is a 351.5 m (1,153 ft) tall tower, located in Colombo, Sri Lanka. It has been called a symbolic landmark of Sri Lanka. As of 2019, the tower is the tallest self-supported structure in South Asia; the second tallest structure in South Asia after the guy-wire-supported INS Kattabomman in India; the 11th tallest tower in Asia and the 19th tallest tower in the world. It was first proposed to be built in the suburb of Peliyagoda but later the Government of Sri Lanka decided to change the location. The lotus-shaped tower is used for communication, observation and other leisure facilities. Construction is estimated to have cost US$113 million.

Blue Orbit by Citrus Leisure is Sri Lanka's first and only revolving restaurant at the 751 ft (229 m) located on the 26th floor of the Colombo Lotus Tower, It is also South Asia's tallest restaurant. It is Managed by Citrus Leisure PLC.

Postal museum is a Sri Lanka's national museum of post that located at the Postal Headquarters in Colombo, Sri Lanka. Firstly, the postal museum was functioned at the Central Telegraph Office during 1918–1925, and moved to General Post Office in 1994. Again, a national postal museum was opened on 6 July 2010.The museum has basic information on Dutch period post offices, rare stamps, equipment, pillar boxes, etc. Overall, the museum gives the picture of Sri Lanka Post's history.

St. Joseph's College, Wattala also known as "St. Joseph's College Colombo 10 - Wattala Branch" was formerly known as St. Joseph's College, Enderamulla. It is a Catholic private school situated in the suburbs of Colombo. It is a selective entry Catholic school commenced on 10 January 1996 under the guidance of Rev. Dr. Stanley Abeysekera. The College enrolls over 1,400 students with a staff of over 85. The school is a non-fee levying school, whereby it receives some state funding, relying mostly on funds from an extensive network of alumni worldwide.School buildings cover 7.3 hectares (18 acres) and include a College chapel, and auditorium.

St. Joseph's College is a selective-entry Roman Catholic school in Sri Lanka. It was founded in 1896 by French Missionaries led by Rev. Father Christopher-Ernest Bonjean O.M.I. The college has over 4,000 enrolled students with a staff of over 450 as of 2023. Former students include the first President of the Maldives, Mohamed Amin Didi, the third President of Sri Lanka, Ranasinghe Premadasa, Nirj Deva Member of the British Parliament and Cardinal Thomas Cooray, the first Cardinal from Sri Lanka. The (Latin) motto of the college is In Scientia et Virtute, meaning "In Knowledge and Virtue". The school is a fee-levying school which receives some state funding while also relying on funds from an extensive network of alumni worldwide.

TRACE Expert City (abbreviated TEC) or simply TRACE City in short, is a commercial office complex in Maradana, Sri Lanka. It was formerly the Tripoli Market Square, an 18th century complex of derelict British warehouse buildings.TEC consists of three renovated buildings. The southernmost building is a dual-gable-roofed structure that houses a shared cafeteria and offices belonging to the London Stock Exchange Group. The main central building consists of thirteen parallel warehouse bays, and houses much of the rentable 5,000 square feet (460 m2) TRACE Auditorium, and offices including that of CodeGen. The northernmost building, or "Exchange House", is a single gable-roofed structure that houses further offices belonging to the London Stock Exchhange Group. TRACE (Technologically Reawaken the Culture of Excellence) was developed with the support of the Urban Development Authority (UDA) and Sri Lanka Association of Software and Service Companies, with the intention of promoting development through innovative technology. It was declared opened on 28 July 2014 by Gotabaya Rajapaksa, along with the Chairman of the UDA, Nimal Perera, dignitaries from the Sri Lankan Army, and the management of CodeGen.

The Sri Lanka Institute of Advanced Technological Education (Sinhala: ශ්‍රී ලංකා උසස් තාක්ෂණ අධ්‍යපන ආයතනය; Tamil: இலங்கை உயர் தொழில்நுட்ப நிறுவனம்) (also known as SLIATE) is a statutory body in Sri Lanka coming under the purview of the Higher Education Ministry and offering Higher National Diploma courses. At present, it manages and supervises eighteen provincial Advanced Technological Institutes throughout the island. The institute is traditionally known for its education in the accountancy and engineering. As per the recommendations of the Committee appointed by Prof. Wiswa Waranapala, Deputy Minister of Higher Education in 1994, the Sri Lanka Institute of Advanced Technical Education (SLIATE) was formed in 1995, under the Sri Lanka Institute of Advanced Technical Education Act No. 29 of 1995. In 2001, the name of the institution was amended as Sri Lanka Institute of Advanced Technological Education (SLIATE).

Zahira College (commonly known as Zahira) (Sinhala: සහිරා විදුහල, Tamil: சாஹிரா கல்லுரி) is an Islamic school at Colombo in Maradana, Sri Lanka. It was founded in 1892 as Al Madrasathul Zahira by one of renowned Islamic lawyer and educationalist, Muhammad Cassim Siddi Lebbe, with the active patronage of Ahmed Orabi Pasha of Egypt. The college also has one of the oldest mosques in the country on its campus.The word Zahira means "excellence" in Arabic.

Maradana is a suburb of Colombo, Sri Lanka. Maradana is the site of Maradana Railway Station, one of the primary railway hubs in the country, serving intercity rail and commuter rail. Maradana also has many railway yards and running sheds. A technical college, many national schools, the Lotus Tower, and business institutions are also located in the area. A statue of Colonel Henry Steel Olcott, the founder of the Theosophical Society and the first well-known person of European ancestry to make a formal conversion to Buddhism, is located in Maradana.

Maradana Railway Station (Sinhala: මරදාන දුම්රිය ස්ථානය, Tamil: மருதானை ரயில் நிலையம்) is a major rail hub in Colombo, Sri Lanka. The station is served by Sri Lanka Railways, with many inter-city and commuter trains entering each day. It is the terminus of several intercity trains. Maradana is home to the suburban-Colombo network's centralised traffic control centre.

Beira Lake (/ˈbeɪrə/; Sinhala: බේරේ වැව, romanized: Bērē væva (IPA: [beːreː ˈʋæʋə]); Tamil: பேரே ஏரி, romanized: Pērē ēri (IPA: [peːɾeː eːɾi])) is a lake in the centre of the city of Colombo in Sri Lanka. The lake is surrounded by many large businesses in the city. It initially occupied approximately 1.65 km2 (0.64 sq mi) of land 100 years ago and this has since been reduced to 0.65 km2 (0.25 sq mi) today due to various reasons. During the colonial era of the Portuguese, Dutch and the English the lake was used for a wide variety of purposes. It still retains its Portuguese name. It is connected to many intricate canals which provided an easy way of transporting goods within the city and suburban cities.
