Calderwood Castle

Calderwood Glen Platform railway station was a public and an excursion platform on the Blantyre and East Kilbride Branch of the Caledonian Railway which ran from East Kilbride to Hunthill Junction at High Blantyre. Opened in 1907 served by trains between East Kilbride and Blantyre until 1924 and after used as an excursion platform for the Calderwood Estate pleasure grounds until closure in 1939 due to war time shortages.

Gilbertfield Castle is a ruined 17th-century castle in South Lanarkshire, Scotland. It is located at NS652587, on the north slope of Dechmont Hill, just outside Cambuslang, to the south-east of Glasgow.

Sanderson High School is a non-denominational secondary school in East Kilbride, South Lanarkshire, Scotland for pupils with additional support needs. The school was established in June 1994 after the merger of Springhall School and Dalton School. The new school buildings were opened officially on 5 February 2009 (though by then had already been in use for some months) as part of South Lanarkshire Council’s Schools’ Modernisation Programme. It is the smallest high school in East Kilbride and shares a campus with Calderglen High School.

Calderglen High School (Scottish Gaelic: Àrd-sgoil Ghlinn Challdair) is a state-run secondary school in the St Leonards area of the Scottish new town East Kilbride, in South Lanarkshire. The complex of buildings is situated on the precipitous bank of the Rotten Calder Water, overlooking a meander named the 'School Bend'. The school derives its name from the Calder Glen (gorge) which the river occupies, which is a site of special scientific interest (SSSI). The school has a pupil roll of approximately 1800, with 130 teachers, making it one of the largest secondary institutions in Europe. The school's houses are named Cameron, Torrance and Struthers.The school was established after the merger of Hunter High School and Claremont High School. Calderglen occupies the site of the former Claremont High, and was opened on 18 February 2008. The campus is shared with Sanderson High School, a special school catering for students with learning difficulties.

Claremont High School was a non-denominational, state-funded secondary school based in the St Leonards area of East Kilbride. It closed in June 2007 and merged with Hunter High School to form the new Calderglen High School, although Calderglen met in the Claremont building until February 2008 when the new building opened on the same site. It was originally one of six state Secondary schools in East Kilbride until, after a school modernisation program by South Lanarkshire Council, they were merged into three schools.

St Leonards is an area of the Scottish new town East Kilbride, in South Lanarkshire. St Leonards is a residential area on the east side of the town. The majority of the area's streets are named after Glens, Islands, Rivers and Lochs from Scotland, for instance: Loch Shin, Loch Assynt, Glen Carron, Glen Tanner, Inch Murrin, Benbecula and Skye. About 39 streets are named after Glens of Scotland, 20 after Scottish Islands, 12 after Lochs and 7 after Scottish Rivers. St Leonards is well known for its red brick terraced houses in the Calderglen area, which can be seen from St Leonards Road approaching High Common Road.

The A725 road in Scotland is a major route which is a trunk road dual carriageway for almost its whole length, connecting several of the large towns of North Lanarkshire and South Lanarkshire, linking the M8 and M74 motorways; it has been upgraded frequently since its construction, with the most recent major work completed in 2017. In combination with the A726 road which meets the M77 motorway, it forms a southern and eastern bypass for the city of Glasgow.

South Lanarkshire College (Scottish Gaelic: Colaiste Shiorrachd Lannraig a Deas) is a further education institution in South Lanarkshire, Scotland. Its campus is located in East Kilbride, with new buildings completed in 2008 at a site between the town centre and the Kelvin industrial area.The college was founded in 1948 as a building school in Cambuslang and had several sites for its various departments over its history, including at Blantyre, Motherwell, Hamilton and Wishaw. Its last site in Cambuslang was at the former Gateside School which dated from the 1880s, but was demolished soon after the college relocated entirely to East Kilbride.In 2019, the college was chosen as the site for a monument to the workers at the nearby, recently closed Rolls-Royce engineering works who refused to fix military aircraft engines used by the Pinochet regime of Chile in the 1970s (detailed in the documentary movie Nae Pasaran); the monument itself is one of the engines sent to the factory which was never used again.
