Vermilion is a city in Erie and Lorain Counties in the U.S. state of Ohio, on Lake Erie. Its population was 10,659 at the 2020 census. Located about 35 miles west of Cleveland and 17 miles east of Sandusky, it is part of the Cleveland metropolitan area and Sandusky micropolitan area.

Brownhelm Township is one of the eighteen townships of Lorain County, Ohio, United States. As of the 2020 census, the population was 7,877. Brownhelm was the first local government of any kind in the United States to elect a black man to public office; on April 2, 1855, John Mercer Langston, a black man from Virginia, became town clerk. He later became a United States congressman.

Vermilion High School is a public high school in Vermilion, Ohio. It is the only high school in the Vermilion Local School District. The school colors are purple and gold. The sports teams are nicknamed the Sailors. The rivalry game between the Sailors and their arch rivals, the Firelands Falcons, is by far the most important game of the year for both teams.

Linwood Park is a private, family park in the city of Vermilion in the north central part of the U.S. state of Ohio on the shores of Lake Erie. It is located in the northeastern corner of Erie County.It was founded by members of the Evangelical Association as a place to hold Sunday School assemblies, church conferences, and other religious services, in a Chautauqua-like setting. It continued to be used by the United Methodist Church through the 1990s as a summer camp . Today, Linwood is a park of privately owned cottages, with a beach and many other amenities. Christian worship and other ministries continue to be held there weekly during the summer.

The Woollybear Festival is held every Fall in downtown Vermilion, Ohio, on Lake Erie. The one-day, family event, which began in 1973, features a woolly bear costume contest in which children, even pets, are dressed up as various renditions of the woolly bear caterpillar. The festival is held every year around October 1 on a Sunday on which the Cleveland Browns either have an away game or are not playing. It is touted as the largest one-day festival in Ohio, with attendance over 100,000.

First Baptist Church is a historic Baptist church at 728 Main Street in Vermilion, Ohio. It was built in 1888 and added to the National Register of Historic Places in 1979.

The Masonic Temple Building in Vermilion, Ohio, located on Main St., is a building from 1870. It was listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 1979.The current Masonic lodge in Vermillion, "Ely Lodge #424", is located at 654-1/2 Main Street.

Evangelical and Reformed Church is a historic church at the junction of Grand and Ohio Streets in Vermilion, Ohio. The church building was constructed in 1868 and added to the National Register of Historic Places in 1979. The church is now affiliated with the Conservative Congregational Christian Conference.

The Vermilion River is a river in northern Ohio in the United States. It is 66.9 miles (107.7 km) long and is a tributary of Lake Erie, draining an area of 268 square miles (690 km2). The name alludes to the reddish clay that is the predominant local soil along its route. The river is commonly muddy after rains. The river receives returns of stocked steelhead trout from the ODNR each fall through spring. This is the westernmost river, in Ohio, that the ODNR stocks yearly with steelhead trout. During the end of spring the fish return to lake Erie for the summer and will return to the river in the fall. The river is also home to smallmouth bass, largemouth bass, rock bass, channel catfish, bullhead, longnose gar, various suckers, bluegill, sunfish, carp, crappie, freshwater drum, various minnows and darters, crayfish, and a variety of aquatic insects.

The Vermilion Lighthouse is a lighthouse on the shores of Lake Erie in Vermilion, Ohio, USA. It is situated near the mouth of the Vermilion River. Erected on 23 October 1991 and dedicated on 6 June 1992, the lighthouse is illuminated by a 200 watt incandescent light bulb with a 5th order Fresnel lens. The lighthouse's United States Coast Guard-mandated light color is steady red. The current lighthouse is a 34-foot (10.4 meters) replica of the previous Vermilion Lighthouse that had been removed in 1929. Following a multi-year fundraising campaign headed by local historian Theodore Wakefield, the replica was built by the Great Lakes Historical Society using $55,000 in public contributions. Designed by architect Robert Lee Tracht of Huron, Ohio, groundbreaking for the lighthouse occurred on 24 July 1991.
