Kankakee County Courthouse

Kankakee is a city in and the county seat of Kankakee County, Illinois, United States. Located on the Kankakee River, as of 2020, the city's population was 24,052. Kankakee is a principal city of the Kankakee-Bourbonnais-Bradley Metropolitan Statistical Area. It serves as an anchor city in the rural plains outside Chicago.

The Kankakee Community Resource Center is a multi-purpose center located in Kankakee, Illinois, United States It is located in a renovated National Guard Armory. The Center has a gymnasium and an auditorium. It offers many community programs, and it is home to the Kankakee County Soldiers formerly of the International Basketball League.

The Lemuel Milk Carriage House or Stone Barn is a historic building in Kankakee, Illinois, United States. It is the last remnant of the estate of Lemuel Milk, who once owned over 25,000 acres (10,000 ha) of land.

The Kankakee Downtown Historic District is a national historic district in downtown Kankakee, Illinois. The district includes 73 buildings which form the commercial and governmental center of the city, most of which are grouped along Court Street and Schuyler Avenue. While development in the district began in the 1850s, the oldest surviving building in the district is from 1864; the newest contributing buildings are from the mid-twentieth century. Kankakee's Courthouse Square and the 1908 Kankakee County Courthouse are part of the district; other government buildings in the district include Kankakee's post office, police and fire station, and armory. Most of the district's other buildings are one- to three-story brick or stone commercial buildings. Many popular architectural styles of the nineteenth and twentieth centuries are represented in the district; the Italianate, Neoclassical, and Art Deco styles are among the most common.The district was added to the National Register of Historic Places on June 11, 2018.

Kankakee station is an Amtrak intercity train station in Kankakee, Illinois, United States. The station is a regular stop for the Illini and Saluki, and is a flag stop for the City of New Orleans, served only when passengers have tickets to and from the station.

The Pope Brace Company Building is a historic industrial building at 197 South West Avenue in Kankakee, Illinois. The building was constructed in 1922 for the Paramount Knitting Company, which was founded in Kankakee in 1893 by Henry Pope Sr. It originally housed the Paramount Textile Machinery Company, a subsidiary of the knitting company which manufactured and fixed its machinery, and the experimental division of Bear Brand Hosiery, its most popular product line. After Pope's daughter Margaret was diagnosed with polio, he established the Pope Brace Company to develop an improved leg brace for her and other polio patients, and it conducted its research in the building. The company developed the Klenzak brace, which was named for machinist John Klenzak; its use of hollow steel made it both lighter and more affordable. Pope's work introduced him to future U.S. President Franklin D. Roosevelt in 1926, whose physician team convinced him to explore hydrotherapy treatments for polio. This led to the company building the Hubbard Tank, a mass-produced hydrotherapy tank named for engineer Carl Hubbard. The company continued to manufacture these devices and other medical equipment in the building until 1979, when their operations were moved to South Carolina.The building was added to the National Register of Historic Places on September 1, 2021.

The Charles E. Swannell House is a Prairie School house in Kankakee, Illinois, United States. Designed by Tallmadge & Watson in the Prairie School style, it originally belonged to a local merchant.

The Riverview Historic District is a historic district in Kankakee, Illinois, United States. The 78.2-acre (31.6 ha) area around the Kankakee River is the oldest intact residential neighborhood in the city. It was originally settled by Emory Cobb, who used the land as pasture before deciding to erect a resort hotel. After the hotel burned down, the property was subdivided. The district includes 118 contributing buildings, including two Frank Lloyd Wright houses.

The Hunter–Hattenburg House is a historic Queen Anne-style house in Kankakee, Illinois, United States. It was built for William R. Hunter, a prominent lawyer in Kankakee who had previously served as Kankakee City Attorney and would later serve on the 12th Illinois Circuit Court. In 1942, the house was purchased by Kankakee mayor Albert F. Hattenburg.

Kankakee Township is one of seventeen townships in Kankakee County, Illinois, United States. As of the 2010 census, its population was 27,558 and it contained 11,219 housing units. This township has the smallest area in the county, but is second largest in population.
