The Virginia Zoological Park, commonly known as the Virginia Zoo, is a 53-acre (21 ha) zoo located adjacent to Lafayette Park in Norfolk, Virginia, United States. The zoo opened in 1900, and was accredited by the Association of Zoos and Aquariums (AZA) in 1987.

It is roughly bounded by Omohundro Avenue on the west, 18th Street on the south, Church Street on the east, and the Norfolk and Southern Railroad tracks to the north. The area was developed in the late 19th and early 20th centuries, and features a mix of architectural styles, from modest commercial styles to Moderne and Art Deco structures. Most of the buildings are either warehouses or light industrial plants, ranging in height from one to three stories. The land for much of this area was owned by Theodorick Williams prior to its development.The district was listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 2014.

The Riverview Historic District is a national historic district located at Norfolk, Virginia. It encompasses 200 contributing buildings in a primarily residential section of Norfolk. It developed primarily during the first quarter of the 20th century, as a suburban community north of the growing downtown area of Norfolk. The neighborhood includes notable examples of a variety of Late Victorian and Late 19th And 20th Century Revival styles.Itlisted on the National Register of Historic Places in 1999.

Southern Bagging Company, also known as Builders Supply Co. and Spaghetti Warehouse, is a historic factory building located at Norfolk, Virginia. It was built in 1918, and is a three-story, five bay by three bay, rectangular brick building. It has a flat roof and corbelled cornice. The building served as a manufacturing facility for bags for the shipping of cotton and agricultural products from the Norfolk harbor. The building subsequently housed Builders Supplies Corporation from 1924 to 1964. It housed a Spaghetti Warehouse restaurant from 1991 to 2001.It was listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 2007.

Park Place is a neighborhood in the western half of Norfolk, Virginia. Its boundaries are roughly Granby Street on the east, Colley Avenue on the west, 23rd Street on the south and up to (and including the southern half of) 38th Street to the north. It encompasses 1,525 contributing buildings, 2 contributing sites, and 5 contributing structures in the Park Place neighborhood of Norfolk. It is an example of streetcar suburban development in Norfolk during the late 19th and early 20th centuries. The neighborhood includes a variety of commercial, residential, industrial, and institutional buildings in a variety of popular styles including the Queen Anne and Shingle Style. Notable buildings include Batchelder and Collins (1904), J. W. Gamage and Son (1910), National Linen Service (1941), Best Repair Company (1938), Rosna Theater (1942), Newport Plaza and Theater (1930), Park Place Baptist Church (1903), Church of the Ascension (1915), Christian Temple (1922), Park Place Methodist Church (1949), Knox Presbyterian Church (1940), the Touraine (1915), Colonial Hall Apartments (1925), and Camellia Court (1914).

The Lafayette Residence Park is a national historic district located at Norfolk, Virginia. It encompasses 284 contributing buildings in a primarily residential section and suburban community north of the downtown area of Norfolk. It developed during the first quarter of the 20th century and includes notable examples of the Gothic Revival and Queen Anne styles. Notable non-residential buildings include the Lafayette Grammar School (1908-1910), Church of the Epiphany (1920), and the First United Methodist Church (1922).It was listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 1999.

Huntersville is a historic neighborhood in Norfolk, Virginia. It is located near downtown Norfolk. One of Norfolk's "most intact settlements remaining from the late 19th century," Huntersville "is unique because it was not planned by a company or commission, but developed over time."

Winona is a national historic district located at Norfolk, Virginia. It encompasses 203 contributing buildings in a small, cohesive residential neighborhood just north of Lafayette Residence Park in Norfolk. It was platted in 1909, and largely developed between 1916 and 1941. There are notable examples of Queen Anne and Colonial Revival style residential architecture.It was listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 2001.

Elmwood Cemetery is a historic municipal cemetery located at Norfolk, Virginia. It was established in 1853, and is filled with monuments and mausoleums that embody the pathos and symbolism of the Christian view of death as a temporary sleep. A notable monument is the Recording Angel by William Couper (1853–1942) at the Couper Family plot. The Core Mausoleum (1910–1915) designed by Harold Van Buren Magonigle (1867–1935), with sculptures by Edward Field Sanford, Jr. (1886–1951), is another notable resource.It was listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 2013. It is contiguous with West Point Cemetery, listed in 2007.

Colonial Place is a residential neighborhood in Norfolk, Virginia. It is a peninsula bordered by 38th Street on the south, and surrounded on three sides by the Lafayette River. It is a relatively racially mixed area that includes mostly single family homes and a few apartment buildings. Many large homes front the water and Mayflower Road arches around the shore of the river. The Colonial Place Historic District is a national historic district listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 2002. It encompasses 1,090 contributing buildings and 4 contributing sites in a primarily residential section of Norfolk. It is a middle-class and upper middle-class residential neighborhood that largely developed during the period 1903–1941. The neighborhood includes notable examples of the Queen Anne and Colonial Revival styles. Notable buildings include the Richard W. Peatross House (1908), Taylor House (1908) and Stuart Elementary School.

Matthew Fontaine Maury High School also known as Maury High School, is a high school located in the Ghent area of Norfolk, Virginia, United States. Maury's school mascot is the Commodore. The high school is named for Matthew Fontaine Maury. In 2007, Newsweek placed Maury High School in the top 1300 of America's Top Public High Schools. Maury High School and rival Granby High School were the only schools from the Norfolk Public School system to place. Maury High School has a Pre-Medical Health and Specialities Program for 9th-12th graders. It is the only school in the district to have this type of speciality program.

The Norfolk and Western Railroad Historic District encompasses an historic industrial district of Norfolk, Virginia. Centered on the tracks of the Norfolk and Western Railroad between Bowden's Ferry Road and Monticello Avenue, it extends as much as three blocks north and south of the tracks, including within its bounds most of the industrial resources found in that area. This area was developed roughly between 1890 and the 1930s, and includes fine examples of late 19th century commercial brick architecture, and a few fine examples of Art Deco styling. The district partially overlaps the Park Place Historic District to the north, and the Williamston-Woodland Historic District to the south.The district was listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 2015.
