Harptree Court

East Harptree is a village and civil parish in Somerset, England. It is situated 5 miles (8.0 km) north of Wells and 15 miles (24.1 km) south of Bristol, on the northern slope of the Mendip Hills overlooking the Chew Valley. The parish has a population of 644. The parish includes the hamlet of Coley.

The Church of St Laurence in East Harptree, Somerset, England, was built in the late 12th century. It is a Grade II* listed building.The original 12th-century church was expanded in the 13th century and the tower added in the 15th. The three-stage west tower, which was built in the 15th century is supported by diagonal buttresses. The parapet was restored in 1633. The tower has a small polygonal turret in the north west corner and a parapet with gargoyles beneath it. It contains six bells. New seating was provided during repairs in the 1880s.The parish is now part of the benefice of East Harptree with West Harptree and Hinton Blewett, Litton with Chewton Mendip within the archdeaconry of Wells.

Richmont Castle was an 11th-century motte-and-bailey castle near the village of East Harptree, Somerset, England. Now totally ruined, it once included parkland, an artificial lake and served as the local minery court.

Harptree Combe (grid reference ST561558) is a 13.63-hectare (33.68-acre) Site of Special Scientific Interest (SSSI) near East Harptree notified in 1954. "Combe" or "coombe" is a West Country word meaning a steep-sided valley. It is also the site of a 19th-century aqueduct and is overlooked by the site of a castle dating from around 1100. In August 2009, 22.67 acres (9.17 ha) of the Combe were purchased by Alan Sheppard for £60,000. He became the third owner since 1805, the previous sale being in 1922.

West Harptree is a small village and civil parish in the Chew Valley, Somerset within the unitary district of Bath and North East Somerset. The parish has a population of 439.The village is 13 miles (20.9 km) south of Bristol, 15 miles (24.1 km) southwest of Bath and 17 miles (27 km) east of Weston-super-Mare. It is just south of Chew Valley Lake on the A368 between Bishop Sutton and Compton Martin. The village has a pub and several shops including a post office. With its close neighbour East Harptree the villages are collectively known as the Harptrees.

Eastwood Manor is a Grade II listed building in the village of East Harptree in the English County of Somerset.

Gournay Court in the parish of West Harptree, Somerset, England, is a country house built circa 1600. The house, along with the manor of West Harptree, was owned by the Duchy of Cornwall. During World War I, it became a hospital. In 1928, it was bought by Sir Edward Geoffrey Hippisley-Cox. It is now the residence of the local Member of Parliament (MP) Jacob Rees-Mogg and his family. The house is built of red sandstone and, along with a barn in the grounds and its gates and railings, is now a listed building.

Eastwood Manor Farm Steading in East Harptree, Somerset, England is a Grade I listed building.The farm including the site for the construction of Eastwood Manor was bought by Charles Adams Kemble (son of the Reverend Charles Kemble, rector of Bath) in the 1860s. A series of fishponds were created on the farm by damming a small stream.The barn covers 1.25 acres (0.51 ha) with 5 bays to the main facade. Cast iron pillars support the brickwork and wagon roof. It contained several feed stores, two bullock yards with fountains, a flax mill, cider press and threshing machine. The machinery was powered by a water mill which was replaced by steam, oil and diesel engines.

Smitham Chimney is a chimney which was used for lead mining just outside the village of East Harptree, in the parish of Priddy, Somerset, England. It is a Grade II listed building.The circular chimney has two types of red brick in its upper portion. There is a narrow opening at the base of the chimney.It was built by the 'East Harptree Lead Works Co Ltd' in 1867, and by 1870 was producing 1,000 tons per annum. The company was largely unsuccessful and the industry only lasted for a few years. The chimney was threatened to be demolished in 1973, by the Somerset County Council but was protected from demolition. Because of the pollution the site supports a population of lead moss (Ditrichum plumbicola).

Litton Reservoirs (also known as Coley Reservoirs) (grid reference ST590553) are two reservoirs near the village of Litton, Somerset, England. They are operated by Bristol Water. They lie on the boundary between Bath and North East Somerset and Mendip districts. The individual lakes are called Lower Litton and Upper Litton. The former is 8 acres (32,000 m2) in size, the latter 16 acres (65,000 m2) and much deeper. They were built around 1850 by the Bristol Waterworks Company in conjunction with the "Line of Works" to bring water from the Mendip Hills to Bristol.A public footpath goes around the lakes and across the dam. The banks are home to a variety of flowers including; Primroses (Primula vulgaris), Common Bluebell (Hyacinthoides non-scripta, sometimes Endymion non-scriptus or Scilla non-scripta), Wood anemone (Anemone nemorosa), Violets and Campion.Several species of birds are frequent visitors including; Moorhen (Gallinula), Coot (Fulica), Mallard (Anas platyrhynchos), Swan and Tufted duck (Aythya fuligula).Fishing (under permit) is generally for rainbow (Oncorhynchus mykiss) and brown trout (Salmo trutta). Fish breeding takes place in the netted area immediately below the upper dam is the site for fish breeding.

Compton Martin is a small village and civil parish within the Chew Valley in Somerset and in the Bath and North East Somerset unitary authority in England. The parish has a population of 508. It lies between Chew Valley Lake and Blagdon Lake, north of the Mendip Hills, approximately 10 miles (16 km) south of Bristol on the A368 road Weston-super-Mare to Bath, between Blagdon and West Harptree. A spring rises near the church and feeds the village duck pond, which used to power a paper mill, and ultimately becomes the River Yeo. The Big Green Gathering takes place at Fernhill Farm above the village.
