Springfield Park (Queens)

The Queens Detention Facility (QDF) is a federal prison in the Springfield Gardens neighborhood of Jamaica, Queens, New York City, and operated by the private prison company GEO Group. The facility opened in March 1997 under a contract between GEO Group and the U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement. When that agreement was not extended by ICE past its mid-2005 expiration, the United States Marshals Service contracted with GEO to house mostly pre-trial federal detainees here. The complex stands within an unmarked former warehouse in an industrial area adjacent to John F. Kennedy Airport, the entry point for many asylum seekers. In 2020, press reports indicated the facility was most used to house prisoners who were cooperating with the government.This facility is not to be confused with the Queens Detention Complex, a municipal jail operated by the New York City Department of Correction at 126-01 82nd Avenue, Kew Gardens.

Springfield Gardens is a neighborhood in the southeastern area of the New York City borough of Queens, bounded to the north by St. Albans, to the east by Laurelton and Rosedale, to the south by John F. Kennedy International Airport, and to the west by Farmers Boulevard. The neighborhood is served by Queens Community Board 12. The area, particularly east of Springfield Boulevard, is sometimes also referred to as Brookville.

Higbie Avenue was a railroad station along the Atlantic Branch of the Long Island Rail Road, in Queens, New York City. The station was located on 140th Avenue (formerly Higbie Avenue) and Edgewood Avenue in the Springfield section of Queens, New York City between Locust Manor and Laurelton stations.

Laurelton is a station on the Long Island Rail Road's Atlantic Branch, in the Laurelton neighborhood of Queens, New York City. It is 14.9 miles (24.0 km) from Penn Station in Midtown Manhattan. The station is located at the intersection of 225th Street and 141st Road. On weekdays, the station is served by Far Rockaway Branch trains and Long Beach Branch trains bypass the station. This setup is reversed on weekends. As this station is in fare zone 3, it is eligible for the weekend's CityTicket program.

Springfield Junction was a junction between the Long Island Rail Road's Montauk Branch and Atlantic Branch in Laurelton, Queens, New York City, United States. It was located at the place where those two branches now begin to parallel, just east of Laurelton station and half a mile east of Springfield Boulevard. No rail station was located at the junction itself, however Springfield Gardens station was located nearby.

Locust Manor is a neighborhood in the New York City borough of Queens. It is bordered on the north by Baisley Boulevard to Irwin Place to Roe Road to 120th Avenue, on the east by the tracks of the Long Island Rail Road to 121st Avenue to Farmers Boulevard, on the south by North Conduit Boulevard, and on the west by Guy R. Brewer Boulevard to 137th Avenue to 173rd Street to 134th Road to Bedell Street.: 102  Nearby neighborhoods include Jamaica, South Jamaica, and Rochdale Village. Locust Manor, which was named after a 1906 residential development in the area, was formerly the location of the Jamaica Race Course, which operated from 1903 to 1959, and was torn down in 1960 in order to construct Rochdale Village. Locust Manor is a "quiet residential neighborhood": 104  which is home to a predominantly African American and Afro-Caribbean constituency of middle-class income. Locust Manor Estates, on 172nd Street and Baisley Boulevard, is a state-subsidized residential complex of two- and three-family homes, cooperative apartments and senior-living units, subsidized through the New York City Housing Partnership.The neighborhood is served by the Locust Manor station on the Long Island Rail Road, located at Farmers Boulevard and Bedell Street, which offers service to Manhattan by both the Far Rockaway and Long Beach branches.

Today it contains fiberglass populuxe designed shelters on high-level platforms. On weekdays, the station is served by Far Rockaway Branch trains and Long Beach Branch trains bypass the station. This setup is reversed on weekends.

Springfield Gardens was an island platform station that existed along the Babylon-Montauk Branch of the Long Island Rail Road, in the Springfield Gardens, Queens section of Queens, New York City. The station was located between St. Albans and Rosedale Stations, north of Springfield Junction. The only visible evidence of the station today is a wide gap between the tracks.

Eastern Air Lines Flight 66 was a regularly scheduled flight from New Orleans to New York City that crashed on June 24, 1975 while on approach to New York's John F. Kennedy International Airport, killing 113 of the 124 people on board.: 1  The crash was determined to be caused by wind shear caused by a microburst, but the failure of the airport and the flight crew to recognize the severe weather hazard was also a contributing factor.: 1 

Rochdale Village (pronounced ) is a housing cooperative and neighborhood in the southeastern corner of the New York City borough of Queens. Located in Community District 12, Rochdale Village is grouped as part of Greater Jamaica, corresponding to the former Town of Jamaica. It is adjacent to four other Queens neighborhoods: St. Albans to the east, South Jamaica to the west, Locust Manor to the north, and Springfield Gardens to the south across the Belt Parkway. Rochdale is about 2 miles (3.2 km) from the Queens/Nassau border and about 1 mile (1.6 km) north of John F. Kennedy International Airport.

Laurelton is a largely middle-class neighborhood in the New York City borough of Queens and part of the former town of Jamaica. Merrick Boulevard, which bisects the community in a generally east–west direction, forms its commercial spine. It is bounded by Springfield Boulevard to the west, 121st Avenue to the north, Laurelton Parkway to the east, and Conduit Avenue to the south. Laurelton is located in Queens Community District 13 and its ZIP Codes are 11413 and 11422. It is patrolled by the New York City Police Department's 105th Precinct.

Jamaica Race Course, also called the Jamaica Racetrack, was an American thoroughbred horse racing facility operated by the Metropolitan Jockey Club in Jamaica, Queens, New York City.
