The Royal Albert Edward Infirmary, also known as the Wigan Infirmary, is a health facility in Wigan Lane, Wigan, Greater Manchester, England. It is managed by the Wrightington, Wigan and Leigh NHS Foundation Trust.

The Battle of Wigan Lane was fought on 25 August 1651 during the Third English Civil War, between a Royalist army led by the Earl of Derby and forces loyal to the Commonwealth of England under Colonel Robert Lilburne. The Royalists were defeated, losing nearly half their officers and men.

Mab's Cross, in Wigan, Greater Manchester, is a stone cross probably dating from the 13th century with its first recorded mention taking place in 1277 SD58520626. It is one of four stone crosses originally used as waymarkers along the medieval route from Wigan to Chorley. The cross no longer stands in its original position, having been moved across the road in 1922 as part of a road widening scheme.

St Mary's Church is a Roman Catholic Parish church in the Standishgate area of Wigan, Greater Manchester. It was built in 1818 and is a Grade II* listed building. It is in the Wigan deanery of the Archdiocese of Liverpool. It is within 200 feet of another Catholic church, St John's Church. They were built in a spirit of competition with each other.

The 1992 World Club Challenge match was contested by the 1991–92 Rugby Football League season champions Wigan and the 1992 NSWRL season's premiers, the Brisbane Broncos. The match took place on Friday night, 30 October in England, during the 1992–93 Rugby Football League season. It was also played less than a week after the 1992 Rugby League World Cup Final (from which many players on both sides were backing up). A crowd of 17,764 turned out at Central Park, Wigan for the match which was refereed by New Zealand's Dennis Hale, the same referee as for the World Cup final one week earlier.The game was broadcast throughout Great Britain by Sky Sports and was shown on delay in Australia by the Nine Network. Commentary was provided by Sky's regular rugby league commentary team of Eddie Hemmings and former Great Britain hooker Mike Stephenson along with Nine's former Australian test halfback Peter Sterling.

Central Park was a rugby league stadium in Wigan, England, which was the home of Wigan RLFC before the club moved to the JJB Stadium in 1999. Its final capacity was 18,000. The site is now a Tesco supermarket car park.

St John's Church is a Roman Catholic Church in Standishgate, Wigan, Greater Manchester. It is within 200 feet of another Catholic church, St Mary's. Construction on both churches, was done in a spirit of competition, so they both were finished in the same year, 1819. The competition was because St John's Church was originally served by the Society of Jesus, whereas St Mary's was always served by priests from the diocese. However, the Jesuits gave the church to the Archdiocese of Liverpool in 1933. It is a Grade II* listed building and the sanctuary inside the church was designed by Joseph John Scoles.

Mesnes Park (English: (Mains) is a Victorian public park dating from 1878 in Wigan, Greater Manchester, UK. The elongated 12 hectares (30 acres) park lies to the north-west of Wigan town centre with its main entrance at the junction of Bridgeman Terrace and Mesnes Park Terrace. It comprises formal flower beds in grass lawns, a pool, children's playgrounds, mini golf, sports grounds and a café. It has recently undergone a multi-million pound restoration after receiving a grant from the Heritage Lottery Fund.

University Technical College Wigan (or Wigan UTC) was a university technical college (UTC) sixth form that opened in Wigan, Greater Manchester, England in September 2013. Wigan UTC specialised in process engineering and environmental technologies, and was located in the historic O & C Rushton Warehouse building in Wigan town centre. Sponsors of the UTC included the University of Central Lancashire and Wigan & Leigh College.Wigan UTC had an initial intake of students aged 14 and 16 (academic years 10 and 12) in 2013, however from 2015 the college stopped enrolling under 16's and only offered a sixth form provision. The college closed in July 2019 as a lack of students made it financially unviable.

The Galleries is a shopping complex in the town centre of Wigan, Greater Manchester owned by Wigan Council. It is divided into three sections formed from three formally independent schemes: The Galeries Shopping Centre, Marketgate Shopping Centre and The Makinson Arcade. The eight-acre complex features a combination of enclosed malls, walkways and open squares, and accounts for almost a quarter of the town centre's footprint. In total there is around 440,000 square feet (41,000 m2) of retail space.

The Wigan Casino was a nightclub in Wigan, England. Operating between 1973 and 1981, it became known as a primary venue for Northern soul music. It carried forward the legacy created by clubs such as the Twisted Wheel in Manchester, the Chateau Impney (Droitwich), the Catacombs (Wolverhampton) and the Golden Torch (Tunstall, Stoke-on-Trent). It remains one of the most famous clubs in Northern England. In 1978, allegedly the American music magazine Billboard voted Wigan Casino "The Best Disco in the World", ahead of New York City's Studio 54. Although there is no tangible evidence of this award ever being publicised. This England, a TV documentary about the Wigan Casino, was filmed in 1977. Russ Winstanley and Dave Nowell wrote a history of the club, Soul Survivors, The Wigan Casino Story, which was published in 1996. A stage play by Mick Martin about the Wigan Casino years, Once upon a time in Wigan, debuted in February 2003 at the Contact Theatre in Manchester and has since toured nationally.

Wigan Central railway station was a railway station near the centre of Wigan, Lancashire, England.
