Harpenden Common Golf Club

Southdown Road Skew Bridge is a ribbed skew arch railway bridge, which carries the Midland Main Line across Southdown Road in Harpenden, Hertfordshire. Built of brick by the Midland Railway and opening in 1868, it is notable for its extreme skew angle of approximately 65°.

Rothamsted Research, previously known as the Rothamsted Experimental Station and then the Institute of Arable Crops Research, is one of the oldest agricultural research institutions in the world, having been founded in 1843. The Ahm House at 44 West Common Way is a house in Harpenden in Hertfordshire, England. It was built between 1961 and 1963 by the structural engineer Povl Ahm, a partner of Ove Arup, for himself to a design by the Danish architect Jørn Utzon. Ahm, Arup and Utzon were working on the design and construction of Sydney Opera House at the time of the house's construction.The house has been listed Grade II on the National Heritage List for England since July 1998. In their official listed building report Historic England described the house as "a distinguished and beautifully detailed modern house, in the idiom of an important architect who built relatively little". Nikolaus Pevsner in the Hertfordshire edition of his Buildings of England series described the Ahm House as an "interesting modern house ... [that] makes no concessions to the outsider nor to the genteel facadism of its neighbours. All that one sees from the road is a yawning carport with a rhythm of projecting concrete beam-ends above, and a tall blank yellow brick wall on the right".

Childwickbury Stud is a Thoroughbred horse breeding farm near St Albans, Hertfordshire, England. Originally built in 1888 by Sir John Blundell Maple as part of his Childwickbury estate, he bred and raced Thoroughbreds and built Childwickbury Stud into a very successful horse breeding operation. Another prominent racehorse owner, Jack Barnato Joel, bought the estate including the stud farm around 1906. On his death in 1940, his son Jim Joel took over the operation. He too became a successful racehorse owner and breeder and maintained the property until 1978 when the stud and the manor were sold separately. Childwickbury Stud was then bought by the Marquesa de Moratella.. [1]. In December 2011 the Childwickbury Stud [2] was sold and is currently owned by Mr Paul Flatt & Mrs Sally Flatt. The Stud Manager is John Hernon.

Childwickbury is a hamlet in Hertfordshire, England, lying to the north of St Albans in the parish of St Michael. Childwickbury Manor was home to Stanley Kubrick from 1978 until his death in 1999. Many of the buildings in Childwickbury are listed, including the well on the Green.

Lydekker Park is a 3-acre (1.2 ha) park in Harpenden, Hertfordshire. The land was formerly part of the garden of Harpenden Lodge, built in 1803, home for many years to the Lydekkers, one of the town's oldest families. In 1937 Hilda Lydekker, last surviving member of the Lydekker family, entered into an agreement with the former Harpenden Urban District Council that the 11 acres (4.5 ha) of land attached to Harpenden lodge should become an open space for the people of Harpenden. Her intention was that the open space should be a memorial to her two brothers and her fiancé, all of whom died in World War I. However, following the death of Miss Lydekker in 1987, shortly before her 101st birthday, her relatives were able to overturn the terms of her will, and the land was subsequently sold for development. Harpenden Town Council made strenuous efforts to have all, or at least part of, the area retained as open space. The Town Council had some measure of control as the developers were depending upon the Town Council to obtain planning permission to develop the site. In the end, only 3 acres (1.2 ha) out of the original 11 were given over to parkland and adjoining carpark, which is leased to the Harpenden Town Council at peppercorn rent. The park was opened to the public on 1 July 1998.

Batford is a village in Hertfordshire, England, located on the River Lea on the outskirts of Harpenden. Batford Springs is a local nature reserve alongside the river and the village green, which has a small play area for children. The large red brick building at the southern end of the village between the river and the Lower Luton Road was originally a water mill. It is now used as offices, and the river has been diverted around the building. Batford Methodist Church built in 1905 and shows the distinctive "modern" architecture of that time. During World War II a large prisoner of war camp was located in Batford, adjoining what is now Common Lane, and prisoners were present there until about 1947. When they had gone, the camp buildings were used to house local people who were waiting for housing, which was in short supply at the time. Within a few years, a large housing estate was built on the site of the POW camp by the local authority. Batford has a Tesco Express/filling station, a Co-op supermarket, a fish and chip shop, two pubs, an Indian takeaway, and various other shops and small factory units. It is in the civil parish of Harpenden.
