Dayton Historic District (Dayton, Virginia)

Dayton is a town in Rockingham County, Virginia, United States. The population is 1,530 as of the 2010 census. It is included in the Harrisonburg, Virginia Metropolitan Statistical Area.

Daniel Harrison House, also known as Fort Harrison, is a historic home located near Dayton, Rockingham County, Virginia. The original structure was built in 1748 as a two-story, three bay limestone dwelling, with a steep gable roof and wide chimney caps. A brick extension was added in the early 1800s. It was originally surrounded by a palisade and was reported to have an underground passage to the nearby spring. During the French and Indian War, the legislature of Virginia designated the house and surrounding property "Fort Harrison." The house is one of the oldest in the Shenandoah Valley, and is closely associated with the early history of Rockingham County.The home's original owner, Captain Daniel Harrison, was one of the first to use the plentiful supply of limestone for building. His stone house is referred to in one of his first deeds, dated February 28, 1749, in Rockingham County Deed Book 2, p. 586 - "Daniel Harrison, Gent. to Arthur Johnson, 190 acres; 10 acres; Cook's Creek–Harrison's stonehouse". In 1745, Captain Harrison was appointed by the Court of Orange County, along with brother John and Robert Cravens, as overseer to lay out and clear the old Indian Road – "The Long Grey Trail" – through what is now Rockingham County. This was destined to be the most traveled highway in the Shenandoah Valley. In 1751, Capt. Harrison became Under Sheriff of Augusta CountyThe site was listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 1973.Fort Harrison is open to the public on Friday and Saturday in the summer and by appointment.

Peter Paul House is a historic home located near Dayton, Rockingham County, Virginia. It was built about 1810, and is a two-story, two-bay, stuccoed Rhenish Plan log dwelling. It has a gable roof and rubble limestone chimney. A three-bay brick ell was added about 1829. It is one of a small group of Continental farmhouses surviving as relics of the heavy Swiss and German settlement in the Shenandoah Valley.It was listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 1979.

Mole Hill is a rounded hill composed of basalt, a volcanic rock, formed during the Eocene epoch of the Paleogene period. It is the eroded remnant of what was an active volcano approximately 47 million years ago, making it one of the youngest volcanoes on the east coast of North America. It is located west of Harrisonburg, Virginia, in Rockingham County.

Signal Hill is a historic home and farm complex located at Culpeper, Culpeper County, Virginia. The farmhouse was built about 1900, and is a two-story, asymmetrically cruciform brick house, in a refined, late-Victorian style. It features a one-story, 13-bay, wraparound porch with a hipped roof. Also on the property are the following contributing elements: three gable-roofed frame barns, two concrete silos, two frame gable-roof sheds, and a small gable-roof pump house.It was listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 1999.

Belmont Estates is a census-designated place in Rockingham County, Virginia. The population as of the 2010 Census was 1,263. It is a suburban bedroom community just to the west of Harrisonburg.

Dale Enterprise is an unincorporated community in Rockingham County, Virginia, United States. The name dates to 1872, when it was time to name the village's post office. The place was previously known as Millersville, after the Miller family who ran an early store there. After the Civil War, Mr. J. W. Minnick started a new mercantile “enterprise” at the crossroads of Silver Lake Road and Route 33. Minnick’s store was located near a “dale,” so the chosen name became Dale Enterprise.

Harrisonburg High School (HHS), part of the Harrisonburg City School System, is a public high school located in Harrisonburg, Virginia, United States. HHS serves grades nine through twelve, and its athletic teams are known as the Blue Streaks. In October 2017, 1782 students were enrolled. It was rated "Fully Accredited" by the Virginia Department of Education for the 2017–2018 school year.

George Earman House, also known as the Earman-Logan House, is a historic home located in Harrisonburg, Virginia, United States. It was built about 1822, and was originally a two-story, five-bay, brick I-house dwelling. The main entrance was reversed to the rear three bay side by the late-19th century, and a one-story ell had been added off the former front facade. The interior features a showy Federal interior with original painting in the first floor south parlor.It was listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 1982.
