The Virginia Military Institute Historic District is a 12-acre (4.9 ha) National Historic Landmark District encompassing the historic central core of the Virginia Military Institute campus in Lexington, Virginia. Developed beginning in 1839, the school grew into the premiere military academy in the Southern United States, providing trained military leaders to many of the nation's wars. The district includes the Barracks, which was separately declared a National Historic Landmark in 1965. The historic district was designated in 1974.

The Old Barracks is a historic building on the campus of the Virginia Military Institute in Lexington, Virginia. Built in 1848 and repeatedly enlarged and redesigned by a succession of architects, it includes at its core the oldest surviving building of the campus. The building was declared a National Historic Landmark in 1965 for its architecture and its association with nation's oldest state-supported military academy.

Cameron Hall is a 5,029–seat multi-purpose arena in Lexington, Virginia. It was built in 1981 and is home to the Virginia Military Institute Keydets basketball team. Although mainly used for basketball, the arena also holds VMI's commencement every May, as well as other large-scale events. It was named after brothers Bruce and Daniel Cameron, VMI Class of 1938 and 1942, respectively.

Alumni Memorial Field at Foster Stadium is a 10,000-seat multi-purpose stadium in Lexington, Virginia, United States. It opened in 1962. It is home to the Virginia Military Institute Keydets football team.

The Virginia Military Institute (VMI) is a public senior military college in Lexington, Virginia. It was founded in 1839 as America's first state military college and is the oldest public senior military college in the United States. In keeping with its founding principles and unlike any other senior military college in the United States, VMI enrolls cadets only and awards bachelor's degrees exclusively. The institute grants degrees in 14 disciplines in engineering, science, and the liberal arts.All VMI cadets must participate in the Reserve Officers' Training Corps (ROTC) of the United States Armed Forces programs, but are afforded the flexibility of pursuing civilian endeavors or accepting an officer's commission in the active or reserve components of one of the six U.S. military branches upon graduation. Approximately 65% of VMI graduates enter the military upon graduation, making it one of the largest producers of officers for the United States Army and Marine Corps each year.

Gray–Minor Stadium is a 1,400-seat facility home to the Virginia Military Institute (VMI) Keydets baseball team in Lexington, Virginia. It is named after Elmon T. Gray and Gil Minor, graduates of VMI in 1946 and 1963, respectively.

Patchin Field is a 1,000 seat facility that is home to the Virginia Military Institute (VMI) Keydets men's and women's soccer teams, along with being the practice facility for the VMI lacrosse team. Patchin Field is built over top of Woods Creek, along with VMI's baseball facility, Gray–Minor Stadium. Paulette Hall contains locker rooms for VMI baseball, lacrosse, and men's and women's soccer. Patchin Field is named after Herb Patchin, an athletic trainer at VMI for thirty-four years.

Lylburn Downing School is a historic school building for African-American children located at Lexington, Virginia. It was built in 1926–1927, and is a one-story, Classical Revival style brick building. It has a columned entry porch and pilasters. A rear addition was constructed in 1939–1940, and a covered walkway in 1948–1949. The City of Lexington converted the original building into a community center in the late 1980s.Lylburn Downing Middle School currently serves as a small, city school located in Lexington, Virginia in the southwest Virginia Appalachian Mountains. The school serves 189 students in grades 6–8, with ages ranging from 11 to 15 years old. It was listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 2003.

Cormack Field House or "The Pit" is the track and field facility for the Virginia Military Institute (VMI) Keydets, located in Lexington, Virginia. It was VMI's home for basketball until 1981, when Cameron Hall was completed as the new VMI basketball arena. Cormack Field House is named after Walt Cormack, a VMI track coach for twenty-five years and who also started the "Winter Relays".

First Baptist Church, originally known as Lexington African Baptist Church, is a historic Baptist church building in the city of Lexington, Virginia, United States. It was built between 1894 and 1896, and is a large brick church on a limestone basement in the Gothic Revival style. It has a front gable roof, round and lancet-arch stained glass windows, and towers at its two front corners. The right hand tower has a belfry and spire. The interior consists of a barrel-vaulted auditorium with a gallery on turned posts and the basement has classroom and meeting spaces. Historically First Baptist played a central role in the life of Lexington's African-American community.It was listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 2006.

The Lexington Historic District is a national historic district located at Lexington, Virginia. It includes 11 contributing buildings on 600 acres (240 ha) and dates from 1823. It includes Greek Revival, Queen Anne, "Picturesque Cottage", and other architecture. Notable buildings include Washington Hall located on the campus of Washington and Lee University, the Virginia Military Institute, Court House, Presbyterian Manse, Halestones, and The Castle. Located in the district are the separately listed Alexander-Withrow House, Barracks, Virginia Military Institute, the Stonewall Jackson House, Lee Chapel, Lexington Presbyterian Church, Reid-White-Philbin House, and Stono.It was listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 1972.

University Chapel (formerly Lee Chapel) of Washington and Lee University is a National Historic Landmark in Lexington, Virginia. It was constructed during 1867–68 at the request of Robert E. Lee, who was president of the school (then known as Washington College), and after whom the university is, in part, named. The Victorian brick architectural design was probably the work of Lee's son, George Washington Custis Lee, with details contributed by Col. Thomas Williamson, an architect and professor of engineering at the neighboring Virginia Military Institute. Upon completion and during Robert E. Lee's lifetime it was known as the College Chapel. Lee was buried beneath the chapel in 1870.
