Douglas House, Petersham

The German School London (German: Deutsche Schule London; DSL) is an independent school based in the grounds of Douglas House in Petersham in the London Borough of Richmond upon Thames. It is accredited by the German government's Central Agency for German Schools Abroad, as a "Deutsche Auslandsschule" ("German School Abroad").The school includes a kindergarten, pre-school, elementary school, middle school and upper school. The German School London is one of approximately 140 schools that the Federal Republic of Germany established internationally to promote the German culture and language in other countries. The German School London has established a bilingual system so that students can, in addition to completing the German Abitur, also choose graduate with the International Baccalaureate Diploma.

Petersham Lodge is a Grade II listed house on River Lane, Petersham in the London Borough of Richmond upon Thames. Rebuilt in the early 18th century for Catherine Douglas, Duchess of Queensberry, it is a former grace-and-favour mansion.

The Petersham Hole was a sink hole caused by subsidence of a sewer which forced the total closure of the A307 road in Petersham in the London Borough of Richmond upon Thames in 1979–80. It caused long-term disruption to traffic in the surrounding area and significant direct and indirect costs.

Petersham is a village in the London Borough of Richmond upon Thames on the east of the bend in the River Thames south of Richmond, which it shares with neighbouring Ham. It provides the foreground of the scenic view from Richmond Hill across Petersham Meadows, with Ham House further along the river. Other nearby places include Twickenham, Isleworth, Teddington, Mortlake and Roehampton.

Montrose House is a late 17th-century Grade II* listed building at 186 Petersham Road, Petersham in the London Borough of Richmond upon Thames.The house was built for Sir Thomas Jenner, Justice of the Common Pleas under James II, but is named after the Dowager Duchess of Montrose (widow of the 3rd Duke) who lived there from 1837 to 1847. In the 1870s it was occupied by John Master, a retired magistrate from the Indian Colonial Service, his wife Gertrude, and his children. One of his daughters, Hilda Master, went on to become the mother of Sir Anthony Blunt. It was bought by the entertainer Tommy Steele in 1969 and sold by him in about 2004.The house is located at a sharp right-angled bend on Petersham Road (part of the A307). After a spate of serious accidents on the bend in the road, the neighbours formed a group in the 1850s called Trustees of the Road. The Hon. Algernon Tollemache of Ham House was their leader and they managed to persuade the owner of Montrose House to part with some land to reduce the sharpness of the bend. However, various dents in the brick wall today reveal that motorists are still taken unawares by it.Adjacent to Montrose House is Rutland Lodge, built in 1660 for a Lord Mayor of London.

Sudbrook and its tributary, the Latchmere stream, are north-flowing streams in London, England, that drain northern Kingston upon Thames and the eastern extreme of Ham following a meander scar in a terrace; the upper part of the Sudbrook drains a narrow vale in Richmond Park's southern corner into the tidal Thames.

St Peter's Church is the parish church of the village of Petersham in the London Borough of Richmond upon Thames. It is part of the Diocese of Southwark in the Church of England. The main body of the church building dates from the 16th century, although parts of the chancel are 13th century and evidence in Domesday Book suggests that there may have been a church on the site in Saxon times. Nikolaus Pevsner and Bridget Cherry describe it as a "church of uncommon charm... [whose] interior is well preserved in its pre-Victorian state". The church, which is Grade II* listed, includes Georgian box pews, a two-decker pulpit made in 1796, and a display of the royal arms of the House of Hanover, installed in 1810. Its classical organ was installed at the south end in late 2009 by the Swiss builders Manufacture d'Orgues St Martin of Neuchâtel, and a separate parish room was added in 2018. Many notable people are buried in the churchyard, which includes some Grade II-listed tombs.

Ham Polo Club is a Hurlingham Polo Association polo club situated in Richmond in the London Borough of Richmond upon Thames, south-west London, England. It is one of the oldest polo clubs in the United Kingdom and the last surviving club in London. The club occupies a location between Richmond Park and the River Thames overlooked by Ham House, eight miles from Hyde Park Corner. The club's facilities include three polo fields (two boarded), a stick and ball field, an exercise track, livery service, coaching and a members' clubhouse with a restaurant and bar which is managed by Blue Strawberry Group. Polo is played at Ham Polo Club between May and September. The club has around 70 playing members and several hundred social members.

Glover's Island (originally called Petersham Ait) is in a tree-lined section of river, formerly known as Horse Reach on the tidal Thames, between Richmond Lock and Teddington Lock in the Borough of Richmond upon Thames, London, England.

Petersham Meadows are a 24-acre water-meadow that lie alongside the River Thames in Petersham, London, bounded by Buccleuch Gardens, Manor Farm Livery Stables, the main Petersham Road (A307) and River Lane. The Capital Ring footpath crosses the meadow to reach Petersham and the Thames Path follows the towpath. Petersham Meadows were originally part of the Ham House estate. Since 1902 the view from Richmond Hill has been protected by an Act of Parliament. There have been cows on the meadow since at least the 19th century. In 1880 the tenancy was taken by Mr Hornby, who used the milk to supply the Hornby and Clarke dairy. Their shop is still on Richmond Hill, although no longer a dairy. The lease passed to Express Dairies but in 1982 a private investor took the lease but was unable to maintain a dairy herd. In 1998 the Petersham Trust was set up to protect the Meadows and preserve it for grazing. Richmond Council took over management of the Meadows in 2001. The National Trust have been caretaker since 2010 and pay an annual rent on St Peter's Day of a posy of wildflowers for the Mayor of Richmond. Originally they had cows on the field, but after incidents with dogs these were replaced. Every summer they move a small herd of Belted Galloway cattle on to the meadow to help maintain the biodiversity.The view over the meadows has been painted by Sir Joshua Reynolds, J. M. W. Turner and many others.
