Herblay-sur-Seine

The canton of Herblay-sur-Seine (before 2021: Herblay) is an administrative division of the Val-d'Oise department, Île-de-France region, northern France. Its borders were modified at the French canton reorganisation which came into effect in March 2015. Its seat is in Herblay-sur-Seine.It consists of the following communes: La Frette-sur-Seine Herblay-sur-Seine Montigny-lès-Cormeilles

La Frette-sur-Seine (French pronunciation: [la fʁɛt syʁ sɛn] (listen), literally La Frette on Seine) is a commune in the Val-d'Oise department in Île-de-France in northern France.

The Hippodrome de Maisons-Laffitte at 1 avenue de la Pelouse in the northwestern Parisian suburb of Maisons-Laffitte in France was a turf horse racing facility and track for Thoroughbred flat racing. Opened in 1878 by Joseph Oller, inventor of the pari-mutuel machine, it sits on 92 hectares that belonged to the wealthy banker Jacques Laffitte. The nearby Château de Maisons-Laffitte is home to The Museum of the Racehorse. In November 2018 France Galop announced that the racecourse would close at the end of 2019 due to financial pressures on the organisation. The final meeting was held on 29th October 2019. Despite the efforts of local government officials there are no plans to re-open the track and the racing surface has been allowed fall into disrepair.The racecourse layout was unique as it was one of the few courses in the world that staged both left- and right-handed races. Montigny-lès-Cormeilles (French pronunciation: [mɔ̃tiɲi lɛ kɔʁmɛj] (listen), literally Montigny near Cormeilles) is a commune in Val d'Oise, in the northwestern suburbs of Paris, France. It is located 19.0 km (11.8 mi) from the center of Paris.

The Fort de Cormeilles-en-Parisis was constructed between 1874 and 1877 as part of a new plan for the defense of Paris developed by General Raymond Adolphe Séré de Rivières, near the town of Cormeilles-en-Parisis. During the Franco-Prussian War, German troops had used the hill upon which the fort sits as a spotting and firing location, ideal for the siting of new rifled guns whose range was increased over old-fashioned smooth-bore guns. These weapons could attack Paris from Cormeilles, so a new outer ring of forts had to be built outside the first ring of forts built in 1840–1860 to deny the area to enemy gunners. The Séré de Rivières system was designed as a response to these technological innovations, and to the loss of French territories in Alsace and Lorraine.

Its population was 278,166 in 2018.

Cormeilles-en-Parisis (French pronunciation: [kɔʁmɛj ɑ̃ paʁizi] (listen), literally Cormeilles in Parisis) is a commune in the Val-d'Oise department in Île-de-France in Northern France. Inhabitants are called Cormeillais(e).

The International School of France, or Ermitage, is an international day and boarding school in Maisons-Laffitte, just outside Paris, France. The school, which was founded in 1941 by a woman seeking to improve conditions of students during World War II, offers an English bilingual education up to French Baccalaureate / International Baccalaureate (IB) level. This is a day school with 5- and 7-day boarding houses. Ermitage focuses on children with different backgrounds from all around the world, not just France. In 2009, the school began offering the IB Diploma Programme. In 2018 the school was also authorised to offer the IB Middle Years Programme. The school is headed by Benjamin Hunter. Enrollment was 1100 students in 2012. Student ages range from 21/2 (TPS) through 19 (Terminale, equivalent to Year 13 in Great Britain or grade 12 in the US).
