The Xiancantan (Chinese: 先蚕坛), known in English as Altar to the Goddess of Silkworms, is an imperial altar in Beijing, China, similar to the Imperial Ancestral Hall, Xiannongtan (Temple of Agriculture) and the Altar of Earth and Harvests. It is located at the eastern ground of the Beihai Park, a large imperial garden in the city's historical centre. It can be reached by a bridge from the Temple of the Dragon King (Longwangmiao). The Xiancantan (Altar to the Goddess of Silkworms) was built in 1742 during the Qianlong period (1736-1796) of Qing Dynasty. The Xiancantan was built for Leizu, the wife of the Yellow Emperor, who is credited with the invention of sericulture. Entering through the Gate of Admiration for Silkworms, one could see a 1.3-metre-high altar and a staircase on each side leads to the site where sacrificial rituals were performed.The site is also known for its Mulberry trees, which provides regular diet for silkworms. Behind the temple there are several halls dedicated to the Silkworms.

Beijing No. 4 High School (Chinese: 北京市第四中学; pinyin: Běijīng shì dìsì zhōngxué), commonly abbreviated as (Beijing) Sizhong (Chinese: 北京四中), and sometimes referred to as Beijing High School Four (BHSF), is a public beacon high school in Xicheng District, Beijing. It is one of the most prestigious high schools in China. It was established in 1907 as the Shuntian Secondary School, and was later renamed Capital Public No. 4 Secondary School. It took its current name in 1949. The school was among the first to be accredited as a "Municipal Model High School" by the Beijing Municipal Commission of Education. More than 96 percent of its graduates passed the enrollment line of key universities (Tier 1 schools) in National Higher Education Entrance Examination. In a 2016 ranking of Chinese high schools that send students to study in American universities, Beijing No. 4 High School ranked number one in mainland China in terms of the number of students entering top American universities, and number four internationally for high schools outside of the United States. James Palmer of Foreign Policy described it as "the rough equivalent of Eton". Many Chinese politicians and their children have attended Beijing No. 4.

Beihaibei (Chinese: 北海北站; pinyin: Běihǎi Běi Zhàn) is a station on Line 6 of the Beijing Subway. This station opened on December 30, 2012. It is named for the nearby Beihai Park.

Prince Gong's Mansion, also known as the Prince Kung Mansion, is a museum and tourist attraction located in Xicheng District, Beijing, just north of the Shichahai Lake. It consists of large siheyuan-style mansions and gardens. Originally constructed for Heshen, an official highly favoured by the Qianlong Emperor, it was later renamed after Prince Gong, a Manchu prince and influential statesman of the late Qing dynasty, who inhabited the mansion in the late 19th century.

The Guo Moruo Residence (郭沫若故居) is the former residence of Guo Moruo (1892–1978) in West Qianhai Street, Dongcheng District, Beijing, China.

Shichahai (simplified Chinese: 什刹海; traditional Chinese: 什剎海; pinyin: Shíchàhǎi) is a historic scenic area consisting of three lakes in the north of central Beijing. They are located directly northwest of the Forbidden City and north of the Beihai Lake. Shichahai consists of the following three lakes: Qianhai (前海), Xihai (西海) and Houhai (后海). In imperial times it was called the Riverbank (河沿; héyán).

The Huode Zhenjun Temple (火德真君庙), also known as the Fire God Temple, located near the Shichahai in central Beijing, is a prominent Taoist temple of the city. First built during the Ming Dynasty and then rebuilt in 1759 during the Qing Dynasty, the temple is known for one of its gate, which boasts its yellow colored glaze tiles that were granted by the Emperor.

Beihai Park (simplified Chinese: 北海公园; traditional Chinese: 北海公園) is a public park and former imperial garden located in the northwestern part of the Imperial City, Beijing. First built in the 11th century, it is among the largest of all Chinese gardens and contains numerous historically important structures, palaces, and temples. Since 1925, the place has been open to the public as a park. It is also connected at its northern end to the Shichahai. The park has an area of more than 69 hectares (171 acres), with a lake that covers more than half of the entire park. At the center of the park is an island called Jade Flower Island (瓊華島; 琼华岛; Qiónghuádǎo), whose highest point is 32 meters (105 ft). Beihai literally means "Northern Sea". There are also corresponding Central (Zhonghai) and Southern (Nanhai) "Seas" elsewhere. These latter two are joined inside a complex of buildings known after them as Zhongnanhai; it is the home of China's paramount leaders. The Beihai Park, as with many of Chinese imperial gardens, was built to imitate renowned scenic spots and architecture from various regions of China such as Lake Tai, the elaborate pavilions and canals of Hangzhou and Yangzhou, the delicate garden structures in Suzhou and others all served as inspirations for the design of the numerous sites in this imperial garden. The structures and scenes in the Beihai Park are described as masterpieces of gardening technique that reflects the style and the superb architectural skill and richness of traditional Chinese garden art.

Guanghua Temple (simplified Chinese: 广化寺; traditional Chinese: 廣化寺; pinyin: Guǎnghuā Sì) is a Buddhist temple located at 31 Ya'er Hutong, north of Shichahai in the Xicheng District of Beijing, China. Founded during the Yuan dynasty (1271–1368), it is one of Beijing's most renowned Buddhist temples.

Houhai (Chinese: 后海; pinyin: hòuhǎi; lit. 'Rear Lake') is a lake and its surrounding neighborhood in Xicheng District of central Beijing, China. Houhai is the largest of the three lakes, along with Qianhai 'Front Lake' and Xihai 'Western Lake', that comprise Shichahai, the collective name for the three northernmost lakes in central Beijing. Since the early 2000s, the hutong neighborhood around Houhai has become known for its nightlife as many residences along the lake shore have been converted into restaurants, bars, and cafes. The area is especially popular with foreign tourists visiting Beijing and is also often visited by the expatriate community and the younger generations of locals. The Former Residence of Soong Ching-ling and Prince Gong Mansion are both located in the Houhai neighborhood.

Ping'anli station (Chinese: 平安里站; pinyin: Píng'ānlǐ zhàn) is an interchange station on Line 4, Line 6 and Line 19 of Beijing Subway.

On August 9, 2008 in the People's Republic of China, two American tourists and their Chinese tour guide were stabbed at the historic Beijing Drum Tower; one of the tourists was killed. The assailant then committed suicide by jumping from the tower. The incident occurred during the 2008 Summer Olympics in Beijing. The incident has been described as isolated since attacks on foreigners while visiting China are rare.
