Wildland Firefighters National Monument

The National Interagency Fire Center (NIFC) in Boise, Idaho is the physical facility which is the home to the National Interagency Coordination Center (NICC), and the National Multi-Agency Coordination group (NMAC or MAC). The center works closely with, and is an arm of, the National Fire and Aviation Executive Board (NFAEB), which provides unified guidance for fire agencies in the U.S., and handbooks and guidelines to provide common procedures. It was created to implement the Federal Wildland Fire Management Act Policy. The NFAEB has created the Federal Fire Policy Directives Task Group, which coordinates with state agencies in order to implement cooperative agreements.The center's primary mission is the complex interagency co-ordination of wildland firefighting resources in the U.S. Although NIFC was initially founded to manage firefighting resources throughout the western states, the center is now designated as an "all-risk" co-ordination center, and as such provides support in response to other emergencies such as floods, hurricanes, and earthquakes for the United States at large; accordingly it also contributes to the national preparedness level.

The National Weather Service Boise, Idaho is a weather forecast office responsible for weather forecasts, warnings and local statements as well as aviation weather forecasts and fire weather forecasts for 3 counties in Southeast Oregon and 14 counties in Southwest and South central Idaho. The U.S. Weather Bureau established an office in the Sonna Building on December 1, 1898. Since then, the U.S Weather Bureau office, now known as the National Weather Service forecast office gained forecast responsibility of Southern Idaho on June 22, 1970 which was expanded to the entire state of Idaho in 1973. After modernization in 1993, the forecast responsibility was changed to Southeast Oregon and Southwest Idaho. The current office in Boise maintains a WSR-88D (NEXRAD) radar system, 8 Automated airport weather station (ASOS) systems and Advanced Weather Interactive Processing System (AWIPS) that greatly improve forecasting in the region. Continuous weather observations have been maintained for the city of Boise since February 1, 1864 about 5 months after the U.S. Army established Fort Boise. The post surgeon for the U.S. Army took observations until July 1, 1877 when the U.S. Signal Service, established an office downtown. The Signal Office was discontinued on July 1, 1890.

Boise Airport (IATA: BOI, ICAO: KBOI, FAA LID: BOI) (Boise Air Terminal or Gowen Field) is a joint civil-military airport in the western United States, three miles (5 km) south of downtown Boise in Ada County, Idaho. The airport is operated by the city of Boise Department of Aviation and is overseen by an airport commission. It is the busiest airport in the state of Idaho, serving more passengers than all other Idaho airports combined and roughly ten times as many passengers as Idaho's second busiest airport, Idaho Falls Regional Airport.Boise is a landing rights airfield requiring international general aviation flights to receive permission from a Customs and Border Protection officer before landing. In addition to being a commercial and general aviation airport, Boise also functions concurrently as a USAF military facility as used by the 124th Fighter Wing (124 FW) of the Idaho Air National Guard on the Gowen Field Air National Guard Base portion of the airport. The 124 FW operates the A-10 Thunderbolt II aircraft. The National Interagency Fire Center (NIFC) is based in the city of Boise and the Boise Airport is used for logistical support. The United States Forest Service (USFS) also uses Boise Airport as a base for aerial firefighting air tankers during the wildfire season.Boise Airport enplaned 2,059,935 passengers in 2019, an increase of 6% vs. 2018 when 1,938,416 passengers were enplaned (making it the 69th busiest airport in the country).

The Nathan Smith House in Boise, Idaho, is a 1+1⁄2-story Colonial Revival farmhouse designed by John E. Tourtellotte and constructed in 1900. The house features a veneer of cobblestones from the Boise River below shingled upper gables and hooded dimple windows, but its most prominent design element is a front facing basket arch balcony above the porch. The overall design is an early example of a Bungalow, and it influenced later designs in Boise. The house was added to the National Register of Historic Places in 1983.Originally 8-rooms, the interior featured indoor plumbing and "the patent hard-wall plaster now being tried." The Idaho Statesman described the walls as being as hard as adamant.Nathan Smith was a farmer in South Boise who owned an orchard of prune trees. After Smith's death in 1907, the house became the property of W.M. Stockton. By 1913 the house had become known as "Fairlawns."

The South Boise Fire Station, at 1011 Williams St. in Boise, Idaho, was built in 1914. It was designed by architects Tourtellotte & Hummel. It was listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 1982.It is a one-and-a-half-story brick bungalow style building, 68 by 36 feet (21 m × 11 m) in plan.It was designed in 1913 and was completed in 1914.

Garfield School in Boise, Idaho, is a 2-story, flat roof brick building designed by Tourtellotte & Hummel and constructed in 1929. The 1929 facade is symmetrical and shows a Tudor Revival influence, and shallow arch entries at north and south ends of the building are prominent features of the Broadway Avenue exposure. The brick cornice is inset with a diamond pattern. In 1949 the elementary school was expanded with north and south wings containing additional classrooms and an auditorium. The expansion is compatible with the original structure, and the building was listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 1982.

The Hopffgarten House in Boise, Idaho, is a 2+1⁄2 story Colonial Revival structure built around 1899 in the Queen Anne style and substantially modified by Wayland & Fennell in 1923. The house was listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 1979.

The Rosedale Odd Fellows Temple in Boise, Idaho, is a 2-story building with a prominent stepped gable. An early example in Boise of cast concrete block construction, the building was designed by Tourtellotte & Co., and it was completed in 1907. The Rosedale Odd Fellows Temple was added to the National Register of Historic Places in 1982.The International Order of Odd Fellows was an active fraternal organization in Idaho at the beginning of the 20th century. Boise already included lodge No. 3, organized in 1868, lodge No. 77, organized in 1900, and lodge No. 97, organized in 1902. The Rosedale lodge, No. 102, was organized in 1904 in South Boise, and it was described by the Idaho Statesman as "one of the best equipped fraternal buildings in Idaho."

The New York Canal in Ada County and Canyon County, Idaho, is a 41-mile irrigation canal originating at the Boise River Diversion Dam and ending at Lake Lowell. The canal system includes multiple lateral canals that distribute water to approximately 165,000 acres of farmland in the Boise Valley. The canal has a capacity of 2,400 cubic feet per second.

The Idaho Military History Museum, located at Gowen Field near Boise, Idaho, features exhibits relating to every branch of the service and each war in which Idahoans have served from the Spanish–American War onwards; the Farragut Naval Training Station (now Farragut State Park, Idaho's largest), Gowen Field itself, the Medal of Honor exhibit, and the well-traveled USS Boise (CL-47) are in particular of local provenance and interest.

The Mrs. A.F. Rossi House in Boise, Idaho, is a one-story cottage in the Colonial Revival style with "proto-bungaloid" elements. The house was designed by Tourtellotte & Co. and constructed in 1906. Its prominent feature is an outset, left front center porch. In 1982, the house was added to the National Register of Historic Places.Lola L. Lindsey and Alexander F. Rossi were married February 25, 1903, in Boise. Alexander Rossi was associated with W.H. Ridenbaugh in logging and lumber enterprises until 1908, and they owned the A.F. Rossi Company, a South Boise lumber mill. In 1905, sister and brother Adaline Bennett and Alex Rossi deeded property in South Boise to Lola Rossi, and on the lot a six-room cottage was constructed in 1906 according to plans drawn by Tourtellotte & Co. The Rossis may have occupied the house until 1926, when they moved to Idaho City and became proprietors of the Luna House hotel, named for original owner M.G. Luney. The hotel was identical in name to the Luna House in Lewiston, an early stagecoach stop in Idaho Territory.

The Joseph Chitwood House in Boise, Idaho, is a 2-story, vernacular Queen Anne house constructed by Joseph Chitwood in 1892. The house has been modified by a series of small expansions since its construction, and its original T-shape design is irregular. A prominent, beveled bay protrudes toward the Denver Street exposure, and a hip roof porch at left of the bay provides a sheltered entry. Front and side gables above the second floor are covered by a tent roof, with 1-story, hip roof additions toward the back of the house. The Chitwood House was added to the National Register of Historic Places in 2006.Joseph R. Chitwood built his house beginning in 1891, and a lien was placed on the property in that year for nonpayment of $83 in construction materials. Later, Chitwood and three of his brothers owned a profitable mine at Thunder Mountain. Chitwood died unexpectedly at the mine in August, 1905, at the age of 46. The property includes a 16 by 17 feet (4.9 m × 5.2 m) barn built in 1912, facing onto its service alley, which was extended slightly to be able to garage cars, and later stabilized by a poured foundation.
