Haytor

The River Lemon is a 9.9 miles (15.9 kilometres) river in the county of Devon in southwest England. It is a tributary of the River Teign, starting on Dartmoor by Haytor, and ending in Newton Abbot. It rises on the south-east side of Dartmoor near Haytor, joins with the River Sig and the Langworthy Brook at Sigford, then passes the village of Bickington. Lower down, it is joined by the Kestor Brook and it then flows through the woods in Bradley Valley, past the manor house of Bradley, and through the town of Newton Abbot where it flows through a 440-yard-long (400 m) tunnel below the town centre. Just below the town, the river joins the River Teign at 50.517°N 3.607°W / 50.517; -3.607, near the head of its estuary. A considerable length of the River is designated as a Special Area of Conservation - The South Hams SAC for the Greater Horseshoe Bat, as protected flight corridors (this area extends 500 m each side of the River). The name Lemon is a derivative of a Celtic word meaning elm.

The Haytor Granite Tramway (also called Heytor) was a tramway built to convey granite from Haytor Down, Dartmoor, Devon to the Stover Canal. It was very unusual in that the track was formed of granite sections, shaped to guide the wheels of horse-drawn wagons. It was built in 1820; the granite was in demand in the developing cities of England as masonry to construct public buildings and bridges. In 1850 the quarries employed about 100 men but by 1858 they had closed due to the availability of cheaper Cornish granite.The Haytor rocks and quarries are protected from development and disturbance as a Site of Special Scientific Interest.

Greator Rocks, Greater, or Grea Tor, is a dramatic granite tor on Dartmoor, England. It is a common climbing tor, like nearby Hound Tor. It is 371m above sea level.

Rippon Tor is a striking tor on eastern Dartmoor, in England, that stands at 473 metres (1,552 ft) above sea level. It has three cairns, of which are some of Dartmoor's largest, a triangulation pillar, and several rock piles that overlook the northern high moors near Fernworthy Forest and Great Mis Tor. Field boundaries surround the tor. The views extend down to North Hessary Tor around Princetown and Holne Ridge. On most days the River Teign is visible with the sea at Teignmouth. The clay pits in between Kingsteignton and Bovey Tracey are also usually visible. Most of the other eastern tors can be seen, such as popular Haytor and Saddle Tor. The logan stone known as the Nutcracker is nearby. The tor can be accessed from the Hemsworthy Gate Car Park by the B3387 from Widecombe-in-the-Moor to Bovey Tracey. Rippon Tor Rifle Range lies nearby on Horridge Common and the tor is close to the source of the River Ashburn, a tributary of the River Dart.

Hundatorra or Hundetorre is a deserted medieval village near Hound Tor on Dartmoor, Devon. The site has seen two periods of historic occupation, the first in the Bronze Age from around 1700 – 1200 BCE and deserted by 1000 BCE, and the reoccupation during the Medieval Warm Period until approximately the 14th century.

Ilsington is a village and civil parish situated on the eastern edge of Dartmoor, Devon, England. It is one of the largest parishes in the county, and includes the villages of Ilsington, Haytor Vale, Liverton and South Knighton. The parish is surrounded, clockwise from the north, by the parishes of Bovey Tracey, Teigngrace (a short border only), Newton Abbot, Ogwell (another short border), Bickington, Ashburton, Widecombe-in-the-Moor and Manaton. In 2001 the population of the parish was 2,444, greatly increased from the 886 residents recorded in 1901. The parish is represented in parliament by Mel Stride, as part of the Central Devon constituency.

Blackslade Mire is a Site of Special Scientific Interest (SSSI) within Dartmoor National Park, Devon, England. It is located near Pil Tor, 2km east of the village Widecombe in the moor. It is 800m from Emsworthy Mire. It is protected because of the wet heath and peatland habitats present.

Becky Falls, originally known as Becka Falls, is a tourist attraction in Dartmoor, England, centered on a waterfall of around 20 metres down a boulder-strewn bed. In addition to the waterfall as the centrepiece, there is a woodland park with features such as a children's zoo, woodland trail, and crafts.

Hound Tor is a tor on Dartmoor, Devon, England and is a good example of a heavily weathered granite outcrop. It is easily accessible, situated within a few minutes from the B3387 between Bovey Tracey and Widecombe-in-the-Moor. The site is administered by Dartmoor National Park Authority for English Heritage as it includes the ruins of a medieval village, alongside prehistoric works of stone construction nearby.

Rippon Tor Rifle Range is a disused rifle range from World War II on Dartmoor, Devon, England. The range is situated southeast of the 473 m high Rippon Tor, near the village Widecombe-in-the-Moor, and close to the road between Halshanger and Cold East Cross.

Pil Tor is a granite tor on the eastern edge of Dartmoor, England. It sits at a height of around 420 metres (1,380 ft).

Yarner Wood & Trendlebere Down in Dartmoor, Devon, England is a woodland managed by Natural England. The woodland is part of the East Dartmoor Woods and Heaths National Nature Reserve. The entire area is 777 acres (3.14 km2) while Yarner Wood is 365 acres (1.48 km2). Since 1985 the site has been designated a Site of Special Scientific Interest. Many types of tree grow in Yarner Wood including oak, birch, scots pine, larch and beech. It is home to buzzards, sparrow hawks, nightjars and pied flycatchers.From 1857 to 1862, a copper mine operated in Yarner Wood and extracted ore which gave over 2000 tonnes of copper.
