Gracefield is an industrial suburb of Lower Hutt City, located at the bottom of the North Island of New Zealand. Up until the 1980s, Gracefield and neighbouring Petone were home to woollen mills, railway workshops, car assembly and meat processing plants. But when protective tariffs were lifted in the mid-1980s, many of these industries ceased.The headquarters and principal laboratories of Callaghan Innovation are in Gracefield, in premises developed largely from the Physics and Engineering Laboratory of DSIR.

The Hutt Railway Workshops is a major railway engineering facility in the Lower Hutt suburb of Gracefield in the Wellington region of New Zealand's North Island. It is state-owned enterprise KiwiRail's only workshops, and was opened in 1930. This facility is the central motive power maintenance operation and also maintains rolling stock.

The Waiwhetū Stream is a small watercourse in Lower Hutt, in the North Island of New Zealand. The stream drains the eastern side of the Hutt Valley, and enters Wellington Harbour at the Hutt River estuary. Development and urbanisation of the Hutt Valley since the arrival of settlers led to increasing pollution and degradation of the stream environment. The stream was diverted into concrete culverts in some sections in an attempt to reduce flooding. Industrial development in the area around the lower reaches of the stream led to that section becoming an industrial sewer. Discharges of industrial waste into the lower reaches ceased in the 1980s when trade wastes were connected to piped sewer mains. However, the stream remained highly polluted with toxic sediments. In 2010, the stream was described as one of the most polluted waterways in New Zealand. Pressure from the community beginning around 2003 helped to trigger a major project to clean up the lower reaches. This project was declared complete in June 2010, after the removal of 56,000 tonnes of toxic waste. In 2010–2011, a community group was formed to lead restoration of the upper reaches of the stream. Over a period of 10 years, volunteers cleared invasive aquatic weeds and rubbish from six kilometres (3.7 mi) of the stream bed and established around 34,000 locally sourced native plants on the banks of the stream.

Moera, a suburb of the city of Lower Hutt in New Zealand, forms part of the urban area of greater Wellington.

Seaview is an industrial suburb of the city of Lower Hutt, itself a suburban area of greater Wellington. Situated on the eastern coast of the Hutt Valley, it curves between Te Awa Kairangi / the Hutt River and Petone (to the west), and the bays of Eastbourne to the south. Traditionally a very industrial suburb, an annex of the larger neighbouring Petone, Seaview has undergone rejuvenation as the local car-industry has died out. Known for boganesque motor-racing, sultry weather, its former car-industry and current revitalisation, the suburb has made a name for itself in Wellington in recent years.

The Cheese is a LPFM (Low Power FM) radio station which broadcasts from Lower Hutt, a region close to Wellington in New Zealand. The station broadcasts 24 hours a day. The Cheese is licensed with APRA and PPNZ in New Zealand for music broadcasting rights and operates under the NZ laws governing LPFM transmission.

Lower Hutt (Māori: Te Awa Kairangi ki Tai) is a city in the Wellington Region of New Zealand. Administered by the Hutt City Council, it is one of the four cities that constitute the Wellington metropolitan area. If considered a city it is New Zealand's sixth most populous, with a population of 114,000. The total area administered by the council is 376.4 km2 (145 sq mi) around the lower half of the Hutt Valley and along the eastern shores of Wellington Harbour, of which 78.53 km2 (30 sq mi) is urban. It is separated from the city of Wellington by the harbour, and from Upper Hutt by the Taita Gorge. Lower Hutt is unique among New Zealand cities, as the name of the council does not match the name of the city it governs. Special legislation has since 1991 given the council the name "Hutt City Council", while the name of the place itself remains "Lower Hutt City". This name has led to confusion, as Upper Hutt is administered by a separate city council, the Upper Hutt City Council. The entire Hutt Valley includes both Lower and Upper Hutt cities. Lower Hutt is also often simply called "the Hutt".

Waterloo is an eastern suburb of Lower Hutt, Wellington. It is named after the Battle of Waterloo won by the Duke of Wellington in 1815.The Hutt City Council formally defines Waterloo as the area bounded by Waterloo Road and Burnside Street in the north, the Hutt Valley railway line in the west, Guthrie Street in the south, and the Wainuiomata hills in the east.It is the home suburb to Waterloo Primary School and the Open Polytechnic of New Zealand. It is also home to Waterloo Interchange, a major train and bus station.

The Hutt River (Māori: Te Awa Kairangi, Te Wai o Orutu or Heretaunga; officially Te Awa Kairangi / Hutt River) flows through the southern North Island of New Zealand. It flows south-west from the southern Tararua Range for 56 kilometres (35 mi), forming a number of fertile floodplains, including Kaitoke, central Upper Hutt and Lower Hutt.The Hutt River Trail, a regional park administered by Wellington Regional Council, runs alongside the eastern side of the river.

Hutt Intermediate School (HIS) is a state intermediate school located in Lower Hutt, New Zealand. The school was founded in 1948, and currently has a total number of 685 students and a teaching staff of 45. The principal, until the end of 2006, was Neil Withington. He was the principal of Hutt Intermediate School for six years, and has left to take up a position at Victoria University of Wellington. Mike Gillatt has taken up the position since.
