Amboori is a panchayath in Kattakkada Taluk of Thiruvananthapuram district in the state of Kerala in India. It is situated 38 km south-east of capital city Trivandrum. As per the 2011 Census, Amboori village has a population of 15,920, of which 4464 are males and 4785 are females. The population of children aged 0–6 is 866, which makes up 9.36% of the total population of the village. The average sex ratio of Amboori village is 1072, lower than the Kerala state average of 1084. The child sex ratio for Amboori, as per the census, is 977, which is higher than the Kerala average of 964. Amboori village has a lower literacy rate than Kerala. In 2011, the literacy rate of Amboori village was 92.37% compared to 94.00% in Kerala. In Amboori male literacy stands at 94.34% while the female literacy rate was 90.54%. An important ethnic group in the area is the Kanikar tribe; about 1200 members of this tribe live in the area. Amboori is 40 km (25 mi) from the Agastiya mountain peak where Sage Agastiya, the founder of Ayurveda, is believed to have built his hermitage.

Neyyar dam is a gravity dam on the Neyyar River in Thiruvananthapuram district of Kerala, South India, located on the foot of the Western Ghats about 30 km from Thiruvananthapuram. It was established in 1958 and is a popular picnic spot.

Vikraman Nair, Kallikkad Gangan (Gangadharan) politburo member, Kunjiraman Nair etc. were the leaders. Kallikkad Ramachandran the famous filmmaker and writer was born in Kallikkad. K R Ajayan, the journalist and short story writer and Aji daivappura poet and lyricist are from this village. Sporting union the famous sports club which contributed many youngsters to the field is here. Adhyathma Chinthalaya Ashramam is at Neyyardam-Kallikkad. Sivanda Yoga Kendra in Neyyardam is the world-denoted spiritual place at Neyyardam in Kallikkad. The Neyyardam was built in the land given by a famous agriculturist and landlord Mr. Karuvachi Krishnan Panicker,(Father of Kallikkad Kesavan Panicker, Janaki Thankamma) Maruthummootil, Kallikkad and many of his family members from Kallikkad. Kallikad Grama Panchayat was formed in 1962 from parts of Ottasekharamangalam Panchayat. Some parts of Kallikkad Panchayat were later shifted to Amboori Panchayat.

The Neyyar Wildlife Sanctuary in the southern state of Kerala in India is spread over the southeast corner of the Western Ghats, and covers a total area of 128 km2 (49 sq mi). It is located between 77° 8’ to 77° 17’ east longitude and 8° 29’ to 8° 37’ north latitude, central location 8°33′N 77°12.5′E. Although it was declared as a sanctuary in 1958, not much was done about wildlife conservation, until 1985, when a separate wildlife wing was set up and as a result, conservation efforts have gathered momentum. It is part of the Agasthyamala Biosphere Reserve.

Kottur Elephant Sanctuary and Rehabilitation Centre located near Kappukadu in Thiruvananthapuram district of Kerala is an elephant sanctuary and rehabilitation centre. Started in 2006 as an elephant sanctuary, the Kerala government announced a project in 2019 to expand it as an elephant rehabilitation centre with international standards. When completed, it will become the largest rehabilitation centre for the elephants in the world. It is also the first rehabilitation centre for elephants in India, constructed at an estimated cost of ₹105 crores. The centre is spread across 176 hectares of forest and currently have 16 elephants, with a capacity to accommodate 50 elephants in future after completion.The first phase of the project was inaugurated in February 2021 by the Chief minister of Kerala, Pinarai Vijayan. After the full completion, it is expected that Kottur will become a major tourist destination in the district with more than 3.5 lakh people, including half a lakh tourists from overseas expected to visit it every year.

Dr. Somervell Memorial CSI Medical College (SMC, Dr SM CSI MCH, SMCSI) is a self financing Medical College located in Karakonam, a village in the Thiruvananthapuram District of the State of Kerala. The college is attached to the Dr. Somervell Memorial Mission Hospital. It was established in 2002 and the institution is affiliated to the University of Kerala, Kerala University of Health Sciences. The Karakonam hospital is recognized as the first private hospital in the state of Kerala established in the year 1975. The Hospital, the Medical College and all other institutions attached are run by the South Kerala Diocese of the Church of South India and managed by the South Kerala Medical Mission. The South Kerala Medical Mission is a Charitable Society registered under the Travancore Cochin Literary, Scientific and Charitable Societies Registration Act XII of 1955. The office of the South Kerala Medical Mission is in the LMS Compound, the Head Office of the CSI South Kerala Diocese Karakonam is 30 km South (by Kanyakumari Road) from Trivandrum Central railway station, abutting the Vellarada Road from Trivandrum as well as Parassala State Transport buses and private vehicles frequently ply on the road. Dhanuvachapuram Railway station on the railway line between Trivandrum Central and Nagercoil is only 3 km from the college.
