The 2014 U.S. Women's Open was the 69th U.S. Women's Open, held June 1922 at Pinehurst Resort Course No. 2 in Pinehurst, North Carolina. It marked the first time that the U.S. Women's Open was played on the same course in the same year as the U.S. Open. The U.S. Women's Open was played a week after the U.S. Open. First played in 1946, the U.S. Women's Open is the oldest of the five major championships and the second of the 2014 season. It has the largest purse in women's golf at $4.0 million, with a winner's share of $720,000. The tournament was televised for the final time by ESPN and NBC Sports. Michelle Wie won her first major title, two strokes ahead of runner-up Stacy Lewis. Stephanie Meadow was a stroke back in solo third in her debut event as a professional.

The 1999 United States Open Championship was the 99th U.S. Open, held June 17–20 at Pinehurst Resort Course No. 2 in Pinehurst, North Carolina. Payne Stewart won his second U.S. Open and third major championship, one stroke ahead of runner-up Phil Mickelson. After a birdie at the penultimate hole to regain an outright lead, Stewart sank a 15-foot (5 m) par putt on the final hole for 279 (−1) and avoided a Monday playoff. He redeemed himself at the U.S. Open, after losing a four-stroke 54-hole lead the year before in San Francisco. Stewart did not get a chance to defend his title in 2000, as he died four months later in a plane crash. The U.S. Open was his eleventh and final PGA Tour win. Major winners Tiger Woods and Vijay Singh were in contention late in their final rounds, but each bogeyed and finished two strokes back, tied for third. This was the first U.S. Open at Pinehurst, which returned in 2005 and 2014. Previously, it hosted the PGA Championship in 1936, the Ryder Cup in 1951, and the North and South Open from 1902 through 1951. More recently, it was the site of season-ending Tour Championship in 1991 and 1992.

The 1980 Eisenhower Trophy took place October 8 to 11 on the No. 2 course at the Pinehurst Country Club in Pinehurst, North Carolina. It was the 12th World Amateur Team Championship for the Eisenhower Trophy and the second time the event had been held in the United States, after the 1960 event. The tournament was a 72-hole stroke play team event with 39 four-man teams. The best three scores for each round counted towards the team total. United States won the Eisenhower Trophy for the eighth time, finishing 27 strokes ahead of the silver medalists, South Africa. Chinese Taipei took the bronze medal, nine strokes further behind, while Japan finished fourth. Hal Sutton had the lowest individual score, 12-under-par 276, six strokes better than any other player.

The 9th Ryder Cup Matches were held November 2–4, 1951 at Course No. 2 of the Pinehurst Resort in Pinehurst, North Carolina. The United States team won their fifth consecutive competition by a score of 91⁄2 to 21⁄2 points.The two-day competition was held on Friday and Sunday; Saturday was an off day so that the participants (and spectators) could attend a college football game in Chapel Hill, about 70 miles (110 km) northeast. North Carolina hosted top-ranked Tennessee and the visiting Volunteers won in a rout, 27-0. Course No. 2, designed by Donald Ross, was set at 7,007 yards (6,407 m) for this Ryder Cup. It later hosted the U.S. Open in 1999, 2005, and 2014.

The 1936 PGA Championship was the 19th PGA Championship, held November 16–22 at Pinehurst Resort in Pinehurst, North Carolina. Then a match play championship, Denny Shute won the first of his consecutive PGA Championships, defeating Jimmy Thomson 3 & 2 on the No. 2 Course.It was Shute's second major title; his first was at the British Open in 1933 at St. Andrews. He previously made the finals at the PGA Championship in 1931. Fay Coleman was the medalist in the stroke play qualifier at 143 (−1). Five-time champion Walter Hagen and two-time winner Leo Diegel both shot 157 (+13), one stroke out of the playoff. Defending champion Johnny Revolta lost in the second round to Harold "Jug" McSpaden in 19 holes. Shute repeated as champion less than seven months later in May 1937. He was the last to successfully defend his title at the PGA Championship until Tiger Woods won consecutive titles twice, in 1999–2000 and 2006–2007. This was the first major played at Pinehurst and Course No. 2, which had sand greens until 1935. While the PGA Championship has yet to return, the U.S. Open was held at the course in 1999, 2005, and 2014. It hosted the Ryder Cup in 1951 and the U.S. Women's Open was also here in 2014.

The 2005 United States Open Championship was the 105th U.S. Open, held June 16–19 at Pinehurst Resort Course No. 2 in Pinehurst, North Carolina. Michael Campbell won his only major title, two strokes ahead of runner-up Tiger Woods; third-round leader and two-time U.S. Open champion Retief Goosen collapsed on the final day. It was the second of three U.S. Opens at the course, which first hosted in 1999, when Payne Stewart won his second U.S. Open four months before his death in an aviation accident. Six years was the shortest gap between U.S. Opens at the same site since 1946. The total purse was $6.25 million with a winner's share of $1.17 million.

Pinehurst Resort is a golf resort in Pinehurst, North Carolina, United States. It has hosted a number of prestigious golf tournaments including three U.S. Open Championships, one U.S. Women's Open, three U.S. Amateur Championships, one PGA Championship, and the Ryder Cup. Pinehurst consists of nine 18-hole golf courses, each named simply by a number, and a 9-hole short course. Pinehurst No. 2 has consistently been ranked as one of the top courses in North Carolina and among the best in the United States. In addition to the golf courses, Pinehurst has three hotels, as well as many villas, condos, restaurants, and other leisure facilities. Pinehurst Resort was inducted into Historic Hotels of America, the official program of the National Trust for Historic Preservation, since 1991.

The 2024 United States Open Championship was the 124th U.S. Open, the national open golf championship of the United States. It was a 72-hole stroke play tournament played from June 13–16 on course number 2 of Pinehurst Resort in Pinehurst, North Carolina. It is the 1,000th USGA staged championship in the organization's history. Bryson DeChambeau won the tournament to claim his second U.S. Open title.

Pinehurst is a village in Moore County, North Carolina, United States. As of the 2020 census, the village population was 17,581. It is home of the historic Pinehurst Resort, a Golf resort, which has hosted multiple United States Open Championships in the sport. The village lies adjacent to the Pine Needles Lodge and Golf Club, which has hosted multiple U.S. Open tournaments in Women's Golf. A large portion of the central village, including the resort complexes, is a National Historic Landmark District, designated in 1996 for its landscape design (by Frederick Law Olmsted) and its significance in the history of golf in the United States. Pinehurst has been designated as the "Home of American Golf" by the United States Golf Association, which announced a second headquarters in the village in 2020. The area is also known for its strong equestrian community, has hosted the former Stoneybrook Steeplechase, and currently maintains the Pinehurst Harness Track. Fox hunting is also a common sport in the area. Despite the village's relatively small size, the resort will host the men's U.S. Open five times in the next three decades: Pinehurst No. 2 will host the Men's U.S. Open in 2024, 2029, 2035, 2041 and 2047.In addition to the Pinehurst Resort, the village is home to The Country Club of North Carolina. In the immediate area surrounding Pinehurst, there are more than 40 other golf courses. The World Golf Hall of Fame, currently located in St. Augustine, Florida, will be relocating its physical presence to Pinehurst in 2024.

Mystic Cottage is a historic U.S. home located at 105 Magnolia Road, Pinehurst, North Carolina. It was the first home of the Leonard Tufts family in Pinehurst. Tufts took over from father James Walker Tufts and was followed by son Richard Tufts, in running the Pinehurst Resort.The cottage was described in 1900 as elaborate, with 14 rooms and all the modern improvements. The three-story building has a wrap around porch. The porch was extended to the second story later. It is now used for commercial purposes. The cottage is part of the Pinehurst Historic District, added to the National Register of Historic Places in 1973. The district became a National Historic Landmark District in 1996.

Pinehurst Race Track is a historic horse racing track and national historic district located at Pinehurst in Moore County, North Carolina, USA. The district encompasses 10 contributing buildings, 8 contributing sites, and 1 contributing structure on a complex of barns, stables and other horse-related buildings and paddocks arranged around two oval-shaped race tracks. The oval-shaped race tracks are believed to have been laid out by 1915 as part of the Pinehurst Race Track established by Leonard Tufts. The Amphidrome is a large agricultural exhibition hall built about 1917. It is a 2 1/2-story, gable-roofed building with stuccoed exterior walls and massive timber roof trusses in the Mission Revival style. Other contributing resources include six paddocks (c. 1916-1920), six barns (c. 1910), harness shop (1930), farrier shop (c. 1910), clubhouse (c. 1916), the network of lanes and driveways (c. 1910), and fences (c. 1910). Pinehurst Race Track is the site of the oldest surviving early-20th century fair exhibition hall in the state.It was added to the National Register of Historic Places in 1992.

Lloyd–Howe House, also known as "Anchors Aweigh" and Clarendon Gardens and Howe House, is a historic home located near Pinehurst, Moore County, North Carolina, United States. It was built in 1929, and consists of a 1+1⁄2-story main block with a gable roof and one-story wings in an irregular configuration. Its style is a variation of the New England Cape Cod and contains 16 rooms over 5,778 square feet. It is sheathed in stained Georgia cypress weatherboards and has chimneys, flues and two terraces built of local bluish-brown Carthage stone.In 1946, Robert Sturtevant developed landscaping for thirty acres lying southeast of the main house, an area then called Clarendon Gardens.It was added to the National Register of Historic Places in 1983.
